It was a daring move to follow those weak comm signals out this far into space, but you lucked out. You have found SpaceSimCentral, a station that has been tucked away for some time at the edges of our galaxy where only the brave and adventurous travelers dare to go to seek fame and fortune. SpaceSimCentral is one of the last stops before you set off on new adventures in the vastness of deep space. We do get many travelers that tell great tales of merchandise and even things you can get for free if you know where to look. So, finish docking your ship and check-in your valuables and spend some time chatting with the locals on the station and maybe you will discover something you have been waiting a whole lifetime to find.

Enough of the intro, I'm DarkOne the Admin of SpaceSimCentral and we have been around a few years and are striving to become a great source of news, lore and a file repository for your favorite and upcoming space/scifi gaming titles. I have always tried very hard to make SSC a community where both developers and gamers can discuss what they want to see in games and developers can show off what they are working on and get honest feedback from gamers first hand. To all of the developers out there, SSC has always been very accommodating to developers in that we give them free forum space here on SSC to discuss their games with the public. There are quite a few projects going on here at SSC so you might as well join in on the fun as well.

So have fun exploring SSC, the site is going through some major changes and will probably continue to change for the coming months. But this is for the good and I look forward to peoples opinions on what they think and with any luck I can get some members to write up some articles and blogs about their favorite games so I don't have to do all the work. So checkout what SSC has to offer and do register and let us know of any new games or help us out with locating old mods/patches. Enjoy the community and see you in the forums.

Game crashes (solution)

I have played the game and reached my first visit to the planet Yarent. From then on, I was getting series & series of game crashes like those:

The cause was:

When running the game, Precursors will write cache files into User\Documents\Precursors\CACHE

These files are updated as soon as you quit the game and may corrupt with new saves after re-installation or moving new content in the SAVE folder.

 

The solution:

If for whatever reason you want to backup your save files, be sure to backup the WHOLE Precursors folder in Documents, and not only the SAVE folder.

If you encounter game crashes like above and you cannot play further after loading a Quicksave or normal Save, do the following:

 

- Load your corrupt Quiicksave or normal Save

- Quick save the game immediately before it crashes with F9

- Quit Precursors

- Delete all the files in the CACHE folder

 

After that, load your newly saved game and there should be no crashes anymore.

My name is Gustav Beije and I must say Paragon really looks like a lovely project and i have been following it with high interest the last couple of weeks. I love pioneer but can't stand the incoherent art style and Paragon seems to fix that. 

I would love to join the development team on this project because it exactly the kind of game i would like to help making.

I am a 3d artist so I threw together a ship yesterday so you can see my style. If like it I would love to join and then I could spend more serious time on my ships to make them look better.

Paragon early mining tests

Left my two mining drones in a 400m altiude above demois, and they had a simple directive.

 

1. Drop to surface, start mining.

2. When cargo is full, go to low orbit, dump cargo.

3. Deorbit

4. Start mining

5. Repeat

 

Used water for ore in this test, deploying 2 drones :

Hmm, I got no cargoscoop  :)

 

 

And a little problem, my "ore" deorbits crashing into the moon, and bounces off into space..

OSX Builds are back!

Hey Guys,

 

OSX binary builds are now back!  :nyam:

 

In the past I was manually creating an app bundle, which made it all pretty, but was very brittle (as it relied on a custom XCode project that broke when new files were added to the project)

 

Since the goal is to now automated the binary build process, I've had remove the XCode dependancy and build with autotools (i.e. ./configure && make).

 

As a result, the package is a little different than previous binaries. I've done away with an app bundle (just for the moment) and just have a simple folder structure. Simply extract the archive and run the pioneer script at the base of the package.

 

If any OSX users could do some testing to make sure I've captured all the dependancies and some feedback on this new setup then that would be great! (I've tested on 10.7.x and 10.8.x - 10.6.x has NOT been tested )

Installing correctly the English Release 1.0

Hello Precursors fans,

 

There has been some confusion about how to correctly install the English release of the game which, without taking the steps below,  may show grafical issues for players using an ATI grafic card, sound lacking and considerable drops in framerate. Also the initial release is plenty of gameplay bugs which almost all have been solved by Wesp5 with his latest Unofficial Patch 1.7 (containing all his previous patches).

 

I've made an extensive stress test, starting with the ENGLISH RELEASE 1.0 of the game that is provided by Gamersgate or other providers and after making all the changes below. The following shoud give the best and most enjoyable results.

 

The exact install steps are:

 

- Install English Release (Gamergate, etc) which HAS to be modified as below, or some missions will be broken and there will be sound, grafics and other issues;

 

- Patch to the Official Russian 1.1 patch ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE RUSSIAN DVD VERSION. Do NOT use this patch with the English Release 1.0 !

The install menu is all in Russian, but don't mind, just go through the install of the patch; chose the game install directory and you will find a cyrillic folder in the game dir after install; copy all the files into the main dir and delete the cyrillic folder afterwards.

-  Because the 1.1 patch has a special copy protection not included with the releases of Gamergate etc, you will have to fix the game with this download (follow the instructions inside):

-  Now, apply Wesp5 's newest Patch (which contains all previous patches and LOTS of improvements, especially English translations and issue fixing; read the changelog and docs)

- You must now add the Russian Sound Files (unless you start with a russian version of course); don't skip this, because otherwise all sound effects (weapon sounds, speeches, environment sounds) will vanish at some point; the download is huge (1,4 GB) but necessary.

- If you have applied the Russian 1.1 patch before, you will have to fix the copy protection as explained in the TRIVIUM package (see step above).

 

- The "Film Grain Fix" is already contained in Wesp5 's Unofficial Patch 1.7 (see step above, and thus must not be installed).

 

Results and in-game settings:

 

After these steps, there should be no more sound or grafical issues whatsoever: The mission dialogs will be in Russian, but with English translations (subtitles). All Cutscenes will instead be in English (installed from Wesp5's patch).

Be sure to shut down your anti-virus before launching the game, and be sure to go offline before!

 

In-game settings (in the game's menu):

After all these steps above, the Sound is set to "Headphones" which you probably should change to "Stereo" or "Surround". Try out the best setting for you.

The grafic setting is set to "High" which should be fine with most today's computer systems (2013). If you have a high-end system, feel free to change it to the last "Very High".

 

Tip:

To better control your vehicles (buggy, etc.), change the A and D key to the secondary keys Left_Arrow, Right_Arow.

Compile Pioneer, Windows 8, Visual Studio 2012

Hi all, I've done a bit of searching in this forum with no success...please forgive me if this question has been answered elsewhere.

I've got a Windows 8 box with a fresh install of Visual Studio 2012. Following the compile Pioneer instructions, I'm getting an error.

I've downloaded the pioneer and pioneer-thirdparty git repositories (both repositories are in sibling folders), and opened the pioneer\win32\vs2012\pioneer.sln project in Visual Studio, then hit F7 to build.

So...doing a bit of googling to find out how to include the GL folder, I think I've determined that there's actually a problem with the pioneer.sln file itself.

If I look at the Solution Explorer at the pioneer node, there's an error message:
pioneer (load failed)
The project requires user input. Reload the project for more information.

However, when I reload the project, I get the same error.

Any suggestions from the hive mind?
