It was a daring move to follow those weak comm signals out this far into space, but you lucked out. You have found SpaceSimCentral, a station that has been tucked away for some time at the edges of our galaxy where only the brave and adventurous travelers dare to go to seek fame and fortune. SpaceSimCentral is one of the last stops before you set off on new adventures in the vastness of deep space. We do get many travelers that tell great tales of merchandise and even things you can get for free if you know where to look. So, finish docking your ship and check-in your valuables and spend some time chatting with the locals on the station and maybe you will discover something you have been waiting a whole lifetime to find.

Enough of the intro, I'm DarkOne the Admin of SpaceSimCentral and we have been around a few years and are striving to become a great source of news, lore and a file repository for your favorite and upcoming space/scifi gaming titles. I have always tried very hard to make SSC a community where both developers and gamers can discuss what they want to see in games and developers can show off what they are working on and get honest feedback from gamers first hand. To all of the developers out there, SSC has always been very accommodating to developers in that we give them free forum space here on SSC to discuss their games with the public. There are quite a few projects going on here at SSC so you might as well join in on the fun as well.

So have fun exploring SSC, the site is going through some major changes and will probably continue to change for the coming months. But this is for the good and I look forward to peoples opinions on what they think and with any luck I can get some members to write up some articles and blogs about their favorite games so I don't have to do all the work. So checkout what SSC has to offer and do register and let us know of any new games or help us out with locating old mods/patches. Enjoy the community and see you in the forums.

Endless Space 2

Didn't see a post about this on the front page yet, so I thought I'd add one.





By anecdote, I find Endless Space (the first one) to be the single most divisive 4X game ever made.  Many people seem to love it, many people seem to passionately hate it.  Ironically, Endless Legend, which is quite similar in many key ways, is almost universally acclaimed.  


I, personally, am damn excited.  To me 4X is not a genre that anybody ever gets completely right, and I have some pretty big and specific mechanics-related complaints about both the first Endless Space and Endless Legend.  Since I can say that about every 4X game I can think of, I don't mind also saying that I thought both of those games were damn good.  I'd say, and I think many would agree, that Endless Legend was one of the most unique and creative games of any strategy genre in recent years.  I can't wait to see what parts of it they incorporate into ES2.


My main hope right now is that they will GET RID OF THE DAMN STARLANES AND LET ME PUT SHIT IN DEEP SPACE OR FLY IN STRAIGHT LINES.  (That was my biggest complaint about ES1, granted some significant changes will have to accompany such a major modification of core game mechanics.)


I know a lot of people are pretty fixated on having a full blown tactical combat.  I personally find it to be too big of a digression and an annoyance more often than not, so I can do without it, and I think that even if it's included that it's absolutely necessary to have some satisfying way of abbreviating it, without sacrificing all tactical choice.  I don't really think anybody has gotten this right to date.  I will join the majority opinion and say that I didn't like the combat system in ES1, but I will also be very controversial and say that I think something similar could potentially work quite well.

Lost my mods - need help with links!

Hi, unfortunately I've initiated a formating on a disc, don't know exactly how, and pufff....All my Freelancer stuff is lost together with some other game patches, mods and notes. The disk is corrupt and won't read anymore.

Will have to make a hard disk scan on my older laptop to maybe retrieve some files but I better go play lottery...

All I have left is a Editor note in german. A sort of mod manager espcially for FL (don't recall the exact name) and necessary for some mods to run is also gone.

FL Data Storm, I don't recall for what it is ? luckily I found the FLD20DSetup.exe 3.629 kb. Is this the installer?. == I think this one is needed for some mods.

Looks pretty standard from the video and not much different to what we have seen 50 times before although it may have one thing going for it if it turns out to be more a sandbox shooter than a level one.

What if... Pioneer in Space Engine

Good day to you all,


What if the Pioneer open source game was made in Space Engine...?


Just a brianfart and would like to know what others would think about it.


Basically: the universe + graphics are already in Space Engine; the basic gameplay is already in Pioneer.


Personally I would really like to see this hybrid happen because:


1) Spaceships are controlled via Newtonian physics (except the unproven 'hyperdrive')


2) Spaceships are quite realistic in design


3) Spaceships can be controlled through commands and manual control


4) Space Engine graphics are gorgeous (!) (I'm actually freaked out by travelling to close to a star/black hole (good thing))



A lot of options are possible but this hybrid (and maybe even more) are possible before I die of old age! Exploration would actuallty mean exploring the surface. Land on the surface to take a sample and scan it.


Oculus Rift/HTC Vive + this kind of spacegame = instant buy (= real life lost :P)


Let me hear your opinions/ideas/brainstorms/fantasies because who knows what'll happen....

of Terrain in the Void and Status Effects

There's a new post up over on the blog discussing status effects and just how exactly we intend to form the maps in Shallow Space. Obviously we all know space is an unforgiving void but it makes for a very boring play area if we leave it as such, so we'll need to create areas for the Players and AI to hide and take advantage of.

But how will these areas affect the ships and combat? How can we shape the void into a meaningful area of operations? Find out in the latest article 'of Terrain in the Void and Status Effects...'


An extract from the latest post:

"To further complicate the mechanic different classes of ship will be affected differently by terrain. So a wing of Corvettes might traverse the expanse of a dense asteroid cluster far quicker than a Flotilla lead by a capital ship which has a severe penalty to movement to avoid damage. The player will be able to see the effects of a piece of terrain by hovering over the the representing icon in the macromap after they have scanned it."


Also, work has been progressing on the Ship Configuration screen. It's exciting to be able to expose more of those variables we've been relentlessly preening in the background and we're further excited by the fact that this forms another solid section of the spine of the game (and it's great fun slapping modules on those hulls!)

We are officially announcing our new game and would like to have your opinion ! 
It's a multiplayer space simulator featuring accurate space physics including General relativity and orbit simulation with real-life gravity maths. 
The concept is an open-world full-scale Galaxy where you can walk on planets, survive in a hostile environment, find resources, build a spaceship and fly to another planet seamlessly, no loading screen !

Star Elite - multiplayer space sim

Star elite is my new project which is in very very early open beta now. It is compleatly free, so you can download it every moment from it's webside.I have only few major systems three ships and it is just not tested. Main problem is I do not know if server connection system works so first testers may encounter major probems.

Game is sandbox space simulator working on multiplayer server. It is created to be something similar to X series or EVE online (but much less complicated for now). Players may fly starships, built space stations, explore galaxy with over 10 000 sectors (it is realy huge :derisive: ). I hope you will enjoy the game.

NOTE: Because I can't have server online all the time if you want to play just ask for server activation from game interface. It should get online in few minutes. An important message: I am in time zone GMT + 02:00, and I need sleep :).

UNION Spaceship Command

Hey all,


A long while back I was posting here about my game UNION Cooperative Spaceship Simulator. Unfortunately I ended up having to put that project on hold, mostly due to family and work commitments.


Then, just over two months back, I completely restarted the project again as UNION Spaceship Command. Not only had I more free time to work on the game and a team to help with it, but my programming skills have also come a long way since starting the original UNION project.


Although we rebuilt the project the ground up, it was not a complete reset. I've been able to use assets and some of the code from the original project. The new code though is a lot more flexible and it has allowed me to progress at an accelerated rate. 



UNION Spaceship Command is a spaceship bridge simulator, inspired by Artemis but with the goal of creating a deeper, richer, experience.

I'm enjoying getting back into the game and some great new additions to the latest beta v0.2.7b.


Especially like the UI for the colonists, lots of potential to balance the training, health and happiness and was the depth I was looking for past base construction.


I'm noticing that my funds are dropping like a stone so I quickly need to figure out how to balance those finances, perhaps I was too generous with healthcare and medical provisions - no wonder all my colonists are super happy and healthy!


Is it my imagination or did the factories in old beta used to generate fuel, can't seem to find a construction that gives a healthy startup of fuel in this version, which I presume is required for the repair yard ships - I'll keep on looking.   Not many low level building's that provide steady income either, science facility brings some money in however costs more to pay the wages of the staff to run it.


Despite a few bugs and crash's does appear to be the most stable version thus far imo.  Keep up the good work and loving the new lighting flares (see attached screenshot).
