Welcome to SpaceSimCentral.com

It was a daring move to follow those weak comm signals out this far into space, but you lucked out. You have found SpaceSimCentral, a station that has been tucked away for some time at the edges of our galaxy where only the brave and adventurous travelers dare to go to seek fame and fortune. SpaceSimCentral is one of the last stops before you set off on new adventures in the vastness of deep space. We do get many travelers that tell great tales of merchandise and even things you can get for free if you know where to look. So, finish docking your ship and check-in your valuables and spend some time chatting with the locals on the station and maybe you will discover something you have been waiting a whole lifetime to find.

Enough of the intro, I'm DarkOne the Admin of SpaceSimCentral and we have been around a few years and are striving to become a great source of news, lore and a file repository for your favorite and upcoming space/scifi gaming titles. I have always tried very hard to make SSC a community where both developers and gamers can discuss what they want to see in games and developers can show off what they are working on and get honest feedback from gamers first hand. To all of the developers out there, SSC has always been very accommodating to developers in that we give them free forum space here on SSC to discuss their games with the public. There are quite a few projects going on here at SSC so you might as well join in on the fun as well.

So have fun exploring SSC, the site is going through some major changes and will probably continue to change for the coming months. But this is for the good and I look forward to peoples opinions on what they think and with any luck I can get some members to write up some articles and blogs about their favorite games so I don't have to do all the work. So checkout what SSC has to offer and do register and let us know of any new games or help us out with locating old mods/patches. Enjoy the community and see you in the forums.

Game Analytics

21 Oct 2014

Posted by fluffyfreak In: Pioneer
Recently, as in the last 3 years, I've been thinking about who plays our game, what specifications their machine has, what OS, how long they play, where/when they die ad-infinitum...
So I've started to integrate an example using their REST API for the GameAnalytics.com service.
Obviously this will need several things:

  • discussion - is this something we want to do?
  • agreement - user must agree and be able to opt-out / opt-in as they choose.
  • anonymity - I don't actually care who is playing the game, just how many, how and on what etc.
  • Linux & Mac ports - I'm only writing the Windows version right now - help would be appreciated when the code is more final.
  • More developer control over the GA account so I'm not a single point of failure & so others can mine the data.

The reason I want to know all this stuff is because currently I'm doing things like the OpenGL 3.x work and later on the BGFX port without knowing how many users it will impact.
We don't even know how many people actually play Pioneer! Or in what countries, or what languages!
Recently there was the post by K-Hideyoshi where it turns out that we might have hundreds of Chinese players... did anyone know we had hundreds of people IN TOTAL playing Pioneer? I had no clue.
So what do people think?
What concerns would people have?
Is it a good idea?

Stardust Colonies - a uniquely AI-driven sci-fi RTS

18 Oct 2014

Posted by Elendurwen In: PC and Console Gaming
Stardust Colonies is an AI-focused hybrid between RTS and an emotion management game. It’s sci-fi and will have a great story full of dark suprises and hard moral choices.
In the game, you take on a role of a Colonizator, and a member of a high-tech alien species that defeats and colonises other planets. Each of your minions has its own happiness and energy level that affect how it performs. Happiness of a minion is determined by whether it likes the task it’s doing (mining, farming, breeding) and by its other personal experiences. You also need to keep an eye on the energy of your minions and let them rest from time to time so they return to work fresh.
In later versions of the game, there will be hostile alien creatures and RPG-like tech tree
Help the game get original 3D graphics and a dark atmosphere on Kickstarter
(Free demo included on the page)

Camera / damage system

16 Oct 2014

Posted by NeighborKid In: Shallow Space

So I found this game while I was bored on the net, and I have to say I'm really interested! It looks awesome!  I've already had one of my questions answered(mod tools). I was also wondering would there be a chance that we might be able to see a setting to set the game into a "movie" or "cinematic"  mode like in star wars Empire at war?   I know it's kinda an extra thing, but with how your game looks now(beautiful) It would be rather awesome to kick back and watch a battle unfold listening to music etc..   Example ->

secondly.. Will there be any form of module damage system?  Such as main weapons destroyed, Bridge smashed, Engines damaged/ Destroyed, Shield generator destroyed.. etc?

So... Space Engineers The Game

16 Oct 2014

Yes, I bought it, downloaded it and played it for like 2 hours last night. It's available on Steam for 20 bucks.

The graphics are not horrible, and actually look pretty good. It has crumple physics, so when you wreck into things they will crumple up or get destroyed. The Gravity needs some work. If you turn your jet pack off, you'll fall down? up? - You fall - in space.

It's pretty much Minecraft in space with better graphics and it doesn't require Java.

scanning planet missions in 'Scout Plus'?

16 Oct 2014

Posted by SonOfKong In: Pioneer Mods

Hi All. As I really got a buzz out of 'Frontier Elite', Pioneer has re-kindled that love. I'm playing 'Pioneer scout plus' at the moment but I'm in danger of getting frustrated with it. It's all to do with taking missions that have you scanning a planet. I choose the mission, fly to the planet, tell the computer to go into a (low orbit) then wait...... 10 minutes later I get a message saying I'm too far away and have to start all over again...... another ten minutes.... you can see why I'm frustrated. Can some one PLEASE put me strait on what I'm doing wrong.????

or please point me to a description of the right way to do this mission? Ta very much.

Anyone here heard of and/or play Spacestation 13?

14 Oct 2014

As the title says, Does or has anyone heard of and/or play SS13?

For those of you who dont know, SS13 is a space 'simulation' game where everyone is given a role on the station, from a janitor, to the captain, or even the ships AI, And carry about their daily chores.

Little do they know, That someone on the station is a murderous traitor from a rival corporation, set out to murder, steal, and destroy the station.

Its tons of fun, and plays similar to "Trouble in Terrorist Town" On gmod, but there are MANY other game modes, ranging fro that, to seeing how long you can survive in a meteor storm, to fighting a goddamned zombie horde! For the most part, however, it is primarily PvP based, And loads of fun and chaos.

Alien: Isolation

08 Oct 2014

Posted by Overlord In: PC and Console Gaming

Well the day finally came to see if another game could meet the expectations of multiple generations of Alien fans.

So far Steam claims I've logged 14 hours in the game, but in reality its much less. I chose the hardest difficulty setting for my first playthrough and I've been taking it very slowly, searching everywhere and really soaking up the atmosphere.

I love it. The ambience is like no other game I've played. When I finally came across the allien, I actually froze, cowering under a desk I didn't know what to do. I watched it slowly walk about for over a minute without moving from under my "safe" desk.

This game seems to divide people. Many seem to be criticising it for things like "being too slow", "frustrating" or "the AI is too unpredictable". Really? When people use unpredictable AI as a reason to criticise a game, then something is seriously wrong with the way they experience a game.

For me a game isn't about finishing. Its not about achievements. Its not about kill death ratios. Its an experience. A way of creating an environment that you cant get in the real world, and it does it brilliantly.

Alien: Isolation seems to have avoided falling into the same trap as many others, but the result puts a lot of players out of their comfort zone.

If you rush through this game, you will miss a lot. Not only items within the game world, but you will miss the point of the game itself. Trying to "beat" each encounter with the alien using a Super Meatboy mentality detaches you from feeling involved in the world and will of course result in frustration from being repeatedly killed. And it doesn't let you off. If you don't stop and use your brain and learn to out-smart it, you get destroyed every time.

Its perfect.
