Welcome to SpaceSimCentral.com
It was a daring move to follow those weak comm signals out this far into space, but you lucked out. You have found SpaceSimCentral, a station that has been tucked away for some time at the edges of our galaxy where only the brave and adventurous travelers dare to go to seek fame and fortune. SpaceSimCentral is one of the last stops before you set off on new adventures in the vastness of deep space. We do get many travelers that tell great tales of merchandise and even things you can get for free if you know where to look. So, finish docking your ship and check-in your valuables and spend some time chatting with the locals on the station and maybe you will discover something you have been waiting a whole lifetime to find.
Enough of the intro, I'm DarkOne the Admin of SpaceSimCentral and we have been around a few years and are striving to become a great source of news, lore and a file repository for your favorite and upcoming space/scifi gaming titles. I have always tried very hard to make SSC a community where both developers and gamers can discuss what they want to see in games and developers can show off what they are working on and get honest feedback from gamers first hand. To all of the developers out there, SSC has always been very accommodating to developers in that we give them free forum space here on SSC to discuss their games with the public. There are quite a few projects going on here at SSC so you might as well join in on the fun as well.
So have fun exploring SSC, the site is going through some major changes and will probably continue to change for the coming months. But this is for the good and I look forward to peoples opinions on what they think and with any luck I can get some members to write up some articles and blogs about their favorite games so I don't have to do all the work. So checkout what SSC has to offer and do register and let us know of any new games or help us out with locating old mods/patches. Enjoy the community and see you in the forums.

So I'm interested in a space trading game that probably doesn't exist. I don't want immersion, I got bored with Elite Dangerous very quickly and wish I hadn't bought it, and I was smart enough to not buy No Man's Sky. I don't want 3D and don't care much about the graphics. Looking for something very abstract.
I've been playing FTL which I find really fun, but aggravating since it's so rushed and you can't really develop a character and ship.
What I have in mind is a game similar to Traveller rpg. Great big universe broke into a hex map. Each hex has either empty space or a star system. You start with a pitiful one man ship. With every jump there is the possibility for a random encounter much like FTL. THe core of the game would be trading or running missions to upgrade your ship. With perhaps a story weaved in that you could purse at your own pace. Combat would be stats based and play out like classic RPG.
Any games like this ever made?
While I have not been posting here too often (apologies for that) I have been posting information on twitter, so I thought I would take the time and put an update here too
So from the last true big update on here there have been a lot of stuff being worked upon
One of the biggest things to be updated is the way everything interacts with each other, each system was working (to a point) on its own, however for the most part it now has a global effect on multiple things
For example the exp system was just being used for the mission system, higher level, more missions unlocked, however it is now all linked in with story progression and can be effected by everything from you colonists, their state of mind and well being all the way to base development and expansion. - this goes back to the original concept of, if you don't want to worry about a certain part of the game, while it may be harder to play its totally optional
the frame work of making the game "feel alive" is in place in its basic form, this currently includes some animations, ships and building damage effects this will be expanded later on to give it a true feeling that the base is being lived in.
There have been plenty of bug fixes including some memory leaks, crashes and better performance - reusing shaders and materials as much as possible, as to how much performance gain is hard to say as I have not had the time to test the actual full results but it all helps.
The first part of the story is now in and working for the most part - I am not sure if this will be activated in the next release mainly because I would like... if at all possible (cost and time permitting) to get the story voice acted, the frame work has been made with this in mind and if I can get the ability to do this then incorporating it into the game will be quick and painless - but as it is the timing is slightly out for a few things
Mainly though, over the last 3 months I have dedicated most of my available time in adding detail and colour (texture) to the buildings and getting them all in game, working and looking great.
So without further ado, here are (a lot) some screen shots of the buildings as they (mostly) look in game.
Feel free to leave comments or questions, your views? I will be sure to get back and answer anything you may be pondering!
Thought I would start this thread to get some insight into gaming on Linux. I have used it for work mainly so I know how to configure and use Linux pretty well. I just have never once tried to play a game on Linux. I see that Steam supports linux for a fair amount of games and I know Linux can emulate Windows environment to play games and this is where my questions are centered around.
How is windows emulation in Linux for today's games, does it play well?
I have always wanted to switch to Linux but I love playing games when I get too and didn't want to have to loose like 75% of my Steam library just switching to Linux for my OS. How are drivers for linux for the graphics card makers who would you suggest I buy for the best linux driver support?
What are some of the tools or software that I would have to research to get an idea of what I am in for in gaming on a linux machine?
I thought about dual booting my box, but I really wanted to move to linux eventually and only thing stopping me is not being able to play games and have them be enjoyable so if the kind gamers here can shed some insight as to gaming on a Linux machine it would be much appreciated

I`m looking for a randomly-generated Elite-style 3D space sim for some time. The thing is i don`t want a game that uses same-seed procedurally generated universe that is always the same, but a game that could generate different universe each time I start a new game. Does a game like this exist?

The game styles itself as a cross between Elite and Star Citizen http://www.moddb.com...roject-bluebeam judging from the video shown it looks like a StarCitizen hangar/space port and the space part is 3D but flying on plain.
Nothing to download at the moment but according to the Dev. it on the way.

Not sure if this is really your cup of tea (apologies in advance if not) but in case anyone is interested in a realistic simulator this is a good one to check out.
It's got the entire Solar System - all the planets and major moons - to explore. You can travel with free roaming spaceships,
or play traditional Apollo and Space Shuttle missions:
As the game is realistic so is the travel distances and time! But there is a time advance option to speed things up
While there is no combat element there is the entire Solar System for you to explore.
Anyone interested in this kind of game?

This game is super heavily inspired by FTL.
Ever wanted to play FTL with your friends, as a team, in a coop multiplayer run? Well basically Tachyon is a multiplayer version of FTL. But with it's own engine, logic, mechanics and of course some additional features - like being able to leave your ship for example.
Also the game is made to be quite a bit mod-able, so you can make your own FTL-like multiplayer adventures.
You can host your own local server for a private coop game with your friends. Or you can host an MMO server to roam around hundreds of thousands of sectors with other space pilots.
Tachyon is currently a WIP, so the amount of content is only going to grow.
But all releases are very stable and contain minimal amount of bugs.
So if You liked FTL - you will surely enjoy Tachyon.
Get it while it's free

As we promised, we are ready to give you more interesting infromation about upcoming changes in Starfall Tactics! It's definitely not even half of what we have already done, as there is simply too much for one news article. Don't worry - next news post will be even more interesting and we will share more cool things we have already done!
Control points rebalance and health bars
We did it. Once again. And we won't stop until we make sure that this part of the game is balanced properly - since it can influence the whole quick match gameplay, comeback possibility and battle dynamics. Here is the list of changes:
- Not upgraded Control Points won't grant you Warp Points anymore.
- To upgrade your Control Point you need to capture it with a ship and, while your ship stays in the area, push the upgrade button. If your ship leaves the Control Point area before you upgrade it, this point becomes neutral.
- Warp Station upgrade will no longer grant additional Warp Points.
- Now, If you play Co-op matches, every ally can upgrade control point, regardless of who captured it. Cost will be paid by the player who upgraded this point.
- Each next Control Point you get will provide you less income. We did it to neutralize incontestable advantage you get from capturing more points than your opponent.
And, in addition to this important change, we reworked health bars - now they look even better and clearly represent the difference between dreadnought hit points and frigate hit points. We also added small skill icons you can see on the ship when it uses any special module - of course, effect will show you everything you need, so this is just a small tool to let you control the army more conveniently.
Special modules are designed to give you more tactical opportunities - each of them gives you passive or active abilities and you are able to build the whole strategy even around a couple of them. So, another dozen of new modules will give you a better choice then ever, and here are four of them:
- Engine Boost is an activatable module which increases all ship movement characteristics, including maximum speed, angular speed, accelaration speed and deceleration speed. It has a 2x2 size - a very convinient form for most ships in Starfall Tactics.
- Weapon Overload module deals damage to your own structure on activation, but in exchange reduces cooldown time for all weapons installed on the ships. This thing has a usual 4x2 form making it available for many different ships.
- Another passive module, a 2x4 Warp Homer, is a very good tactical feature allowing you to warp-in ships in a small zone near the ship with this module - just as your Mothership does. Perfectly fits support (SpecOps) ships.
- Sensor Disabler module has a pretty self-descriptive name - on activation it disables all sensors of a target ship. So, it can make a single ship lose it's vision, but since it's a 2х4 module, it fits better on SpecOps ships.
Halley Eclipse frigate
And, as a bonus infromation for this week, we will show you a new Eclipse frigate - Halley! It's going to be a very heavy ship with a good defence level, but in exchange its firepower will be average.
Get ready for the next news article since we are going to give much more interesting infromation about development progress and upcoming features!

Greetings to all! I'm a 70 year old retiree! who's enjoying playing Pioneer Scout Plus but I'm taking on certain rescue missions where someone needs fuel. My problem is I keep crashing into the planet. I've only found 'one' tutorial example of this type of mission and it was done while the ship in trouble is already in space. The current copy of Pioneer scout plus has some ships 'on ground' so to speak. Has any of you out there come across this and has been able to solve the problem?????

We’re running at fever pitch here as development pauses while we start fine tuning for the First Playable Beta. A whole host of particle effects and shaders have been tweaked and added just for the sheer glory of it with a dramatic musical score thrown in for good measure.
But don’t take our word for it, check out the latest preview video ‘Galore!’
Nobody is more excited than we - now a mere are days away from releasing the First Playable of the new Shallow Space!
In the preview you’ll get to roam around a 30 Zone area, complete sample quests, fit modules, play with inventory – but the main idea of it is to test things like the controls in these early days as we roll in content and fixes, thick and fast.
Learn more about it, along with some excitable developer rant in ‘Cry Havoc!’

Since this game uses realistic gravity and physics and such, is it possible to slingshot myself around large planets to gain more speed? I believe it would be useful for saving on fuel.
