Welcome to SpaceSimCentral.com

It was a daring move to follow those weak comm signals out this far into space, but you lucked out. You have found SpaceSimCentral, a station that has been tucked away for some time at the edges of our galaxy where only the brave and adventurous travelers dare to go to seek fame and fortune. SpaceSimCentral is one of the last stops before you set off on new adventures in the vastness of deep space. We do get many travelers that tell great tales of merchandise and even things you can get for free if you know where to look. So, finish docking your ship and check-in your valuables and spend some time chatting with the locals on the station and maybe you will discover something you have been waiting a whole lifetime to find.

Enough of the intro, I'm DarkOne the Admin of SpaceSimCentral and we have been around a few years and are striving to become a great source of news, lore and a file repository for your favorite and upcoming space/scifi gaming titles. I have always tried very hard to make SSC a community where both developers and gamers can discuss what they want to see in games and developers can show off what they are working on and get honest feedback from gamers first hand. To all of the developers out there, SSC has always been very accommodating to developers in that we give them free forum space here on SSC to discuss their games with the public. There are quite a few projects going on here at SSC so you might as well join in on the fun as well.

So have fun exploring SSC, the site is going through some major changes and will probably continue to change for the coming months. But this is for the good and I look forward to peoples opinions on what they think and with any luck I can get some members to write up some articles and blogs about their favorite games so I don't have to do all the work. So checkout what SSC has to offer and do register and let us know of any new games or help us out with locating old mods/patches. Enjoy the community and see you in the forums.

I can't even run games at 4K, have to downscale everything to 1920x1080, heh. That will change when I have the means to buy a GTX 970.

I'm a long time fan of Eve Online. I had to stop playing the game because I was too invested in it and spent too much time playing. :-(

In Eve Online, I frequently flew logistics. For those of you who don't know what logistics ships in Eve are, logistics ships are repair ships that shoot magical beams at their allies repairing their armor or shields. Certain ships even had bonuses to repairing allied ships. Having a good network of logistics ships was integral to an effective fleet of almost any size.

So, will some form of repair ship be presence in Shallow Space? Or will all repair be by onboard modules?

Elite and Occulus

30 Sep 2014

Posted by UtilityFunction In: Elite: Dangerous

Heya folks, I had a go on Elite at the weekend at Eurogamer expo. Frontier had a huge setup - each station had a couple of joysticks for controls and a few had Occulous rifts. Sadly I didn't get to try the with the Occulous, but I can see how well it translates to Elite. The joysticks they had were the same as the ones in the cockpitin the game, so if you have a Rift on it looks like those are your hands.

Elite is tempting me to go whole hog at some point and get an Occulous + Joysticks. I can imagine it being the most immersive 3d experience ever.

Just for a bit more comparison, the Occulous is being used mostly in FPS games where the character you are playing is running around, while in reality you are sat at a desk mashing buttons. In Elite your sat in a cockpit - basically a desk staring at monitors and mashing buttons - it'll harmonize nicely with your real actions so the hands in the game will feel like your own hands.

Empyrion, whoa, A New Hope

Hi Spacesimcentral!

Have you been tipped about this yet?

I've been an eager consumer of this fine site for long. I have been a sucker (in more than one way) following development of indiegames well before the hype (mostly on indieDB).

These guys, Eleon Game Studios, claim they have been in the software/gamedev industry on average 10 years. They are developing a minecrafty spaceengineery procedural game with lots of planets and such (yes it sounds old. But maybe this time someone will get it done?)

Here are some visuals:

Making $$$

29 Sep 2014

Posted by ExpandingMan In: Starpoint Gemini 2

Well, initially I was fairly excited about SG2, for a while I had my hopes up that they would overhaul the combat system (and because there were so many major content updates, I felt optimistic), but sadly, that did not happen.  Therefore, it looks like this will mainly be a distraction to keep me busy while I wait for other games to progress.

Anyway, I am having a brutally hard time turning a significant profit in this game.  I just cannot seem to get enough to afford even a second ship.  I have played one hell of a lot of Elite-type games since 1990, but this one has me stuck.  This game makes getting a financial start in X3 seem like a cakewalk.

So, what do I do?  I'm guessing the only thing you can really do to make money in this is trading, but they don't exactly do much to make that very fun, so I haven't done much, not to mention that the starting ships have painfully small cargo holds.  Mining is dreadfully boring, so I've also tried to avoid that, though experiments seem to reveal that mining isn't a hugely profitable profession anyway (at least initially).

I got up to lvl 17, hording money all the while, only to wind up with barely 1M credits.  At this point my ship was too obsolete to fight, and I pretty much gave up.

Any suggestions?  Maybe more boarding operations?  More salvaging (making much salvaging is rare, but sometimes you get something pretty valuable)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Star Trek Horror Game Idea

28 Sep 2014

Posted by CrossDressiNate In: PC and Console Gaming

For a while I've had an idea for a Star Trek Horror Game, in the vein of Amnesia and the upcoming Alien game. You're stuck on a ship with Species 8472 AND the Borg. Not only are both species hunting you, but they're also hunting each other. The whole ship is open to you at any time and you have to figure out how to dispose of both intruders.

-The Borg Drone has already adapted to both your phaser rifle and pistol and conventional weaponry only angers Species 8472

-Use your environment in conjunction with weapons and tools to suppress and attempt to kill both of the intruders.

-Both the Drone and alien will attempt to repair long range communications and contact allies. You must attempt to do the same, while halting their progress.

-There is a communications blackout throughout the ship, so all communicators are offline. If you come into contact with other members of the crew, you must work together. They can either be assimilated by the drone or infected by Species 8472 (possible multiplayer)

-Same concept can be used with Jem'Hadar/Shapeshifter except they wouldn't be hunting each other or Cardassian/StarFleet officer and you are a Maqui.

I don't really have any knowledge in modding or creating a game, but I do have the creativity. Who knows, maybe a team could be started and we could try something out. Feel free to share any ideas.

Stars of Icarus - A Top-Down Space Shooter in Flash

27 Sep 2014

Posted by CrunchyLeafGame In: Stars of Icarus

Hi there,
we're Crunchy Leaf Games, a newly formed Indie Studio from Berlin, Germany! Stars of Icarus is our first team project and we're working tirelessly to make it the best experience it can be!
A top-down Space-Shooter for Adobe Flash, Stars of Icarus is focused on a deep combat system and exploration, featuring free movement and RPG elements. The deep combat mechanics will allow players to hone their skills, outmaneuver enemies and use the environment and other tools to their advantage. All the while upgrading their ship with looted and newfound technology.
The idea is to redefine the possible level of quality within Flash-based action games. We believe Stars of Icarus will outshine free-to-play and priced titles alike, combining the rewarding and exciting gameplay of a dungeon crawler with the mysteries of space and the fun of agile, fast paced movement and combat.

Obligatory Feature List:
  • An open world to explore
  • Deep combat with fast and agile controls
  • Engaging enemies with different behaviors and weaknesses to exploit
  • Tactical destruction of multi-part enemies
  • Lots of Loot and Upgrades
  • An interactive environment, offering multiple combat options
  • Replayability through a mix of hand-crafted and cleverly randomized content
  • Exciting visuals and presentation through a custom-built engine
We are eager to hear your opinion! Let us know what you think! Here, or on any of these:
We leave you with some gameplay footage of our Asteroid Breaker enemy and the Jump Gate. Constructive criticism is always welcome. More updates will follow soon.

Darkfield-Co-op VR space Dogfight

27 Sep 2014

Kickstarter for a Co-op dogfight game with a small single player component :good: and VR support, Looking for a modest £10K  more details on https://www.kickstar...its/darkfieldvr

Website http://www.darkfield-vr.com/

Be part of an elite squad with unique ships and special abilities. Team up with your wingmans, fight enemy pilots, protect civilian convoys and take down big space structures.

Darkfield combines modern mission-based CO-OP gameplay with the flair and setting of old space operas.

Choose one of 4 elite fighter pilots, each with special skills and unique ships. You are hired guns, doing the dirty work for the military deep behind enemy lines.

One of the co-op missions is to blow up a space station! It is heavily enforced, has a powerful shield and is guarded by squadrons of fighters. Flying in guns blazing just wouldn't do the job. Your squad has an experimental EMP device. Use it to disable the stations shield. Fire off nuclear missiles to blast a hole into the hull of the station, fly in, destroy the core and ride the shockwave back out! This is the kind of gameplay Darkfield is all about!

Other than taking down space stations, you will be escorting civilian fleets through disputed space, holding off waves of attackers and rob military convoys.

The release version of Darkfield will also have a small explorative singleplayer experience, which will explain the history of the conflict you are fighting in.

Useful weapons ideas for Ship2Ship fight / dogfight

26 Sep 2014

Posted by martinExospace In: Exospace

Dear community,

please help us decide the way of tactical behavior in the conflict of two ships.

We are willing to be more realistic as possible, but here we facing the wall.

Lets make an explanation:

We have classical space simulation conflict. In space, two or more enemy ships meet on their way, battle starts.

Everybody knows classical fight like ships are moving slowly shooting on each other projectiles, lasers, rockets, torpedoes etc...

There starting to be funny.

We can not stop, we will exactly miss each other by unimaginable speed. We wont see each other.

When ship in space is moving, takes a lot of energy to stop, or slow (exactly the same as was used on acceleration). That means, the really big ships will not stop so quick. Because we travel about 10 000 - 150000 Km/Hour (many times faster than bullet, with this speed is traveling ISS, or many satellites now). It is many times faster than a bullet!

We cant shoot.

The same speed and huge distances, is  why projectile weapons in space aren't so clever. When 2 ships moving towards, their speed to each other is for example 100000 Km/Hour. In this speed, I can throw a small stone on enemy ship. Impact of the fist sized stone in this speed will have similar effect like small nuclear weapon! I don't need to shoot something. Just throw snack from my moving ship in the right direction.

Shooting will move our ship back, in opposite direction of the shot. It is impossible to shoot from automatic weapons, our ship will start moving and rotating without control with each shot.

Real possible weapons will be a some kind of microwaves, electromagnetic, lasers, fight drones and missiles.

Do you have any idea on another kind of weapons, or how will the fight look like more funny?

If there will be some real space fight in the future, who will win. Actually we think, wins the one who first hit the enemy.

We ask our obelisk, but no answer ...

Galaxia: Remember Tomorrow

26 Sep 2014

Just leaving this here. Already has a well playable alpha version which has so far provided for me a gratuitous crashfree nice 4X experience.

I find this title quite refreshing, not in that it has anything new, but more that it omits much of the clutter and bloatware which many titles have today.

What are your thoughts on this one?

VO is F2P for mobiles now...

26 Sep 2014

Posted by Faceof In: Vendetta Online

New era for VO with F2P mobiles gaming and many more coming soon...

*** Vendetta 1.8.305
- Introducing "Crystal": Vendetta Online's cash currency for Free-to-Play mobile players! Crystal may be acquired in bulk via in-app purchase, or accrued more slowly through gameplay, such as gaining experience and levels, destroying Hive Bots, and reaching Achievements. Lower level equipment requires little or no Crystal, where upper level ships and gear may have increased requirements. Crystal is used for each individual quantity of item purchased, and is in addition to Credits and other factional and license-related gameplay requirements (ie, all regular gameplay requirements remain).

- Premium Subscription players do not need Crystal, and do not earn it through gameplay.

- All non-Premium mobile players will retroactively receive Crystal for experience and achievements they have already earned.

- As a special thanks to our supportive mobile players, everyone who previously made in-app purchases for access to ships and addons will receive double (2x) the Crystal that their funds would normally purchase. This has been automatically added to the most recently used character on your account.

- The "Crystal" system replaces the previous interim "ship-access" in-app purchase method, which has been removed. Thus, it is no longer necessary to make a purchase to gain "access" to a given ship. Because Crystal can be acquired through gameplay, it further mitigates potential pay-to-win advantages between Free-to-Play users. Crystal will also make it easier for us to increase the Free-to-Play license caps in the future.

- Free-to-Play mobile users who convert to Premium Subscribers will still retain any previously-earned Crystal if they revert to Free at a later point; but while the Premium subscription is active, the previously retained Crystal will no longer be visible, and they will not accrue additional Crystal until they have reverted to Free.

- Added a new "First Kill" badge for new users, with a notification and description pop-up the first time the player docks after earning the badge.

- New simplified account conversion menu and removed the captcha.

- Improved readability of some menus on mobile devices.

- Improved gamepad usability for most dialog boxes.

- Fixed issue with swiping not always working on initial Ship Purchase tutorial.

- Changed default framerate limit to 60 FPS from 40 for a smoother UI scrolling experience.

- New Snapdragon splash screen for Snapdragon-based devices.

- Increased default font size for high-res phone devices.

- Fixed potential sector crash when a mine times out and gets damaged at the exact same time.
