Hold on! Not yet!
But soon. According to this article Infinity will launch their own Kickstarter campagne next year!
I will normally be leaving my regular job to dedicate myself to I-Novae Studios full time early in 2013. We are also planning to launch a Kickstarter in Q1 2013 to fund our projects. More news about this will come as the deadline approaches
This and many more details can be found on http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=120&Itemid=26 (same link as above)
This would surely speed up the whole deal.
This is awesome. All these great space sims! I hope they all make it.

But half of never is still never...

I just don't know when I should play them. Looks like I will have enough space games from 2014 on for the following 10 years... =)
Oversaturated market is oversaturated.
Infinity ?! I agree with a previous comment: "[background=rgb(33, 47, 58)]But half of never is still never..."[/background]
[background=rgb(33, 47, 58)]I've given up hope a long time ago that I'll ever see any real updates concerning this game, not to mention it actually being released.[/background]
Nice they are doing some thing but can't help thinking they have been forced into by the Elite announcement.
One effects the other, eh Pinback? <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Imagine all these get made, how the heck are you supposed to pick from them? Nice dilemma though! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_crazy.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Who says you have to pick, just play them all and be done with it <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />)))))
I think space sims are a long way from being oversaturated
I think space sims are a long way from being oversaturated
There are going to be too many of them given the size of this market (potential customers) and at least one studio is going to learn it the hard way.
Market is big enough, 300k+ subscribers in Eve says that. You have also some other games like SWTOR or ST Online with lot of players and those two are SF MMO games so they count. Jumpgate had some players and old Taikodom and Vendeta too.
So it's a lot of people hanging around in SF universe especially space MMO games.
It's a big cake <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Problem:
There are not enough good MMO games today.
If EVE had real ship controls then you wouldn't need any other games to exist <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Finally! I had been waiting on that project for years as well. honestly, I don't think the market would be over saturated, but Infinity and Elite would definitely compete with each other more than vs Star Citizen. At the rate that Elite's kickstarter is going though, Infinity had better look to make a better sales pitch than DB has so far.
Hope they release that demo when they do the Kickstarter.
Don't really need a demo, just release a video that is 10-20mins that covers the basics as to what you will be able to do in Infinity. I have to admit I haven't kicked into Elite yet and I will have to see what Infinity brings to the table on their pitch to the kickstarter fans before I decide which one to fund. I agree that both Elite: Dangerous and Infinity are going to try to capture the same audience so it will be interesting to see who wins.
I thought that Infinity is more "MMO-oriented" than Elite:Dangerous, so the audience should not be exactly the same for those 2 , or am I Wrong ?
I'm going to fund Infinity because it is an original engine.
A game which has had to construct its own engine is likely to be far more ground breaking than something picking up the engine from somewhere else. They've constantly been working on that engine already and we've seen quite a bit of it already. It looks very polished and I believe in the vision of its creator.
I still maintain that the only reason there's not more space sims out there is because creating a game engine which can cope with the kind of things people are wanting is really really difficult.
Make a game of sufficient quality and the people will come. I think there would be space for 5 amazing space sims its just that no one has really quite managed to produce one yet. All the sims have had elements but never quite been there.
Don't think there will be any overlap between Elite and infinity's Kickstater as Elite's finishes on January 4th all Infinity has said is they intend to do one in the first quarter of next year.
Would not be too surprised if the big game corporations are starting to take an interest in space sim again.
Web site down with only a cryptic "we coming back soon" message on it, although the twitter feed is still active. https://twitter.com/inovae_keith
May be getting ready for the Kickstart?.
Still even if there is a kickstarter, what would be the release date? And how many features will not make the initial offering? I think those questions will be a let down for the people that have been following Infinity for many years. There is some serious competition in space games coming very soon and I think Infinity is wanted yes, but will it have enough backing to support a true MMO effort in the end?
IIRC was not the Kickstarter going to fund a smaller PVP battle game rather than the full Infinity MMO.
Looks like they have got part of the new website up now http://www.infinity-universe.com/News
It has been a long time in coming but we're proud to announce the release of our new website! As you have probably already noticed there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done to fill up the new site with content. Most notably it's going to be a while yet until our forums are back up and running as we continue to evaluate how to import data from our old forums. In the meantime please bare with us as we continue to update this site with additional content and functionality.
In other news we're still pushing hard toward releasing our Kickstarter by the end of the year. Due to the impending next-gen console releases this holiday season we've decided that if we can't release our Kickstarter by early November we're most likely going to delay it until early next year - probably February since GDC is at the end of the month. This is a situation we're doing our best to avoid as nobody wants to get this Kickstarter out of the door more than us, but we also want to do it right as we believe we're only going to have one chance.
For those of you who are aware that we were supposed to have a content release a month ago have no fear, we haven't forgotten! Once our new Infinity: Battlescape site is up and running we will do a big content release and we think you'll all like what we have to show! On the technology/engine side of things there are a few loose ends that we still need to wrap up before we launch the Kickstarter. Over the last month we finished re-integrating oceans with our new rendering pipeline which was the last major feature left for 'earth-like' planets (in the near-term). Before we can produce our Kickstarter videos we still need to re-integrate planetary rings and a few other things. New screen shots will be forthcoming.
Lastly, Flavien is now on Twitter and you can follow him here! We understand that without forums it's difficult for us to answer your questions and hear your concerns. While we work at restoring our forums please consider using Twitter or our Facebook page.
Sincerely,
The I-Novae Team
