Hey, you should update this Dark. Cause Dx9 has much newer redists. Plus, theres DX10 and the convuled DX11 that is barely even used and most people cant touch it, cause only like 4 cards even have it. 😛

Yeah I can do that. I upload them here and I can see if I can find a universal link form them to post. You cannot download DX10 or 11. So if you want to use them you have to upgrade both OS and gfx card. My ATI 4980 was pretty much the last card ATI chipset that supported DX10 before the switch to DX11... should have waited 🙂 But DX11 cards are expensive and there is no games that even really utilize that technology yet.

The links are still valid for drivers as they update them accordingly.

AvP DX 9 vs Dx 10 vs Dx 11 is simply a matter of what we're used to vs volumetric light effects (very pretty) vs real time soft shadows (serious eye candy). It neither adds nor subtracts from the game play in any mode, it's still just gory fun! 😀

Directx 11 has yet to be fully utilised so if you have a decent Directx 10 card then hang on to it. Directx 9 cards are starting to fall by the way side (unless it's an 8800 GT/GTX - they rock!) I upgraded from a 9800 GTX to an HD 5850 purely for triple screen cheesecake. If you're using a single screen then 8800/9800 GT/ GT260/ HD 4850 is more than sufficient for pretty much everything a game throws at you.

I have the 4890 in my rig and it plays everything I throw at it on full settings with ease. Personally video card makers should make their gfx cards with bios so they could just update firmware for support of different graphics technology. I would even pay a fee to not have to buy another gfx card every 3yrs 🙂

The 5xxx series came out just 3-5 mos after I built my machine, but maybe in another 2yrs when i want to upgrade again maybe we will be seeing a lot of DX11 games then. I think this will slow down a bit personally because the consoles are still using DX9 abilities.

wouldnt work Dark. You could BIOS update a 6800GTX all you want, it wont change. It's the hardware that alters. Faster speeds, faster ram, more dinglehopers... Its just like a car, you cant just change the tires on it and claim its 'brand' new. A car from 1960 is gonna be crap compared to one made today. You'd have to overhaul the whole thing to get the benefits, same with a GFX. You could probably make DX versions Biosable. But really, would you wanna play a DX10/11 game with 256mb of ram, and clock speeds of like 300/600? They'd be slow and ugly as heck.

direct X 10 redistributable and webinstaller jun release is now available http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=04ac064b-00d1-474e-b7b1-442d8712d553&displaylang=en

also the actual sdk, but like i said if not really needet prefer to use the enduser version (it's faster).

but if you like to develop for, or just to find out how hlsl shading is scripted you will use the sdk, else enduser

warning:

don't install both the sdk is allways installed and didn't asks for older version neither it will update them, so parallel installs will be the result if older sdk or enduser is not uninstalled, this can lead to several problems. additionally the sdk is allways the prefered one by the system, since the developers want to have it present.

edit:

for the june redistributable use this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3B170B25-ABAB-4BC3-AE91-50CEB6D8FA8D&displayLang=en

for the june webinstaller use this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

hey you can't compare cars to graphic cards. 1967 ford gt40 has still more HP and higher torque as any, even F1 (go compare if you don't believe), crap compared to today ts, ts, ts 😉 ok fuel consumption is a bit high 😆 well and it has a maneuverability like a rocket powered horse wagon, but apart from that 😈 further i don't have to tell you which was most powerful in serial build car ever and from which century it was, do i?

[attachment=117:A01DB.jpg]

if this is crap then i don't know what todays cars are

i guess there are only two cars i really want to drive once in my life the Ford GT40 and the McLaren GTR-F1

I have a 8800GTS in my second pc and it runs pretty much everything without too much problems. Not sure what you are spending on it. But the 8800's don't have the ability to run DX11 and some cannot run DX10.1. So here you can look at some cards that are pretty cheap and are a step above the 8800GTS

Cheers D1.

Didn't know about them not being able to run DX10/11 games.I'am very much in two minds as to weather its worth upgrading the computer as it really need every thing changed.

Just to let you know that MSoft came out with DX10 and DX10.1 and depending on when the 8800 was made it may not support DX10.1.

Personally Pinback you can build a decent rig for under $800 and maybe less depending how many parts you can salvage from the old machine. AMD has some cheap dual/quad processors for around $100 and 4GB memory you can get for around $125-150, Gfx will run ya from $100-200. And a decent MB for about $100-135. So I sense a new PC in your future 🙂

So do I unfortunately I don’t feel that I can justify buying a new PC at the moment, I may just settle for a console for a while.

I got a brand new 9500 GT for £45.00! 🙂 Unfortunately my PSU is dying so I have had to order a 600 Watt unit. It is worth thinking about uprating your PSU if your doing other upgrades as those more powerful graphics cards can be hungry!

If you have the extra money to get the module PSU then get it, because you only attach the power cables you need to make the inside of the case less messy and the air circulation will be better. I usually always buy 700W PSU's. I just recently actually sent back my OCZ PSU 750w and I should have my new one here in a week. Glad I keep extra PC parts lying around for emergencies 🙂

Gaming's never been more popular [...] PC gaming, in particular, is having a renaissance.

The GFX card market seems to have gone bananas! The soaring value of Bitcoin doesn't help, of course.

Yet another masterful necro-post!

Yeah the prices of these gfx cards are crazy, my son and I built his new gaming machine and I would have loved to stick a GTX3070 in it because it was supposed to MSRP at around $500 and when they hit new egg they were gone so quick and the cost was about $200 higher than the MSRP, that 3090 card is going for like $1400+ that is insane.

All they are doing really is delaying my upgrades, games aren't advancing that quickly that you can't use a gfx card for 4-6yrs.... running 1440p gaming rig gives you great visuals.

So unless DirectX13 comes out soon and changes the game I might be using my Vega 64 card another 1-2yrs. We were able to get my son a top grade RX5700XT card he is happy and his FPS is better than mine now haha...
