Just a thought

I was musing about possible gameplay scenarios, as I do from time to time, and was thinking about crew members and their possible motivations. Hypothetically as one possible scenario, if you have a ship with a turret and hire someone as a gunner, the crew member would want to save his or her own ass, but if you have a radar mapper the crew member might win a share of the bounty. Perhaps the bounty goes to the person who makes the final kill or perhaps the bounty is awarded as a percentage of hits. There would be a contest between the player on the main gun and the crew member in the turret. Over time the crew member might accrue enough money to buy a ship and leave the player's employ. The player might then be stuck for some time looking for a replacement.

If anyone else has any random thoughts, related or unrelated to this one feel free to post them here.

good idea, gemini starport has crew bonus skills as a gameplay element ie 4% to damage for gunners, 5% radar range for nav operator, perhaps a fuel technican could bring in a z% savings on fuel usage or x range to jumpdrive range

A Longshoreman or Trader aboard could help you buy for lower and sell for higher... or get extra goods when scooping cargo...

If u have an employee leave there has to be a way to employ perhaps even a rabble rouser wherver u are.

Of course another option is when enemy ships blow up, depending on their size the ability to capture and escape pod and a small chance of capturing a new crew member could be another idea down the track

I really like the idea of capturing a new crew member. Actually, the idea of being to pick up anyone in an escape pod has interesting possibilities. You might pick up a passenger, or prisoner from an enemy ship that could set you on a quest. You could rendezvous with a ship to secretly transfer a spy or diplomat. There's also the possibility that if your ship is destroyed, you could be captured. Who knows what a talented scriptwriter could do with that!
