I think that star wars should no longer be allowed to be a privately owned project or series of projects. What star wars IS is bigger than some single little story. basically, if it could at all count as star wars ,,, it sort of is.

lightsabers of any kind?? basically star wars . fighter battles with blasts?? basically it's star wars.

instead,,, Star Wars should be an open source development. Anyone who wishes to make contributions , forks, version numbers, should be able to enter their work into the pool. a system of voting could be established to pick the best parts for a particular "title and version number", so that community can start to splice together some of the basic, main themes and stories. It's really not possible to come up with the "real" star wars, or even several of them, from Disney. Also, the project should not be stopped on some release date. the movies must continue to be worked on. They are unfinished.

anyway,,, Star Wars Newtonian?
I think it should be a category of star wars, an alternate series of star wars, where newtonian physics is applied to the themes and scenes, to make for a category of games and films. I have an entry already. I threw together this slideshow to outline a scene I think could be awesome in newtonian.

The scene is the death star assualt, assuming the pilots must fire straight down the exhaust port, and assuming the engines you see in the film, are the whole engines you get.

I'm super excited to talk about newtonian star wars, and newtonian space games. I don't care so much about "real physics" , like orbital physics, engine size, realistic travel times, sizes of ships and stations,,,, all I want is newtonian thrust gameplay... to include forward only thrust like "thrust and shoot" , as well as 6dof like "orbital racer".

Nice idea but I think Disney will want their $4 billion dollars plus worth out of it before they would give ever consider letting anyone else do anything with the franchise.

Are their any mods for the 6DOF game, I can't remember off hand but maybe some one has already had a go at this.

Closest thing to that was Genesia, created by Vuzz. This branch of the Alpha 31 or 33 of the open source Pioneer Space Sim had some Star Wars inspired ships created by Gernot that Vuzz added to his build. Genesia still holds the record as having the greatest amount of flyable ships included in the build, around 90 plus if I remember correctly and most were created by Gernot. It used to be in the download section of this forum but I have not looked for a while. Last time I loaded it up, it wouldn't run as it's quite old now and Vuzz has stopped updating it. Maybe Gernot can help? This sounds right up his alley. 🙂

can you tell me more about pioneer genesa?

my drive is tiny and all the way full, and I don't know how to install such old games as well, so I didn't try to play it just yet.

as for how the ships look,,, well I actually don't care much about that. I don't need the look of the ships to make me relate to star wars ideas. .. Then again,, that's totally not true, they have to look exactly right because that's what makes them work the way they do. .

so the ships would be limited by their engine size, mass, weapons capacity,,, and basically Star Wars has a handful of ships that would look the same in any universe (the a-wing).

my problem with most older games, is I'm looking way more for a game like descent, where there are a lot more limitations on navigation. I don't really want the game where everything is in wide open space,,, I want the game that takes place in a dense urban environment, with structures and objects as far as a pilot could fly.

It all started with Tom Morton. He created Pioneer back in 2010. It was meant to be a remake of Elite 2 of sorts. This means it had a full sized procedural Galaxy, Planetary Landings with no loading screens and a Newtonian flight model.
After this Pioneer was improved upon and still can be found on the Mod DB site, in fact it is still being worked on today by it's team of dedicated developers. This forum does not like too many links in a post so just do a search for it once you find Mod DB.
This is what you would call the main build of Pioneer. But there were other off shoots too. Like Scout Plus by walterar, Phoenix by Gernot and Genesia by Vuzz. All of these are like Pioneer but have their own flavour and ways of doing things that sets them apart from one another. Also they are all standalone games in their own right.
The main thread for Genesia can be found here:

I use to play it regularly but it stopped working one day after a Windows update and I have not succeeded in getting it to run since I am sad to say. Perhaps you will have more luck than I?.

The one thing these old movie houses haven't figured out yet is that if you allow your fans to make fan projects and expand your world and fan base that your 'brand' only gets bigger and more passionate. Unfortunately Pinback is right.... its all about the $$$ and they copy-write strike anyone that makes anything that infringes on their brand if it takes money from them.

Maybe after these last three SW movies things might lighten up because they are killing the SW brand. 🙂

If Star Citizen is highly mod-able when its finally done I could see a epic SW conversion mod being created. There is a nice SW mod for Freespace 2 but it doesn't have newtonian physics

So then just to plug away,, and using the example of Star Citizen,,,

and then IN that adventure that people go running with in said imaginary game,, there would GET to be ideas thrown around and used for the game that would actually make for great movie scenes or themes.

In fact, you could probably sift through it and make a much better movie than has ever been produced. The original Star Wars, bless its heart, still has plenty of room for improvement, it's just that because we all knew that movies were hard to make and there would be so many compromises, we celebrated what parts of the film were "successes", and ignored Carrie Fischers lack of respect for people, or Harrison Fords "just bein cool"ness.
