Hi,

after fixing all possible issues this game may have (it's possible!), one can concentrate on the gameplay and discover that The Precursors is really a multi-facette game: a lot of missions to carry out on planets and in space, scenario missions and side missions as well (called Ressource Missions).

Because some files of the Official russian 1.1 patch make my English version unplayable, I cannot really say what exactly the 1.1 patch adds in terms of Gameplay. But I have found out that:

With the english version patched with Wesp5's patch, you can use Flyers on Goldin and Reandore, also use combat robots. you can actually use one in the opening mission: just run towards it, it will fire at you, but you can take control over it. Be sure to leave it before going in the tunel, otherwise you will find yourself on this planet again afterwards and be stucked (bug).

All this doesn' t seem possible with the 1.1 patch.

Gameplay question:

I am now on Reandore for the first time, and chose to combat with the Free Traders (also to fix my status with them after a lot of pirate actions from me). From there on, it seems that you cannot do any space missions anymore: If I take off from Reandore, I will meet transport ships or tankers, but I can only scan them with F2, no more F4 option to communicate and escort them. All my reputations are in the green (except for bandits). Can I do again space missions afterwards?

Thanks,

XenonS

Sounds more like a bug.

Is it just in the Reandore system that you can't do space missions or all of the systems?.

No, it's anywhere, I changed back to the Gli system with lots of DU ships, and even near Goldin. But then, I took my older save game and noticed that there was an unfinished side mission: I had to help a tanker that was flying out of control and make mines explode on his path. I succeed, but soon after he collided with a transport ship, nice explosion... but the mission failed. From then on, I can not  communicate with any ship. Will step back and succeed the mission, let's see if this fix it. Else than that, I have no idea why it doesn't work anymore.

I used the console to get my rep for the Union, Free Traders, DU all in the green, will now try to set them at 100%, maybe it works only then.

Do you think the 1.1 patch adds something substantial in gameplay (new features etc.) ? I have passed the russian readme in Google Translate, but it only seems to fix some crashes in the russian dvd version.

According to the thread D1 made for the Russian patch it just bug fixing http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/topic/917-precursors-official-dvd-patch-v11/

Could have been something to do with the fixing of you rep through the console?.

No, I have used the console after i saw it didn't work anymore, still trying to succeed this past side mission. I remember now that while I was escorting a transport I received an SOS call and got away from the transport. I was not able to find that transport again and re-join. Must be the cause. As an unpredictable side effect, the tanker (SOS) collided with the ship I was escorting! The mission remains open with no waypoints and the mission list (o) dissapeared. To get things right again, it seems that I must succeed the mission and re-join my escort ship which is waiting for me, but where the heck ? 🙂

Interesting thing:

One can make the Chase Mode work when going in the console and typing "rpgrules". This will activate all the perk powers. If one has not yet collected all the Perks,  this is clearly cheating, but once you collected all, acitvate it so you are sure all powers work correctly.

After activating, the Chase Mode will spot up occasionally, but not always - apparently this is intended.

After finishing the entire game quest, I will start to deal with the SDK interface, here you can edit missions etc. If possible, I will try and change the Chase Perk to be constantly available (as a MOD), but obviously I can not promise it...

Also there are some Ressource missions that seem to remain open (but no mission waypoints and description in the mission interface) which will impede other missions to appear, that's serious and hopefully I can fix that.

I've found the cause of not getting space escort missions anymore. The english version 1.0 has some important game play bugs, some of them are enjoyable like using any vehicle for free (flyers, buggies, helicopters), but some others do seriously harm the gameplay. So, after attacking any ship as a pirate you will not be able to communicate any more, even after fixing your reputation. Only scanning with F2 will remain possible (but useless).

The files from patch 1.1 will fix that, it seems that this patch does a lot more than its readme is saying. Alas, the Precursor.exe from patch 1.1 has the memory leak...

My solution is currently to play with all  files from the 1.1 patch, EXCEPT I will use the Precursor.exe from english 1.0 - and it works! Still I can fly and use any vehicle. All escort missions remain possible: if you are an enemy you will have the option to bribe the ship or to pay for being able to escape, all with the F4 communications.

Will take some time to look for the "lost worlds" like Neglekt or Zinith that have landscapes to land, but were taken out for the release. Maybe there are still there.

The game have more enjoyable Bugs!? I would like to know more. tnx

Are you sure!? why u use Precursor.exe English 1.0!?

I Think Precursor.exe 1.1 is the best Option.

Thank you

P.S. -

You fix this game ?!! amazing, thank you.

I have now - somehow hehe - got my fingers on the original russian dvd version. I will then patch to 1.1 and / or to Wesp5's patch and probably I get rid of most of the issues. That's also the advices in the other posts here, but I had only the English 1.0 version to start, and with it 4 different (!) install procedures that finally worked. The FPS part of the game is really worth to give this game a try, also the space part is fine.

Here the serious bugs I encounter:

- Space: some escort missions will be impossible to end because you finish too close to the planet and have to break off (without payment)

- Frequent game crashes due to misplaced "StaticMeshs" or objects you have droped (solvable by clearing the CACHE files)

- Some missions will be given to you although you are Enemy to the faction (space); mission impossible, no payment.

- Some Perks do not work (some of this is on purpose like Stealth which is not meant to work 100% to give you an easy ride, others are buggy).

Workarounds in space:

If you play in space, you will have to avoid doing escort missions to planets like Monogo, because you will end up to close to the planet and get killed if you don't fly away from it, you cannot follow the main ship. Happens on some planets.

When attacking ships in space you should not immediately attack, but use the F4 to communicate first, whatever you plan afterwards, this will avoid the bug where the Com menu (F4) will disappear forever, making all space missions unavailable.

FPS:

No serious bugs here. You can always deviate from the main story line and go for side or space missions. The action on Reandore is awesome with nice in-build traps...

I got deeper in the game, almost finished Reandore and got past the terrible Morento planet, used most vehicles at Reandonre including cars, battle robots, hower tanks, flyers and helicopters (I have stolen a heli by almost destoying the entire Empire base with a battle bot after sneaking in).

Here some important considerations about vehicles in general:

- Using the russian dvd version or the English 1.0 version + Wesp5's patch will enable you to use all flyers and vehicles, some of them must be opened with a lockpick, most of the enemy vehicles can be stolen.

- Using the official patch 1.1 will fix some bugs and crashes in the game, but you will not be able to use most of the vehicles, which greatly diminishes the play value IMO.

- The dark green battle robot on the frontline at Reandore is not usable, although you can get in with a lockpick. You will remain stucked in it and must reload the last game.

- Flyers, battle robots, helicopters or hower tanks cannot be re-armed (or maybe yes? I didn't find any method), but they can be replenished with fuel and repaired if you buy jerricans and repair kits.

- Battle robots have a powerful secondary rocket weapon to be used with the right mouse button.

- Using ground vehicles out of plan at Reandore (starting with one, comming back with another) will mess up the mechanician's repair: you pay, but no vehicle gets repaired

Droping objects:

Before making a longer way through the juingle or desert, you will have to drop some heavy material and ammo because you are limited to 50 kg. Be sure to always drop an armor suit with "0" armor value, you will get rid of 6 or 12 kg useless material and walk or run much faster.

Droping anything will create a box on the ground and you can re-pick it later. It will remain there for sure as long as you don't leave the planet. After leaving the planet, ground vehicles will remain where you have left them, air vehicles may dissapear but respawn elsewhere, empty boxes will vanish but even non-empty boxes may dissapear, sometimes saving/loading the game will make the boxes re-appear togother with the objects you have droped.

To get rid of some material and be sure to find it after a new landing on the planet, put all material in a vehicle with F2.

Be aware that most game crashes are due to dropped objects.

Here 3 spoilers:

[ >>> SPOILER<<<]

Stealth and Chameleon:

You can always activate Stealth with F and F3. Stealth doesn't work at 100% and this is intended: it works best if you don't move and you are somewhat far away from enemies. If you are close, they may hear your heartbreaks, also the more you move, the more you get visible.

Once you get the Chameleon Perk, in order to make it work you will have to eat the magic plant "Kleps" which you can buy from a merchand. Eating a plant will last for 20 seconds.

The most annoying enemies are...

The flying security robots. You will encounter most of them at Goldin, but at Reandore near the Empire bases they will make you a painful life. They don't shoot from distance, but get close to you or whatever your vehicle is and immobilize you with laser bursts. You must get out of your vehicle and use the Lenkon assault riffle with anti-armor bullets for best results. Kill them first of anything else or you will stay immobilized and get killed. Killing them from far away is almost impossible.

The frontline at Reandore...

...is a big mine field. If you go past the Free Trader's checkpoint you will soon explode or get stucked in the mud. Use the free space along the mountain on the right and carefully make it downhill towards the Empire checkpoint after killing the guards with your sniper gun. You may have to shot at some mines before to clear the road.

All this is if you are working for the Free Traders. If working for the Empire, you will have to use the same way along the mountain, but better bring a lot of rockets...
