A new interview from a crotaion game site http://www.nutty-gamer.com/en/interview-egosoft/ I remember reading a few years ago just before XR was released in an interview that he mentioned that XBF was going to be released on the Amiga but as the games market disappeared they switched to the PC.

Mmmm XBF on the Miggy? Would have liked to have seen that but I think you would have needed a pretty high spec one to play it: 060 at least or (more likely) maybe a power PC equipped Cyberstorm.

As for the interview, well people can say what they like about Egosoft but at least they (along with a few others: Tarr Chronicles/Dark Horizon, Star Wraith games, Parkan II, Precursors to name a few) kept the space sim genre going through the dark days of the early millennium. Personally, I wish em well in their next project and hope they learned some important lessons about releasing games most of all!

I knew (eventually) X:R would come good (an it is a good game now) but game buyers these days tend not to be the most patient of people and if they are not happy they will be vocal about it and rightly so it has to be said. If Egosoft are wise they will take their time over the next game in the series release. X4 needs to be good right from the get go. If they do that hopefully they can win back some of those fans who were not happy about X:R and perhaps bring a few news ones too into the series.

Nice statement here and its very true with all games, you can see the results of negative comments all over the place on steam. Especially with early access games. I guess that's why I hate early access because it gives gamers a negative outlook on a game that isn't even close to being done.

But as you state Geraldine, Egosoft was in a bit different boat here since they released a game that obviously wasn't ready for prime-time and the community ripped it. I bet now if X:R was released to the masses at its current state I bet the feedback level on steam would be much better than 'mostly negative'.

But getting any PC game ported back to the Amiga has to be a task in itself and you would need to have a dedicated resource on it for minimal economic gain for them, so I could see how it probably won't ever get completed.

No they have no intention of doing anything like that, it was just some thing I remembered from one of his interview where he mentioned that development started off on the Amiga before moving onto the PC.

Surprised that Egosoft have not done what Frontier have done E:D Horizons and just repackage  X:R and the DLC as a new edition and thereby avoid the huge number of negative reviews for the older version of the game.

That's a shady practice and I am glad they haven't. If you glance at the more recent reviews they are starting to get a lot better now so that is a plus for them.
