I surely do hope X4 doesn't have the same rocky start as X: Rebirth did. I Finally purchased all of X:Rebirth and its expansions back in July. I haven't played this at all yet, so I will probably be waiting to purchase X4 until mid to late 2019 after patches and this planned DLC is released.

Read more on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/392160/X4_Foundations/

X4: Foundations will feature an extremely large universe from day one.
Home to several factions of the Argon, Teladi and Paranid races, each with multiple complex economies.
The Paranid, for example, are a race with very deep religious beliefs, fractured into two competing empires and now raging war against each other.

Then there are of course also a lot of other potential adversaries:
Those where you have a choice, like different Pirate factions, and those where you don’t, like the infamous Xenon: A race of advanced artificial general intelligence, once built by mankind themselves to help colonise space.

There will be Expansions, which will bring more races, their ships, stations and lots of missions into the X4 Universe. Our goal is to bring the first big Expansion within about one year.

X4: FOUNDATIONS preorder and digital Collector’s Edition:

X4: FOUNDATIONS will be available for $49.99 (€49.99) on November 30th.
Starting today you can pre-order the digital Collector's Edition and get:

- X Novel: Nopileos by Helge Kautz as English and German eBook.

Rebirth is... odd? The story is fairly generic. (I do believe they pretty much copied Darkstar One for the first half...) Rebirth is much more accessible, yet ... clunky? The station walking is terrible, made worse by how difficult it is to find a mechanic to do something as simple as fix your ship. Its just... overly bloated, and not in a good way like IWar 2 or FS2. They added all these mechanics and they just dont gel well together.

As for X4. I was excited until I went to the steam page and saw the system requirements. Sheesh. Guess I'll pick it up when I build a whole new computer lol.

🙂 I am hoping there is mods and player made patches that might fix some of the issues with X:R when I finally sit down to play it.

X4 system specs aren't too bad with the GTX1070+ and 16GB of memory for recommended specs. Which honestly make sense after watching the videos. I wanted to buy another 16GB for my system sometime next year, damn memory prices have been high for over a year now.

I do hope Egosoft has a better launch of X4 than with X:R, because even though I have never finished a X game, I still do admire the fact they are a dedicated space/scifi game developer and there isn't many of those 🙂

I'm not holding out much hope of smooth launch considering what has happened with the past games.

You know I have been burned with every single x game I have bought over the years.

You know what I'm going to sit on the fence for 6 months and see what happens.

At least, I waited 2yrs and still haven't played X:R yet after I bought it 😀

But like I said I give props to Egosoft that they do not quit on their games and they are worth a look or purchase just because they do fix their games if you give them the time. I just hope the core game is fleshed out and stable before they start putting DLC in.

I am particularly interested with station interaction and exploration to see how it improves over X:R.

Egsoft is bit quite, you think they would be putting some videos out, given that the game is scheduled for the end of the month.

Just noticed on their steam page that they are Publishing it themselves, have they split from DeepSilver.

Now that you say it they have been pretty quiet ever since the announcement of the release date. Maybe they are just putting in some serious hours to make sure they don't have another X:R to their launch. But I am sure they have a marketing department even if its only one person... they could make videos and at least do some posting out there to market the game a little.

I think as long as they release X4 on time and it has the features they said it would have at launch that I think fans will be ok even if it has a few bugs. But for their sake i do hope they put X4 through a better QA process or the reviewers are gonna kill this game on YouTube.

That's the $64,000 question and given their track record with X3 and XR in which case both game were shoved out of the gate with Egosoft attuited of we will fix it later.

Granted that they have always fixed their games, but having bought XR on the release day, I have found that I had lost interest in playing the game after they finally managed to fix everything. Because of the constant number of restarts after major patches, and after sinking a lot of hours into the game I never really got to see any of the game.

🙂 I hear you I have never completed a X game before. I haven't even played XR yet but I will and I have all the DLC. I do give Egosoft credit that they do support their games with patches.... but hey why not delay the game so you don't have to have 3yrs of patches to make it great.

Gfx are nice and everyone loves them, but people like the X games because of the mechanics so hopefully this is good and they have improved upon the negative feedback from X3/X:R, if they do they can repair their reputation with the fans.

As to their relationship with Deep Silver I didn't even notice this. Maybe they did this to have total control over the game and release, so maybe, just maybe this might be a good thing for the X fans that they don't have a publisher.

It looks like they are going to be self publishing as this thread on the X forum https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=146&t=400484&start=285 (second post from the bottom) confirms that their will be no boxed edition of the game, only digital.

And I think it was on page one of that thread they said they were in talks with their publisher about a boxed version of the game.

So put two and two together, could be wrong but it looks like they might be doing it themselves this time.

I just hope they make it more like X2 was as that was, by far, my favorite out of the entire series.

If anyone still has X2 check out this mod for it. Easy install, just drop it into the games folder and enjoy much higher resolution textures. 🙂

Agreed CaptainKal. Especially with Egosoft press silence on the release of X4 in 2wks, you would think they would be going crazy on YouTube releasing videos if they thought X4 was solid. Their silence is worrisome. I usually don't purchase these games until the collectors or all the DLC is out, because the X games usually have rough launches.... I hope X4 launch goes very well.

I think they are being very careful after what happened with X:R but I do hope it's a smooth release as Egosoft really need this to be good. I think, after all the hard work they did fixing X:R, these deserve X4 to be successful. Time will tell.

Looks like we wont be seeing any more previews as the devs have posted this on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/X4Foundations/comments/9vs7mb/dev_straight_from_the_forums/ Also looks like they will be working down to the release date, don't know if that's a good or bad thing, guess we will find out after the game is released.

As D1 said above it's going to be interesting to see what the walking on station interaction is given that XR was just more of a bolt on to the that game. Have they been able to flesh it out a bit more.

There won't be a physical edition, for now at least, maybe there will be one that includes all the expansions later on tho? I too hope they do another "X Box" 😉

YouTuber ObsidianAnt hase been given access to a pre release copy of the game and he streamed it yesterday and had now upload the vid of it.

In fact I think their is two.

just had a quick look through and noticed the docking is back from X2 (about time) and it looks like XR highways are in.

Well there has been over 1200+ reviews and its still positive for X4 so thats a good sign, I think as long as Egosoft keeps pumping out the fixes they will be in good shape. I didn't watch this whole video but its looking good so far from the game play that I have seen. Definitely is time consuming with all of the map/maintenance aspects.

Same here just skipped through the vid and watched the bits which looked interesting as I did not want to watch someone fiddling around with the game for 5 hours 🙂

pretty good launch for Egosoft, fanboys seem happy enough although their are the usual tec complaints. Personal I will not be buying it as I have never got on with the X games, far too much of a micromanagement /
economic simulation. And besides we now have a far greater selection games to choose from now.

In the last 5 days they have release 3 patches so they are definitely giving it some good support and I agree with CaptianKal in 2-4mos it should be pretty solid.

You have to wonder if Egosoft dose this on purposes because they know they can get away with it or it a genuine lack of resources.
