I like em currently. Something refreshing about having ugly characters most of the time more realistic =)
Is there a way to turn off the new reticule, at least when in external/sidereal view? It kind of covers up the view of the ship. Also the font is very tiny and there’s a lot more information, will take some getting used to.
Here’s a new one for me: lava!
First time seeing anything like this. Mostly I’m doing taxi jobs, getting further out from Sol, so far haven’t been visiting many “massive highly volcanic” planets, mostly rocky lifeless ones. This one happens to have a single settlement with military class certificate. I went back to Sol to see if Io looks anything like this, but it’s just a standard “cratered” planetoid.
Some huge volcanos

About 10km tall
yep that worked, thanks
So i get this GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY error when visiting gas giants (Windows 7, Geforce 250GTS 1GB), on my usual detail settings (planet textures already disabled). Setting planet detail distance and fractal detail to very low allows me to orbit gas giants without error, but looking at the gas giant makes framerate very low and it looks all “grey” (jupiter), not sure if that’s the normal appearance from orbital distances, with low detail.
I can’t find a config.ini file, but there is a GasGiant.ini file in the data/config/ directory
Edit: actually it seems I get the GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY error even with the lowest detail settings, I think I didn’t fully re-start pioneer the first time so the error was already present, giving the planet the “grey” appearance
ah so “g-force” is a misnomer, it’s actually acceleration. good to know 🙂
How do you determine the m/s^2 from thrust when looking at ships in the shipyard? They only show G and Delta-v (which i guess is a speed limit or some kind?), but the value that would be most useful to me is m/s^2 (how much actual acceleration the ship gains from given thrust for the mass). You can see this when you already own the ship in the ship stats.
Also is there a fix for launching pioneer from steam w/ overlay? I get an OpenGL error and the fonts in-game are messed up.
Been playing Frontier: Elite II for a little bit and just found out about Pioneer. I was checking out some gameplay videos and finally found one that showed some combat, but I’m disappointed to see that lasers travel at sub-light velocity (they don’t fire at the speed of light like in the original Frontier), can anyone explain the reasons for this?
