Thanks for the heads up DC, will be starting Dragonfall tonight or tomorrow and hope to get through it mid Feb.
This sucks, I hope he gets better and back to his passion that he has been working on for 6+ years.
Is he still a one man team? Shame he has no backup to keep the project on track since Rogue System has a publisher.
I have hundreds of games on my steam account and finally got around to playing Shadowrun Returns (I will play Dragonfall next).
I took my time with this game over 1-2 weeks and played about 22hrs on this one. Overall I had a nice time with it, I feel like it had a lot more potential. I would have liked to have a little free-roaming in the barrens and have more interactions and side quests given too me.
Story wise I would say it was well done story, I just would have liked the option to go off story for a while instead of staying on story the whole time. I mean you have all this character customization, skills and equipment but you rarely get the chance to use it personally. It would have been great if you could terrorize people or corporations with your decking abilities 🙂
It would have been great for the game if they would have hired some voice actors for most if not all of the dialog (maybe its my age, but I am starting to hate reading text in games…). Playing the game on a 35″ ultrawide monitor was an ok experience, would have liked to see more scaling for larger screens.
I used the manual save 2x during my play-through when I thought I was in a story climax/changing point type of interaction. But other than that the auto saving was sufficient and there is a rewind feature that I thought was good as well just in case you don’t save often enough.
The end (I won’t say spoilers) I thought was a little anti-climatic personally… I hear that Dragonfall is a much better story so I am looking forward to playing the expansion.
Shadowrun Returns was not a waste of my time, its good for 20hrs of entertainment and if you time it right you can get it on sale for under $5. I will not play through this again since there is no achievements… but there is some replayability here only from the aspect of making different conversation choices to see what the outcome would be. I don’t think that is worth another play-through since its not really going to change the plot much in my opinion.
I might make a bigger review when I am done, but I doubt people want to hear about a 5yro game 🙂
See I am not lying when I say I never have time to play games…. I am playing them for the first time years after I got them hahaha
I have never heard of this one, will have to bookmark this and check it out sometime… 🙂 nice find. Hopefully the conversion to run on todays PC’s went well and it plays and runs all the videos well. Hopefully they rescaled all the videos.
Yeah your hangup here is procedural generation, there is a lot of games that meet your 1,3. But there really isn’t any games that really use procedural generation and allow you to fly multiple ships that I can think of. I haven’t played it yet but i think X4: Foundations would fit this itch you have if you can live without #2 since its galaxy map is quite big and you can now fly all ships.
Yeah I will definitely buy Legacy this year sometime, its a sad day when a developer or team that has been dedicated to scifi their whole career decides to hang it up. But they can venture off into space knowing they impacted a lot of gamers with their dedication and vision.
I don’t know much about the modding capabilities to any of the Evochron or Arvoch games but here is hoping that these games will live on for quiet some time.
This video really shows it off, a little old at 2yrs. Wish I still had my original copies of the mechwarrior games…. 🙁
I like all the new ships added to the game, I really need to put this one on my watch list because it has a lot of aspects I like. I take it you bought this one Pinback? How you liking it?
Need to see more gameplay before I can say I am interested but looks interesting if they can figure out a unique way to manage and have fun with your fleet.January 23, 2019 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Descent 8 player split-screen co-op with dxx-rebirth #112452
Been a very long time since I played Descent… I have really never tried dxx-rebirth. Is it leaps and bounds better than the original?
The way Dan Aykroyd is talking he is pretty sure most if not all of the original cast will be in this one, minus Remis since he passed away about 2-3yrs ago now. But even the trailer was done nice to set the feel for the original films. So I look forward to this one and please please don’t mess it up give the fans what we want and not another 2016.January 16, 2019 at 12:25 pm in reply to: Don't you have to stop playing at some point for a game to become retro? #112408
Hey AntiBob, welcome back… Since you were the post starter… I see that the site conversion has some issues with some of the user names. What I will try to do this weekend if I remember is alter the DB slightly to make all your past posts be linked to this new user. (If I forget remind me :))
I think games go retro for me because I rarely have time to play games so by the time I get to them they are many years old. But I have played a few games on DosBox without issue
I didn’t watch all of that stream, is it me or does this seem boring? Granted the concept seems fun, and would be interested in watching a stream with someone playing when there is hundreds of people online playing. Because with this being a multiplayer only game and fighting all in one instance it will be important to have no lag when war is the whole purpose of this game 🙂
It would be nice to know the game session time for a basic game, because at some point there should be a reset of the system you would think since this isn’t a MMO and its universe isn’t as big as EVE. With this all taking place in generated solar system it is important to know the pacing and how fast this game moves.
