I have had a few in the past and I lost a bunch a while back without knowing when a box of old software I sold for like $75 and then I found out it had my entire WC collection of games in there . And I have lost a few over the years because of hard drive failures. Its a shame 3.5 media doesn’t last forever these days because those games are dying fast because those deteriorate fairly quickly.

    This bundle expires on 1/25/2019

That is very interesting idea Geraldine. Just one problem… I don’t know how to set one of those up or any legal ramifications in doing so ๐Ÿ™‚ But I do get the idea that’s for sure, I just don’t see why more developers don’t digitally publish there own games because it is only paying for bandwidth and if your selling games bandwidth isn’t an issue.

I also think before I try to do something like that I might have to move hosting providers because right now SSC does not have a unlimited bandwidth account and I would definitely need one to host a store front or something like that. But I will definitely look into that and maybe see if they would do an affiliate type of situation where I will host a english forum for them and put links up to buy the game.

We’ll see…. thanks for that idea Geraldine.

Unfortunatly no, the devs are long gone. I’m suprised their site and forums are still up even considering how much of a ghost town it is.

Agreed. I have posts that I have posted in 2009 still have no responses ๐Ÿ™‚ It is a shame because you do see people going to the site asking for help. I want to tell them all to just come here. But Provox Games is alive and kicking though this is there next project http://www.provox.hr/games/. It seems like Provox Games is trying there hands at something else other than scifi/space themed games an fantasy RPG.

It’s supposed to have over 80hrs of game play … nice. And it looks to be a standalone expansion that doesn’t need the original to play but does pickup where the SW3 story ends. I haven’t had the time to even play SW3 yet, found it online for 17.99 a few weeks ago.

The comments do have some merit I think Pinback. I seems space combat/sim games are popular in Russia than in USA/EU. But hopefully SSC and the fans can change that over time and supporting the indie devs ๐Ÿ™‚

Even though I would like to see Cold Stars on my PC soon i’m not sure it will happen unless the devs allow the fans to do it. I mean the Precursors was in the same boat until the community did the translation. All we can hope for is that more developers leave certain files editable to the community for them to make changes when the company cannot.

Here is my most recent correspondence on the issue of english conversion or retail release:

    Quote:

    Hi,

There is no one who defined this yet. Russian publisher is pending on

saling project to western publishers. But western publishers are so

woried about overall pc retail game sales, that they do not care a

much of publishing space titles. But chance for CS to be released is

stilll remains in future. Hope for once it should happen.

I look at it this way, if a game developer has a forum they should read it and if possible interact with the community and get an understanding in what they want. What is so hard about that? It’s a real shame to see millions of dollars and years spent making a game that people had a lot of promise for and not really deliver what the community wants.

    Quote:

With the new focus of almost pure combat, is the plan to expand the game (trading/mining/pirating!/etc) at a later date?

Will we expand the game? Yes! However, we have no plans to pursue a mining, trading, pirating game รƒฦ’ร†โ€™รƒโ€šร‚ยขรƒฦ’ร‚ยขรƒยขรขโ€šยฌร…ยกรƒโ€šร‚ยฌรƒฦ’ร‚ยขรƒยขรขโ‚ฌลกร‚ยฌรƒโ€ฆรขโ‚ฌล“ we are a space combat game.

Yes. Players want fast based combat and nice visuals. But after that wears off you are stuck with a game that will not have the little things. Most of the features people want can be added to a combat/war focused game as ‘support’ for the effort. Like I said previous all factions at war need resources, manufacturing and scouting. They don’t need to be dedicated jobs or skills, it just needs to be available to people to do when they want a change from the daily grind of battling.

Another thing about the game I didn’t care for much is the communication between factions. It’s not allowed at all you cannot group, trade or communicate with them. It would be nice least to smack talk your enemy ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope they do change there minds about some of the features in JGE but only time will tell.

Think that would be a HUGE undertaking for Egosoft to dumb down their interface. Personally I wouldn’t mind a more simplified control method because I constantly forget key commands. But with there only being 8 buttons on controllers they might some challenges. But I think they would make money for the effort.

I’m getting around to documenting all the old games in my spare time. I will get them up there sooner or later and those games are in the links area at the least for now. Just so everyone knows the knowledge base area everyone can create articles so please do, it will save me time. Just make sure you use the template ๐Ÿ™‚

I totally forgot about that XWA mod project Savuporo thanks for mentioning it again and I will make sure it gets into the KB when I get to it.

    Thanks for this info ZeroG!

I like SpaceForce myself and play it a lot actually because I like the visuals and the combat is decent. Yeah the story is iffy. If the devs would have just supported the game a little it would have helped keep the community engaged.

ZeroG you have any of your notes documented on what you can and cannot mod in SFRU? It would be nice to start a thread in this area or even a knowledge base article so that knowledge isn’t lost ๐Ÿ™‚

But if you have a blog post a link or make a new post so we can read about your efforts. Because there are some fans of the game left.

Don’t quote me on this but I thought I read in the FAQ or something that the game takes place in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. So my guess would be that planets are out and you should have asteroids-a-plenty ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, we will be just a tick on that clock someday (hopefully not soon). Technology wise Geraldine I don’t think we are even close to what we would need to have to really colonize another world. Yeah we could create some outposts. But a Outpost that could hold 100,000 to 1,000,000 people…. no way. We would run into the same issue as Earth, food and water. Until we can terraform a world I think we are stuck here. And we would also need the means to leave our own galaxy. Because right now colonizing Venus/Mercury is out, way to hot. And Mars we might be able to live there if we can raise the temps of the planet since they range from 1F to -178F. All food would have to be grown indoors and we couldn’t rely on the planet surface for anything, well maybe the ice for water.

I know we could do it if we were focused on it. I mean c’mon the iPad has more power in it than the Apollo lander had, and that went to the moon. Most of the worlds greatest technology innovations have happened during wartime or tensions between countries. It’s unfortunate that the only way humans accelerate innovation is when there lives are at risk ๐Ÿ™‚
