It was kicked around in both Infinity and JGE that asteriods will server more of a purpose instead of mining so maybe that wish may come true. I know there could be asteriods where you could hideout or even make a small base/station in the cave. That would be something great right there.
I know I would really like to see space take its toll on your ship and systems. Get too close to the sun or a nebula and it starts to degrade your systems or hull. It would just add a lot more realism to the sim. They said in Infinity that your ship will get dirty and show sinces of age over time 😉 I like that.
Thanks and Welcome to SSC. Hope you enjoy the site and always needing info so if you find a community project or info on mods just let us know about them so we can get them documented and checked out.
Look forward to your posts and insights on Space Sims.
Hows the compatibility with mods Bas?
Don’t forget new episodes start next week.
What time table you looking at Xaron for your first alpha release for people to play with?
No kidding…. better get your generators and PC and space sim collection together because we are going to have to whether the storm since Space Sim production might fall behind a bit 🙂s20dan wrote:I for one am for the 1000s of Billions of stars. And the fact that no-one will ever be able to see them all is the whole point of a game like this. It means exploration is a viable means to success in the game.
Think Frontier First Encounters, but with secrets in the galaxy, the ability to own multiple ships and stations and perhaps even colonies of your own, more diverse planets that actually look like real planets and of course other players in the galaxy 🙂
I am not against a universe with billions of stars I just don’t want it to be empty space with 1-3 planets per system and a space station. I want to have plenty of NPC pirate factions, hundreds of NPC races both peaceful and hostile, space wreckage from hundreds/thousands of years ago still drifting in space and things like that. Personally what would keep me playing Infinity for the long haul is exploration and just being able to do what you were able to do in Elite.s20dan wrote:
There was talk on the forums a while back about the inclusion of ground vehicles and ground assaults on colonies. And players could initiate or take part in battles like that, either from a ship or on the ground.
But as far as I know, that particular feature will not be included at release, It is hard to find all the official comments on the game and all its features.
This would be a nice twist and add to the game play. Is that official?Fald wrote:To add to s20dan’s point: you will find most players will not stray too far from the core because making a living on your own out in the middle of nowhere is boring.
So most players I beleive will have a high tendency to frequent the same few hundred systems.
I would think so at first to get your feel for the game. But I now I would want to start the deep space exploration. But we’ll have to see if we will be able to do that with current low end ships. Or will the fuel and jump distance be an issue for deep space travel.
Yeah no kidding. I don’t mind not having a demo as long as the games beta process is open to a lot of people so the reviews and feedback can hit the web. I hardly ever just by a game on good faith…. well I probably would if a WC6 or FL2 came out suddenly 😯
So I guess I will wait to buy The Tomorrow War until I read Pinback’s review 😆
Still downloading the files from the SVN using Tortoise. When it is done Dan can I just run some type of installer or do I have to compile something?
With work, family and a new website 😉 I am lucky to get 6-10hrs per week.
Thanks for posting this Dan. I knew about this one just never got around to posting a little something on it.
I know. I-War2 was too advanced for its time and unfortunately got great reviews but never got the big exposure other space sim titles during that time frame got. Makes me want to load it up but not sure how it will run on my Vista box since I haven’t tried it yet.
I haven’t been able to register on their website and they don’t post updated links on the Iwar2 site. I am willing to host the mod but no one every responds to my requests on the Iwar2 site.
So if you have a link I can download and upload to my download area here or you can upload it to the Iwar Mod area 🙂
-D1-Quote:Jumpgate Evolution will also offer both the casual gamer and those who play for hours a day a rewarding and balanced experience. Hermann explains, “You have to make sure there are rewards that are short term and rewards that are long term. As an example, leveling at the beginning especially, is a very short term kind of reward – you level up, you get new equipment, you get new ships. We have a reasonably elaborate medal system. For example, maybe you’ll get a medal for destroying ten enemy ships of a certain faction. Then there’s other medals that require you to kill a hundred thousand of these things, or accomplish much more difficult tasks.” Faction ratings, PvP points and other risk versus rewards will help provide an enjoyable game for any player.
I want to see what this medal system is about and the risk/rewards given out when medals are gained. This could be a nice little system to reward people in different ways. Nice job!
I know that sounded a bit large to me and your comments made a lot of sense. I mean I understand the whole huge universe and everything, but Infinity has a lot of promise and I would hate to see it be a victum of its on hype. Darkfall ran into this issue and they are being bashed for it right now with server issues and content etc…
With all the comments and hype that people say about Infinity it can give you a false sense of what to expect. Yes people should wait on official comments but people speculate and that can be either positive or negative.
A large universe in a Elite style MMO game is needed and wanted but people today are not like 20yrs ago. the bar has been raised on all games in general and if people don’t see the few things they want they consider it a failure nowadays.
I have a huge respect for the indie developers out there that work tirelessly on a game to just give it away most of the time. And it seems that those games get judged at the same level as a pay to play game.
I don’t want the world of Infinity to be empty space with no activity because that will turn so many people away after a few weeks of playing. So big worlds are nice as long as you fill them with things to do or communicate with.CaptainKal wrote:Quote:
No invitation to the closed beta or the beta hasn’t even started?
As far as i know it hasn’t started yet.
I tried that game out for a bit but not sure if it is for me. I really don’t like the controls for that game. I know it is Beta but with a bit of polish Pirate Galaxy will do well.
Man it’s almost April and still no info on the JGE Beta….?
Hope the hyperspace jump wasn’t too long to get here 🙂
Thanks for checking the site out Fald and hope to see ya in the forums and if you come across any mods, community projects, indie games that are related to the space game genre please do let us know.
Oh and here is the promotion part of my post…. make sure to tell a friend about us 🙂
They don’t have a demo do they? I have been reading some mixed reviews on this one.spelk wrote:Modular ship design is a very important point, because if you can build your own ship, it personalises the game much more for you, rather than having a selection of fixed ships, you could tweak a basic hull, and add what you want, where you want.. and come out with a completely unique ship for yourself. The basic hull’s hardpoints would be fixed, but the standard equipment and loadout modules could be manipulated how you want it. This is exemplified in Evochron Legends, where you can select from hulls, but not only is the physical placement of the components set by you, but also the size and scale of the components, so you can take cargo bays and engines and squeeze and stretch them, expand wingspans compact fuel pods.. you can even colour your ship. I think in most free-form open ended space sim games, there should be this level of customisation available to really endear you to your craft. Having templates to store the designs and swap the designs readily with other players is also a very cool option. In fixed storyline or mission based games, perhaps the ship designs are much more rigid in terms of looks for an artistic or lore direction, however, even then I’d say the ability to select different variants on the same modules would give it some variety, so you could still feel a part of the ship design and building process.
With the latest Renegades Legends patch it has everything you just spoke of for customization of the ship. Strange how we get this type of customization from a single developer and not the bigger development efforts. I agree with Spelk that ship customizations are a big deal to make you feel unique.
