    I “abused” the animation for certain stations even i didn’t feel really comfortable with them, they are useless imo and as you stated they won’t be affected by the stardreamer (i guess the robot can stay but the shuttles are really not to see if you don’t go close to them).

    That’s a shame as I quite like them. Good fun watching the little vehicles buzzing along the roads!

    @AndyJ – I agree with you about not repackaging your work and making it available for download. It should be an optional extra, though it’s pretty much indispensable!

    Regarding showcase videos, again I understand your position but, let’s face it, we probably all have installations of FFED3DAJ with elements which look different to each other. Examples are ships, buildings, starports and the cockpit. Then there’s the various textures – including those provided by Nanite2000 – the in-game text font and even the way the skybox is rendered. What I’m getting at is that I’m not sure there is a “classic” FFED3DAJ look any more, with so many mods and config variables available.

    @Gernot66 – IMHO the best way for you to proceed is to make zip files of your new ship and building models available for download (OneDrive and DropBox are good) so that Commanders can add them as and when they want to their install. That should keep everyone happy 🙂

    Hmm, that bit about clicking just below the icons makes me think you’re running a (very) old version of FFED3D. The only version worth running is AndyJ’s (FFED3DAJ). There’s a post here which explains what you need to do. Running any other version will just drive you mad due to the bugs which have now been fixed.

    From your cockpit view, press F3 to bring up the galaxy map. Then press F6 to bring up the orbital screen for the system you’re in. Zoom in to the location you want to go to, so you can read the text label, then press T and click on that location.

    There are icon equivalents for the above buttons as well.

    I thought this bug had been squashed in v1.11 but, according to AndyJ, it can be fixed by setting preoptimizedDistantDivides=0 in your ffed3daj.cfg file. This may reduce frame rates around planets though.

    Just a reminder that the game is available from the download area – under FFED3D.

    The index of files might look a bit intimidating, but what you need to do, to get straight in to running the latest version, is…

    1. Download FFED3D_Complete.7z and extract it to a new folder (might as well call it FFED3D)
    2. Download FFED3DAJ_v1.11.zip FFED3DAJ_v1.11_CoreFiles.zip and FFED3DAJ_v1.01_ExampleSkins.zip
    3. Extract the contents of those three zips to your FFED3D folder, overwriting when asked
    4. Double-click on the FFED3DAJ file to run the game!

    From there you can download other files, such as the bulletin board videos, or cockpit graphics, as desired.

    Remember, this is the latest version of FFED3DAJ, until Andy releases v1.12 anyway (hint hint!)

    ADMIN: Any reason I can’t post to the New FFED3D builds from Ittiz & AndyJ thread? The site keeps forgetting I’m logged in…

    Yes, the recent change to the colour scheme has improved the look in several areas. Also, I view the forum at 133% zoom in my browser, which helps too. Firefox remembers this each time I visit 🙂

    I flagged this up purely because SSC had gone from being a site I used to visit on a daily basis to one I really struggle with. Of course, Real Life issues take priority 🙂

    Actually, it’s only reading the site on my phone/tablet that has improved. On my PC it’s as unreadable as ever! 🙁

    Right, gonna spend some time getting those save games ready this weekend. I had some computer problems in the week, specifically everything overheating and the machine shutting down. I took the heat sink off the CPU and cleaned all the dust out, cleaned the fan as well and put it all back together with a nice new splodge of thermal paste. SpeedFan now reports that the computer is cooler than a polar bear wearing sunglasses B)

    OK, I’m working through the game and compiling a set of hand-coded mission saves, as you mention above. I’m not using Buffet to advance the game time, as I’m not sure what side-effects it might have. The process is therefore taking a little bit of time, not helped by Real Life™ getting in the way recently. I’m making good progress though 🙂

    I think you’re on to something there Andy, and unfortunately it looks like extending the commander’s life beyond January 3317 causes a number of issues with the game. Even using Buffet to advance a few years can cause problems with the journals 🙁
    Here’s what I tried…

    I went back to the Gateway start position at 1-Jan 3250 and equipped my ship/commander with how things are in my latest save game. At that point you have 11 subscriptions to each of the journals. You can buy subscriptions to Frontier News, Universal Scientist and RIG at Old Blackelk. When I used Buffet to jump to 2-Apr-3321 I found I had 153390771 subscriptions left! Advancing to the next monthly update reset them all to “No subscription” and they were all blank.

    I bought a subscription to one of the journals and jumped to the next update. The story picked up at a point I assume the program found was appropriate. Frontier News, Universal Scientist and RIG were still the only journals available and this was the case wherever I went.

    I started again in 3250, bought 10-year subscriptions and jumped forwards 5 years. Those publications for which I hadn’t bought extra subscriptions ie. they’d run out gave silly values until the next update when they zeroed. Those which I still had valid subscriptions to updated but only by one month. For example, the Frontier News referred to “last month’s Wiccan Ware race” which actually takes place in Jan/Feb 3250. By flying around I was able to buy subscriptions to all the journals.

    In relation to your point about the two journals that always appear having more issues left in my subscription, they only way I can think of to “zero” them is to advance a crazy number of years and update. When I did this they reset ok but those two journals were still the only ones that were offered anywhere, and that blasted “Jo Merion” ad stil popped up everywhere too!

    In conclusion, it seems using Buffet to advance time can mess up the journals to some degree, but going beyond 3317 renders some publications permanently unavailable.

    I’ve decided to go back to 1-Jan 3250 (by re-starting the game, not using Buffet!) with everything else the same. Might even try out some of the scripted missions! Should be a lot easier now, in my super-Viper B)

    I will undertake further investigations but for the mean time hope this helps, Andy…
