@  McAule : (25 August 2016 - 05:30 AM) @sscadmin that buundle is good for soundtracks at least.
@  Geraldine : (25 August 2016 - 04:40 AM) Wondeful (1930s travel style) JPL posters there Pinback :girlcrazy:
@  Cody : (24 August 2016 - 04:17 PM) <nods sagely>
@  Artlav : (24 August 2016 - 03:01 PM) Anyway, i would love to see them pull this off...
@  Artlav : (24 August 2016 - 03:01 PM) Now you see it, now you don't. Would take hell of a timing to snap any pictures.
@  Artlav : (24 August 2016 - 03:00 PM) A swarm of 1000s of these probes can help with lucking out, but then what do you think passing within a Moon's distance from a planet oa 0.2c looks like?
@  Artlav : (24 August 2016 - 03:00 PM) I only got within about 30AU, from where the planets would be invisible for a tiny camera.
@  Artlav : (24 August 2016 - 02:58 PM) I really wonder how they would guide the thing - i tried that trick in Spaceway, and hitting a star just 1 ly away at 0.2c is not easy even with near-omniscient tools.
@  Artlav : (24 August 2016 - 02:47 PM) TL;DR: Accelerate a gram-mass probes to 0.2c using giant laser and a light sail, send them to nearest stars.
@  Artlav : (24 August 2016 - 02:47 PM) So, that raises the question of whether Breakthrough-Starshot is plausible or not - https://breakthrough...rg/Initiative/3
@  NevilClavain : (24 August 2016 - 02:24 PM) Proxima Centauri has now a rocky planet : http://www.popularme...anet-proxima-b/
@  PINBACK : (24 August 2016 - 12:54 PM) Free posters to download from JPL http://www.jpl.nasa....-of-the-future/ I like the grand tour one.
@  sscadmin : (24 August 2016 - 08:03 AM) @Aki I devert some of the stations power to the long range comms to make sure we can reach everywhere :) haha
@  sscadmin : (24 August 2016 - 08:03 AM) @McAule saw that bundle, I didn't advertise it because it didn't look exciting to me :)
@  Cody : (23 August 2016 - 07:00 PM) Turns on, tunes in... and drops out!
@  Aki : (23 August 2016 - 06:36 PM) It's not just "chatbox". It is "Long Range CommLink" :P
@  Artlav : (23 August 2016 - 05:31 PM) Oh, cool. A chatbox.
@  McAule : (23 August 2016 - 03:27 PM) The Sci-fi Bundle #2 https://groupees.com/scifi2
@  Cody : (22 August 2016 - 04:42 PM) Snap!
@  Geraldine : (22 August 2016 - 04:34 PM) He has indeed I am sure the new book will be wonderful as Drew is a damn fine author. :queen: Also (with regards to the present topic) you could always have a listen to the Dimension X stories. There is loads of em on You Tube like this one, it's old school 50s sci-fi at it's best:
@  Cody : (22 August 2016 - 04:24 PM) I see Drew has been commissioned by FD to write the next official ED novel.
@  Geraldine : (22 August 2016 - 04:17 PM) Oh! And the first sci-fi book I recall reading was a short story by Arthur C Clark called "The Sentinel" which was the forerunner of 2001: A Space Odyssey
@  Geraldine : (22 August 2016 - 04:12 PM) Or how about the Oolite Saga? http://www.drewwagar...oks/oolitesaga/
@  auryx : (22 August 2016 - 03:10 PM) Got it! "Now to the Stars", by Captain W.E. Johns
@  auryx : (22 August 2016 - 03:06 PM) I can even picture the cover! Dammit, this is going to annoy me all night..... :-)
@  auryx : (22 August 2016 - 02:57 PM) I'm sure my dad bought me an obscure paperback one when I was very young.....what was it.....
@  auryx : (22 August 2016 - 02:57 PM) Hmm, first sci-fi novel I read - now that's an interesting question!
@  Cody : (22 August 2016 - 02:51 PM) The Mars Trilogy is excellent - as is KSR's earlier novel Icehenge (not to mention Antarctica).
For a different style, try Allen Steele's Coyote - about colonising an exoplanet's moon.
@  Geraldine : (22 August 2016 - 02:08 PM) Well if we are all talking books, I have a few. First up the Kim Stanley Robinson Mars Trilogy: Red, Green and Blue Mars. Secondly, Encounter With Tiber by Buzz Aldrin & John Barnes. Both hard sci-fi books with lots of real science in them.
@  Cody : (22 August 2016 - 10:40 AM) Shambleau - very early (1933) Sci-Fi starring Northwest Smith, interplanetary adventurer and smuggler (who may well have been the inspiration for the Han Solo character). One sentence from Shambleau inspired Heinlein to The Green Hills of Earth - one of my favourite Sci-Fi shorts. Both free to download or read there on-screen. Gotta love the Internet Archive - an awesome resource!
@  McAule : (22 August 2016 - 05:27 AM) My first one was Isaac Asimov "The Foundation" about 20 years ago :)
@  Bouitaz : (22 August 2016 - 01:35 AM) Time sure does fly, eh Cody? I read my first Sci-Fi novel 25 years ago. Gateway by Frederik Pohl in his Heeche Saga series.
@  Cody : (21 August 2016 - 05:27 PM) One of Heinlein's juveniles - Tunnel in the Sky.
@  leondhay : (21 August 2016 - 05:15 PM) What the novel Cody. <Hi auryx>
@  Cody : (21 August 2016 - 12:11 PM) I read my first Sci-Fi novel over fifty years ago! <waves at auryx>
@  auryx : (21 August 2016 - 11:31 AM) Good evening, privateers!
@  Jan : (21 August 2016 - 08:20 AM) http://gfycat.com/Sa...eBoaconstrictor
@  elaxter : (20 August 2016 - 11:32 PM) No Man's Sky made a good deal of people bitter and caused them to search for other sims.
@  sscadmin : (20 August 2016 - 05:01 PM) @theAntiBob Sci-Fi will live for ever
@  Geraldine : (20 August 2016 - 04:47 PM) About bloody time! :girlcrazy:
@  theAntiBob : (20 August 2016 - 04:17 AM) Hey, do you guys feel that? It's SciFi making a comeback!
@  Phaserlight : (19 August 2016 - 08:34 AM) Awesome, Cody
@  JynxNysa : (19 August 2016 - 05:29 AM) Hi everyyone i am new here, do you have a teamspeak or something like that?
@  elaxter : (18 August 2016 - 06:11 PM) does anyone know if you can make your own personal player portrait in pioneer?
@  Cody : (18 August 2016 - 10:56 AM) Yeah, Oolite is pretty good - try it, the game is mature, stable, and free!
@  elaxter : (18 August 2016 - 09:20 AM) Is oolite good? I was looking at that and it looks pretty good
@  sscadmin : (18 August 2016 - 09:11 AM) @elaxter I played early alpha of Pioneer, I haven't actually picked it up since and I know it has changed greatly in three years since I last played it. But I have like 400 games on my steam account and trying to keep up with space games I just don't have time :) hehe I will pickup Pioneer again when it reaches beta.
@  elaxter : (18 August 2016 - 09:03 AM)
@  elaxter : (18 August 2016 - 09:02 AM) I see. I made a post but I was just wondering if anyone here in chat played it. thanks for the advice though!
@  sscadmin : (18 August 2016 - 08:57 AM) @elaxter A lot of people do, the best bet is post in the Pioneer forum area so you get the right people answering :)
