To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Looks like Elite Dangerous Arena will be free to whomever adds it to their Steam account by Monday (7/11) and you will be able to keep and play it forever... or until it gets shutdown 😉

The ratings on Steam are not the best on this game and if I am reading this right you already have access to Arena if you already own Elite Dangerous.

Yea, Arena is what used to be Elite's "CQC" mode. It looks like its becoming popular to segment out the mutiplayer parts of a game for sale separately; Humble Bundle is currently offering a similar thing (the multiplayer pvp only) for one of the Call of Duty games.

CQC/Arena is fun. I'd recommend a good joystick or at least an XBox Pad to play it. The biggest problem with Arena is that its fighting against Elite for your play time; when I have time to play Elite, I play Elite! Though its a good way to test your combat skills against players without risking your "heavy investment" open world ship.

This is, in essence, exactly what "Arena Commander" is in the current Star Citizen setup.

Do I recommend it? Well, if you don't have Elite: Dangerous then its definitely worth the click to add it to your Steam library for free.
