You may be right with this DiabloTigerSix but I've always favored hand made sectors rather than procedurally generated ones because they have more and better quality content in them.

Time will tell how these 2 games will be, too bad we still have to wait a few years for that, which is soooooooo long.

I believe Elite should have no trouble reaching its goal. The question is, where is the sum going to be 2 months from now? $3 million maybe?

well they done have pretty good in there first week, over 400.000 http://www.kicktraq....lite-dangerous/ if you look the data from that site they expect them to get between 3 and 9 million despite having one of the worst kickstart pages.

I too reckon Elite: Dangerous will hit its target - easily, in fact! I don't think the 'quality' of their Kickstarter page, or the lack of in-game vid, matters one jot - people have been waiting for this particular game for so long, and I expect DB will deliver a quality product. A prediction - how about 20/09/14 as the official full release date?

Most people are correct in what they say about the KS page being a bit bare.

But everyone knows exactly what Elite is aimed at in all but the details. Which is a lot more than most projects.

Disappointed because of the lack of information on the Kickstarter page

"I will develop Elite IV, give me all the money you can spare." Would have been enough for me to pledge on this game.

However, I have expected an earlier reply to the enormous success of the project. 3 days seemed a little too much. Nevertheless --> <--

I see that on the kickstart forum DB has said that he intend to more active.

Thanks for all the support, and I hear the concerns too - apologies for not being on here as much as I should.

More updates are planned, as are pledge upgrades, and info on multiplayer, procedural techniques to be used, ships and ship design; essentially there is a lot to come.

He has also answered a question about ship interiors .

Quote:
Kerrash - interiors in those ships are hand-crafted, but done so out of modules.

Sound interesting.

Elite's only a third of the way there and that after a massive boost from the BBC putting it on their new page - I think it's touch and go if they make the other two thirds. I think Star Citizen is a factor in them not growing faster. Strike Suit Zero has also made their goal and will ship soonest. I backed all 3.

Contributions have been dropping off since the weekend probably because they not saying much, guess we will have to wait till Fridays update.

Although they have updated their FAQ big surprise is about the DRM

Quote:
Yes, the game code will not include DRM (Digital Rights Management), but there will be server authentication when you connect for multiplayer and/or updates and to synchronise with the server.

Or is that a DRM by another name?.

Just check my email and there was this from Kickstarter

Quote:
Many thanks for everyone's continued support. Today we've added some new FAQ entries, describing multiplayer in more detail, griefing and a few other things. More to come tomorrow.

So we might be getting an update tomorrow.

Server authentication only for multiplayer. As you need to be online anyway to play multiplayer, I can live with this. Single player will be DRM free and thats great news

Yup just use this <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Now Elite does have a history and name recognition going for it, but that really only works for the people that know what Elite is and maybe have played it before. If I go ask my 15yr old saying that a new Elite is coming out he will think it is some sort of content update for Modern Warfare or Black Ops. Best bet, is to re-introduce Elite to the young gamer. Plus you would want to do this any way because they won't be as hard to please as us old folks that want Elite to be a certain way and if its not we will be disgruntled. So I hope a few videos and pics can be shown for the game to really describe and show off to the new generation of Elite gamers what it truly means to be Elite.

They definitely need to work on that.

new vid and some more concept art on the Kickstarter site.

Talks a lot about Procedural generation but does show some clouds now there something I have going on about for years . <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//cool.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//cool.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

hear hear Pinback and Geraldine.

I too have been raving on about procedural generation in programming for year. There is a boost in activity on the page and according to David's comments I think there will be ANOTHER update tomorrow.....goodness can we REALLY be that fortunate ? WOW !!!?

And yes Geraldine the DRM issue is the best I could have hoped for. It does not punish LEGITIMATE users with installing all kinds of crap, constant internet connection etc. It looks very similar to the minecraft model. You want multiplayer you need to log in, fair enough. You want an update ? You need to login to get it fair enough. You want to take your laptop in the middle of nowhere with no connections to play ? Well you CAN.

WIN WIN WIN WIN

Only 30 minutes to go on day 50 as I type this. Of course just like everyone else I'll feel better when we are at 50% and obviously as it rises. I won't look at the trending on kicktraq because it looks a little scary. Too early to tell yet, I'm trying not to be scared, not to look at the stats too much but still drooling over the amazing updates.

I'm ignoring the horrible comments people make on the kickstarter page goodness there are some idiots on there.

I'll see you all at the LAVE bar on Jan 4th !!!! Libations for eeeeee-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I think they are doing reasonable. Lot of first time kickstarters joining up and that's the absolute hardest.

My guess the big jump at the start was all the resident kickstarter addicts going ooo new project bloody hell its Elite.

They have dropped of this week according to this chart http://www.kicktraq....us/#chart-daily but did spike yesterday after the video was posted so these updates do have an effect on pledges.

Interesting post on Brian Rubin blog http://www.spacegame...ce Game Junkie)

The price of the pledges is some thing I have been wondering about myself, are they set too high for what they are offering especially for anyone out side of the Uk.

I'm quite happy with the way it's going.

Think a lot of the star citizen crew will come across and its not half way in and they've got 11,000 backers already. Thats a hell of a lot of people willing to put money in.

Still going to be tough as all the easily convinced registered members are signed up already so new ones tend to be new to the site.

Really enjoying the process though.

I've seen nothing to indicate that this will succeed. If you watch the 'backer-number' you will see it goes down pretty regularly. Alot of people are backing out, not huge amounts, but its a slow trickle over days. I really can't see them making their goal in relation to other kickstarters. Its a shame, but it makes sense. I've never met anyone my age who has heard of the Elite titles. Whats more, my generation is based on GAMEPLAY, most Elite fans go on and on about planets and realistic space physics. I can't convey how little I or my group of gaming friends cares about these things.

While DB seems excited, I still have that little voice in the back of my head that says he will drop this when it fails. There is a reason he let the IP utterly DIE over the last decade, and if this doesn't work out, I don't see him trying Elite without crowd-funding. The kickstarter also feels really rushed. Without gameplay or something to show, you really cant have a successful KS, look at Star Citizen. They walked in with bold claims yes, but they did it with something to show. Outside of some concept art and a cloud engine, DB has utterly nothing to show. I don't believe they've been working on it long at all.

However, these are just my opinions, and I was the guy who just shook his head when he read about Elite IV. I'd love to be proven wrong.
