To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I enjoyed the first one, and from the looks of this, I may get it when it comes out. Every time I see something for Deus Ex, or System Shock 2, though, it reminds me of Syndicate. I think that would be a cool game for an up-to-date sequel.

I would be even more happy to see a remake of the original Deus Ex, only thing it needs is a facelift and maybe some story enhancements. System Shock would be a good game to see again.

Now its debating which platform to play on PC or console? I might get this for the PC hoping that there will be some mods for DE3.

It has to be the PC. You would need fast reactions to cope with the combat. I have been recently doing a Halo 2 PC vs XBox comparison and I am hopeless at the console version. Also you are correct about the mods. There is so much backstory in the Deus Ex game, eg the secessionist war that has only been hinted at or the dropped moonbase levels from the original games. All I hope now is it plays as good as it looks and prepare to upgrade my PC again. Last time I upgraded my computer for a game, Frontier had just come out..... 😆

I agree, but most people are the opposite.. finding console easy and pc hard. Its why there are so few of us percentage wise. (pc gamers)

I don't really know much about this sequel to be honest. Is it meant to be anything like the original, or more like the 2nd game?

While I really liked the 2nd game, I found that they had removed a lot of the choices evident in the first game.

Square Enix says they are really trying to create the cult following for DE3 that DE1 received and they are going to really try to please a wider audience with it, I have always liked the comments that DE3 will be designed in a way that you never have to kill anyone to play to the end. Deus Ex is all about a great story and the gadgets, which Square Enix always writes some good stories so we'll see what they do with the rest. More than likely I will get PC version because I am always more accurate with the mouse/keyboard than I am with controller.

Some info on SE and Pre-Orders:

Quote:

Square Enix has announced pre-order bonuses and an "Augmented Edition" for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The Augmented Edition is "augmented" with a 40-page artbook; a bonus DVD with trailers, trailer storyboards, a making-of featurette, and the soundtrack; a motion comic; and, of course, a fancy box to hold it all. It will be released at a $69.99 price point for Xbox 360 and PS3, and $59.99 for PC.

The two pre-order bonus packs each contain a selection of new in-game weapons, all with impressive-sounding names. The GameStop-exclusive "Explosive Mission Pack" comes with a mission featuring "a special cameo appearance of original Deus Ex character," along with the Linebacker G-87 Grenade Launcher and the M-28 Utility Remote-Detonated Explosive Device (yes, "UR-DED"), while the "Tactical Enhancement Pack" offered at unspecified "participating retailers" includes the Longsword Whisperhead Suppressed Extreme Range Sniper Rifle and the Huntsman Silverback Double-Barrel Shotgun. Both include "extra credits for augmentations and upgrades."

Looks like 2011 is going to be a great year! 🙂 Now the decision of which Augmented pack to go for 😕 The Tracer Tong mission in pack one is appealing and that extreme range sniper rifle in pack two is also good.......... I want both damn it! 👿

It's on my TO BUY list once I have fully completed Fallout New Vegas. Plus by then patches would have been released to fix any issues.

Here is a review:

I have yet to play the current release, but I would have to agree it was just amazing. I really enjoyed augmenting my character and also playing the character I wanted... did a lot of stealth and sneaking. The story was also very good. It would be nice to see some of the classics comeback but just with a facelift and no other tampering, unless it was to fix bugs.

I snagged DE3 from the recent Steam sale, unfortunately I have reached my download limit for this month, so I will have to wait until February to play it 👿

And yes the original was superb so this new game has a lot to live up to.

Ok 🙄

Finally managed to download Deus Ex HR from Steam. I have the Augmented Edition. So what is it like?

Pretty rubbish is what I would say. The frame rate is awful, the sound stutters and I have a half decent Win 7 64 bit rig too. This game badly needs patched, but checking on the Steam forums, the consensus there is that there is little chance of Square Enix stepping up to the mark. Some even commenting that it is one of the worst ports they have ever seen. However all is not lost! The wonderful Deus Ex community (as ever) are not easily put off, and already a fan made patch has appeared. I have not tried it out yet as I am backing up my install first, but if you want to give it a try, you can find it here:

http://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewt ... p?f=2&t=12

So should you buy it? You pays your money and takes your chance. Some report being able to run it with no difficulties, but I have noticed that most of these claims come from people with top of the range setups. I would place my rig about the high side of mid range which is good enough for things like Crysis, Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 1 & 2 on max or near max settings.

There might be a good game to be found under all these bugs, but isnt it sad that a big dev like Square Enix cant do the decent thing and fix their game?

Of course I cannot comment on what the console versions are like. They might be fine for all I know, put the PC version is woeful.

Yes, I am not happy at all! 👿

Now going for a lie down in a darkened room. I can't believe the 3rd DE was an even bigger screw up than the second one 😥

This is actually quite concerning, because I held Square Enix as one of the good developers out there. With all the advertising and hype they put around the game why wouldn't they patch it? I know I thought about getting the PS3 version in a few more months when its cheap and hopefully been patched :). At least the community is stepping in to fix some issues, but this will hurt SQ bottomline soon. Especially since they have FF13-2 coming very shortly and now I might think twice before I buy it day one.

What's hard about the simple concept of supporting your game (for atleast 6-8mos)? This way in that time I'm sure some DLC would come out and people would buy it because they have received regular patches and support for their game. Shame you had this experience with Deus Ex Geraldine because I had some high hopes for it and I look for a more in-depth review hopefully if you decide to play it all the way through if you can 🙂

My advice to you Darkone is to take your time and go around some PS3 forums and find out if there is any issues with the game on that platform. I would guess though that the console versions would be fine since the PC version has a whiff of "bad console port" about it. As for me, I applied the community patch and it helped a little. Even the people who created the patch admit that they will have to update it as they go.

I am very despondent though as I had been looking forward to this game in a long long while. I have started a support ticket with Square Enix detailing everything I came across, but I wont hold my breath after reading some of the stuff on the Steam forums. 😕

I suppose there is a bright side to all of this, at least its not Elite IV! 😆

EDIT: Contacted Square Enix and they are looking into the problem. If they give me a solution I will update my post. Watch this space.

EDIT MkII: Ok 🙄 I have had a devil of a time. After more or less constant emailing between myself and Square Enix, I updated all my drivers and the bios on my ASUS mobo. And now the game will not run at all! I tried downgrading my bios again but the little utility I use wont let you go back 👿

Anyways, to cut a long story short, Square Enix think it's a combination of me having an AMD FX CPU and using the Steam version of the game. They could be right here as since the bios update Duke Nukem Forever refuses to run too................

Think I will just go back to playing Pioneer and Oolite, life is happier that way.

At last! A new Bios update fixed it! 😀 AMD FX CPUs can now run Deus Ex HR, at least with ASUS mobos. Although now that I have had a chance to actually play it, the original is still the best Deus Ex game ever. This third one is not bad though, "worthy" is the word I would use and a heck of a lot better than the second one.

Are there any mods for this game that can improve it at all or fix issues? I know from your past post that Square Enix has been slow on getting the patches out there.

Still no sign of patches from Square Enix Darkone, but some mods have started to appear. There is one to remove the gold tint to everything. However it only works for Nvidia based cards. If your like me and have an ATI based card, your out of luck. Here is a link for it

http://enbdev.com/download_en.htm

Another is the Gibbed Mod pack that allows you to skip intros and allows access to a debug menu for cheating. Here is a link http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/deus ... 39536.html

Its still early days on the mod front, I am sure many more will appear for the game in time as the DE fan base is massive. One I would like to see is a 100% non lethal way to play the game. You still have to kill the bosses at present which is annoying. In the original game it was fun facing Walton Simons again toward the end of the game. The devs dropped the ball with the boss battles in DE HR. They would have been fine for any other shooter type game but not Deus Ex 🙄

Another mod I would like to see would be a total conversion of the first game to the new game's engine. Now that would be cool.

More Deus Ex HR news, a Directors Cut version (with changed boss fights) is coming out on the WiiU and a new mobile game called Deus Ex The Fall is also being released. Have a look here for details. I wonder if there will be a patch for the Boss Fights for the existing HR versions on the XBox, PS3 and PC?
