To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Wasteland and the possible Wasteland 2 don't take place in space but they are futuristic and apocalyptic in game play and for those that remember the first one it was a great game and the original developer (Brian Fargo) want to make a sequel that the fans have been asking for, for 20+ yrs now. He helped develop some of the all time greats of rpg's: Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Bards Tale series, Wasteland, Fallout 1&2 and more that I am forgetting.

Check out the kickstarter page here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2

They are looking to fund $900k and they are already a 34% to the goal. So this game wants to be made so lets see if we can make it happen.

Well in two days the Wasteland 2 kickstarter program has exceeded the $900k goal and is over $1.2mil. Not bad at all, guess there is some people that remember the great games these devs worked on and they want to make this the way the fans want it. If the kickstarter reaches $1.5mil it will be made for both Linux and Mac OS as well. I cannot wait to see this game in action. Oh this was the largest ever kickstarter program as well and has to be a record for raising that much money that quickly for a game.

I liked this post from Brian Fargo:

One friend of mine who worked with me there said recently he felt that in the beginning of the industry all the nerds were in charge, but then as the industry grew it changed, and now the guys that picked on the nerds got back on top. I think there was some great truth to that. We all hope this movement is bigger than just Tim Schafer or Brian Fargo as we want to get power back into the developers hands again. And the unbelievable Indie scene shows that there is momentum in that direction. The development community continues to pull itself together to ensure their success. They share tools, they share statistics, they share ideas, and the biggest donators in Kickstarter are always developers. All of this reminds me of the freshness the industry had in the late 80′s through mid 90′s in which creativity was being directed only by the gamers. The gamers will always rule at the end of the day.

I believe that kickstarter is only the beginning of a new era of games development funding. Instead of relying on distributors and possibly being turned down, devs ask the public for funding assistance to make their products with a good chance of achieving their funding goal. Its very heartening to see kickstarter fund so many games.

I thought they already said that in the kickstarter? But that is good news anyway, I was hoping they would give a facelift to the original and package it with the game. Doubtful but one can hope 🙂

I still haven't got around to playing this game (I do own it - its on the to do list) but you can now get the Directors Cut for free for the next 44hrs on GOG, so if you don't have this one you might want to check it out.

Heads up that Wasteland 3 is coming next year as well.
