To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Before EVE became the standard in Space MMORPGs, EA tried its luck in the MMORPG arena with Eath & Beyond. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_%26_Beyond . Saddly the game was cancelled a few years back. But some very bright and clever fans, brought it back from the place that cancelled games go. And not only that but it can also be played as a single player game.So next stop Earth & Beyond Emulator http://forum.enb-emulator.com/index.php?&&CODE=00
Kal, have you tried this one out? I was in the beta and played a bit of E&B a few years back and liked it. I thought the emulator is only to simulate the single player experience is that right or did they finally get a multiplayer server running? Instead of just closing the game and calling it quits they should have released the source to let the community take over.

I think the game is very much alive. You can play it as a single player game (I tried for a hour or two), and they had a multiplayer stress test on January (unfortunately I could not log in). So I think you can ask them a couple of questions. 🙂
There is a second stress test taking place right now.

From the site:
We are glad to announce that our 2nd Stress Test is now Online!
First off let me explain a little about what a "Stress Test" means as there seems to be certain misconceptions:
A stress test is simply a means for the server developers to gauge how the internal server architecture and hardware will hold up on a large scale environment. Without testing this and opening it up to the public for this reason we will never be able to gauge whether or not the architecture will handle the "Massively" part of an MMORPG.
This means that this stress test is primarily a developer tool to gauge our systems and not actually a player test! For that reason please understand that there will be times where the server will be down for an undetermined amount of time. Also please understand that this is not a finished version of the game we remember (it is clearly a work in progress, and will continue to be so for some time).
However; With that being said our test will also serve as a preliminary testing ground for our content. While this is not the primary task of this test it is no doubt important as the content crew have spent a considerable amount of time generating the content for the game.
In the future we will have strictly player tests to flesh out the content and playability, however for now this remains a secondary part of our stress test.
Now with that out of the way ... Lets move on to the fun part:
This go around we are opening the test up to 300 players online at any given time (which may change depending on certain internal factors).
Thanks for this CaptianKal
It will be nice to see people playing E&B online again. I know when I tried this emulator out a year ago it was single player online if I remember correctly and there was a lot of editing you had to do to get it to work.
It's multiplayer now, really easy to install. Come check us out and enb-emulator.com or net7.org
When I get some free time I would like to load this up and see how it is now, thanks for the update.
Briefly watched a few streams of EnB emulator from about 1-2yrs ago and there is still some gfx anomalies but will be worth the time to try this out soon.
