To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

More of a Retro Game, but heck, it is an Indie Game: Star Opus I.

This is a caged-asteroid game, however it has strategy elements, a galaxy map with decisions to make, and just plain fun 😀

Oh, the important part... It's FREE 😀

Find it here: http://www.emsproject.com/staropus/staropus.asp

Very nice. I do like a good old-skool Asteroids blast. Graphics are well done, too. And you very quickly learnt o hate those Rotators!

Great find Songbird.

This asteroids style game looks great and I will also download this and give it a try. Sometimes the simplest of games can be the most entertaining. 🙂

I will add this one to the link list for the next update.

Excellent game to while away 5 or 10 minutes playing a few levels and very well presented

Welcome to SSC JohnCage

I just got done playing Star Opus and made it to the 4th area after about 15-20mins. I think what your doing is great with the system map and small missions per sector. I know I am still a newb to the controls but most of the enemies you face are shooting grenades and they do a lot of damage and sometimes kill you in one hit. And with the asteroids also doing damage to you it is rough staying alive once you are moving to fast 🙂

Is there a powerup for shield replenish? And are there any plans for a store or something to purchase things after or before a mission? Any plans to let the player refine the controls to set reaction time for rotating?

Is Star Opus all homegrown or did you use a engine for it? And I really like the self contained aspect of the game of just running the exe. Where is your save game kept?

Awesome game JohnC love the classic asteroids take on it, as you say part 2 and 3 will be on the ground and caverns will we see a change in play style to the other arcade classic lunar Lander or the 8 bit game Thrust then Defender for the caverns part or are you sticking to the asteroids style. ❓

The next episode called 'Journey to the Kaou Pih' is now under construction and ends this first Part I. Yes - Omega Race was one of my all time favourites. I really love 2d space shooters - especially those 360- shooters with one thruster.

I thought the next part II will be distantly something like Defender and some ideas from Spinziddy too:) If you have some ideas - just hit me:)

Hi,

Actually, I removed the shield powerups from this first episode 1:) I'm adding shieldups to the next episode thouhg.

Star Opus is all homegrown, includin' spark engine, font animation engine, dialogs, grafix and music. It is made by BlitxMax & C. So, the Mac and Linux versions are comin' too. This first part contains some music I composed 2006-2007.

p.s. You can locate the save game from: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\EMS Project

Regards,

I haven't completed the first one yet (still trying but I think its my age preventing me 😆 )

But for those that hasn't given this game a try you should because it is quite good and a challenge.
