To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I saw this article and laughed a little....

I guess at some point we have to figure out how to get to the Star Trek replicator technology and this is the first step.... but the thing is should I trust the contents of that nugget 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣Β
So I guess the question to ask everyone, would you eat some 3D printed nuggets? π
Β
OMG I am getting older and when my old ass finally has no teeth or my kids try to stick me in a nursing home I am going to have to eat this stuff 🤮Β
would you eat some 3D printed nuggets?
I wouldn't eat anything from KFC, 3D printed or not. As for the veg - yuck!

Probably not. 🤣Β
But its getting pretty amazing what you can do with 3D printing.

This^^^^^^^Β

Agreed, but imagine the size of the machine and all of the nutrient containers you would need to make a simple dinner π personally I would much rather them focus on life extension... I am getting older and I don't want too π
Β
Just think everyone.... this could be in our future and where we pay $100+ for a REAL steak dinner 😧Β

They are getting close, it looks close to real

Been at least 10yrs since I have had KFC... my stomach has gotten more sensitive as I get older it seems. Home cooked food usually is the best for me. It's strange... its like my body has finally realized hey... why you eating this fast food or restaurant food there is something in it I don't like. I started eating home more and amazing how much better I feel. When I do go out to eat I definitely choose food that I know needs to have fresh food in it as much as possible πΒ

Well, I got a secret, and don't give us away
I got some real food tins for my 91st birthday
And your grandmother bought them
Way down in the new antique food store
And for beans and for bacon, I will open up my door

Fresh home-cooked food is the way to go!

Its an amazing thing to see and is good from marketing sense.
Wonder when we will start seeing laser ovens in the homes... 2040?

<grins> We'll probably all be eating insect protein, or meat grown in a vat, by then!
If the production passes safe standards for food, it might be not so awful. In the age of advanced technology, efficiency (and don't forget the greenhouse gases from farming, animal rights, etc.). We are eating food from conveyors, and if anyone has been working on a milk or meat fabric, would have stopped taking that nutrition already.
'Fast food' relics will handover to supersonic or cosmic 'speedy food'.
Home dinners' preparation is already an art. And there are many men and women who enjoy preparing them.
It will definitely be interesting to see where 3D printing of food will be in the next 5 years ... only a matter of time before we are getting irritated at our 3D cook π
