To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Having started to play SPG, came across some irregularities in-game, and finally had the need to join a forum to discuss different matters and various issues concerning SPG. I'm a gamer since the time of the Amiga! I think, my first space games were Millennium 2002 and the sequel Deuterios. Actually my favorite game is Living Silent Hunter 3 v.5.1xx. and CcoM 8.xx , both of them "Gross-Mods" to the basic game of Silent Hunter3.

Welcome to SSC Tianhe

There was a remake to Millennium that was released a few years back think its in the Download Area, I have never played Silent Hunter before, that's that sub game if I remember correctly. I owned an Amiga 500 back in the 90's and wish I had kept it. On SPG, I haven't played it in a while, but I never came across a game stopping bug in my play time. All I can say without knowing your issues is to have your graphics drivers updated and game fully patched. I know I have the DVD of the game, maybe its the digital downloads that people have issues with?

Hi Tianhe

Welcome to the SSC, are you a member of the Sub Sim forum by any chance? Thats a great place, like an under water version of the SSC and yes I love the Silent Hunter series too. I have every single one of them. SH3 is my favourite using the Grey Wolves mod.

Anyways yes, SPG. I had lots of problems with this game. The best advice I can give you is to send an email to Dorijan. He deals with support issues related to SPG, here is his email address dorijan@starpointgemini.com

He was very helpful to me and got me up and running in no time, perhaps he can help you too.

And your an Amiga fan? We do have an Amiga thread on here. If you want a look and possibly some laughs, have a look here http://spacesimcentr...s-of-the-amiga/

Hi you allout there,

Answer to Geraldine: Yes, I am member of Subsim. My User-Name there is: patuxai; also present, but gone from the UBI de Forum, since Roter Oktober and Ruby2000 became Admins. People with an no-go behaviour. Actually in our "New Home" : Marinesims.de . I belong since a few years to the developer team of LSH3 v.5.1xx and recently we started with the new Gross-Mod LSH v.6, which is actually in the Beta version present for testers, of which I are part of them, and we think beeing able to release the version for the end of this Year. Try once LSH3 v.5.1 or if you like it the hard and very realistic way, CcoM v.8.xx

To all others of the unforgettable aera of the Amiga 500, yes, how could I be so stupid and get rid of that machine one day long ago ??

I still remember as it were just only yesterday, when I noticed an ad somewhere, (think it was the AMIGA mag) there was a shop in Bregenz, who sold a memory card of 1.8 Megs, to be fitted in the bay below. That time I lived in Geneva, Switzerland, to say, I took one saturday morning the car and drove 370 km to Bregenz, got the card, returned to GVA and fitted it, and had in the late afternoon my AMIGA 2300!!!

Hi Geraldine,

I've never played with GWX mod; of course, I 've heard of it. Have you ever reached the end of WW II ? How is the ending there? With LSH and CcoM you may make it at the best case to escape to Buenos Aires. The war is over, yourself still at sea, and are summoned by radio to surrender, what you definitely not are willing to do. You have to manage to make your way from the Northern Atlantic down to the south, and believe me, you will be chased in the Air and on the sea, most of the time you have to dive. It may easely be mid-august till you reach Argentine.

No not at wars end, I am still trying to do the Gibraltar run and every time I am found and sunk. I really need to put more time into SH3. It's very underrated and the tension is palpable when you are trying to sneak your way past the blockades. It got too much for me at one point and had to stop playing, my nerves couldn't take it! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_crazy.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':girlcrazy:' />

I am gonna do that Gibraltar run come what may!

I haven't played a sub-sim for years, but I'm thinking of buying SH4 WotP... got any opinions on that one?

Hi Cody,

Don't waste money for SH4, this game was dead-born, when it came out. Graphics were improved, but the ergonomy , which you knew very well from SH3, completly changed. In a way not playable. I can only advise you, go with SH3, it's still the most successful sub-game. SH4 takes place in the Pacific Ocean and is mainly Yanks versus Japs. LSH3 and CcoM have widened activities around South Africa towards South East Asia (Penang, Soerabaja and Djakarta) ; since some german D9 2 Types, (Monsoon-Boote) were operating with the Japanese Imperial Fleet. I still have SH4 on my shelf, once installed and immediately removed again!! Feel free to ask me for it, you may hav' it.

I concur with tianhe, go for SH3, it has the most advanced mods. Generally, Sub Sims are just as intense as Space Sims, the only real difference is the pacing. You have time to think, but when the action happens, it happens all at once. In an instant, you go from being a deadly machine of war to a fragile, vulnerable target running for your life. Sound familiar Cody?

Oh yes! I can't recall the last computer sub-sim I played (it would've been in the early '90s), but the very first one I played was an old '60s arcade game called Periscope. They had one in my local ten-pin bowling hall, and I spent hours on it (I was well into the bowling too, mind you).

<sighs - glances at the Das Boot novel on the bookshelf>

Hi Cody,

most probably what you v'e played in the early 90s, must have been " Silent Service II ". I v'e played this first on AMIGA, then it was released for PC. At exactly that period, I switched from AMIGA to 486 DX 64, who was then my first PC.

BTW, have you seen " Laconia " on TV or DVD ?

'Silent Service II', eh? Yeah, that sounds vaguely familiar. I got my first PC in '94, I think.

Re 'Laconia'... nope, I don't possess a TV.

It was reading this book as a kid that first got me into submarines.

A very well-told, and true, account of the WWII patrols of HMS Storm... ahh!

I v'e been away quite a long time too, not always time to sit behind the computer and play games. But now I 'm back for duty !                                                    To Geraldine: THX for your link via subsim, I found and downloaded " Galaxias "  have to try it out.  I hope I will like it. SPG is not too bad, but playing spacegames some decades ago, I could return home on earth or any planet, that is what I miss with SPG, there you may notice from timt to time a planet, but you cannot land on it....
