To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Good morning. Just got signed up here and wanted to say hi. I wandered through here quite by accident a couple of months ago. I happened to be looking for a user manual for ffe. I was going through a retro gaming phase at the time and by suprise I found the d3d version and have subsequently been completely blown away. Fortunately this has all been a totaly new experience for me cos I'd never played ffe until about a month before finding this place.
My flight credentials are probably a bit sketchy lol (computers and consoles have kinda been in and out of my life. I have a love hate relationship with them lol), But I would definately say that the spacesim is definately been my favourite genre over the years. A love that began in '85 with ELITE on mi old C64. Which I finally got round to top ranking sometime in '88/'89, something like that. Played it again, though a while back now, on the pc using a NES emulator, but it just didn't seem the same for some reason. Then a mate of mine told me about GLFrontier. So I hammered that for a bit. Only got as far as competant with that one. But yeah...it was cool. enjoyed that one immensly, Felt somewhat let down by the awful combat though. Other than that...class. Been playing ffe pretty much solidly since getting the dl from you guys (thankyou thankyou thankyou). Currently competant, trundling round the galaxy in a beat up old BOA. Fell in love with this great ship during my time on Frontier. Heavy enough to carry some BIG guns, but light enough for a decent jump. And the redesign in ffed3d looks great. Put together my own custom soundtrack file as well with around a GB of music. If I'm allowed to uplad this then I shall. But only if it's not gonna cause any cufufle. Otherwise....perhaps not heh.
In the long years between ELITE, E2F, and FFE I had always wandered why it has taken soooo long for another sequel to appear. So instead, I've had to satisfy myself with some of ELITEs lesser cousins. The COLONY WARS trilogy, G Police 1 & 2, SW Battle front 2 and if it counts...Mace Griffen lol...
I've also just started having a crack at STARLANCER (Found it in the bargain bin at the local Gamestation) but the game doesn't seem to like my hardware for some reason. The background lighting effects are all blocky and splodgy. So if anyones got any technical advise on how to solve this. That would be appreciated cheers.
Other than all that. I enjoy a good family life, married, two kids, two stupid dogs. Play in a kick ass space rock band. Used to be a gardener until the great depression. Now I'm just a boring old house husband (with A LOT of work to do lol), but at least I can always rock mi anger out from time to time heh.
So..That's me, hello everyone (again). And I'll look forward to chatting with some of you.
Hi Naagulmai
Welcome to the SSC.
Great intro there! 🙂
A house husband? Now there is a rare breed! Good for you. 🙂
Yes, the Elite games. If you do like them, do drop by the Frontier forum and help add to the fan pressure for Elite IV. Here is a link

Darkone has just recently updated his FFE3D package. So be sure and check that out. Have fun! 😉
Welcome Naagulmai!! welcome aboard!
Yes the recession has left me up the creek without a paddle too, which has left me with a lot of spare time in between sending CV`s off, looking for jobs ect and being a house husband/fiance/ (i call my self the butler) 😆 so i hit the space gaming scene again for the first time in years. I was amazed by FFED3D as well. have fun and im sure you will find all the help and advice with your gaming needs on this blinder of a site!
Hey Naagulmai
Glad you found your way back to SSC, so many games so little time 🙂
Make sure you check this thread: ffed3d-f53/ffed3d-complete-package-t568.html. I few days ago I uploaded the latest complete package of FFED3D with a mod manager.
On Starlancer, my guess would be that maybe you are trying to play the game on a higher resolution than what it was meant for. Did you try playing at 800x600 or 1024x768? Been a while since I player SL but I loved the game personally.
Got any links to your bands music Naagulmai?

Cool. Taa for the welcome.
Aye a house hubby I am. Not by choice, but there yer go. It's probably been for the best in the long run though. I've been kinda needed around the home for a while. Unemployment more or less came at the right time, as I have two teenage sprogs that were getting close to seriously going off the rails. Having a strong patriarchal, homely presence around the house has done wonders to prevent a lot of bother. When I was working I was either at work or asleep. And that's really no way to be good parent lol.
Tried altering the resolution on Starlancer, even changed the settings directly through the graphics card. But it was to no avail. It's not so bad though. Don't really get time to notice the splodgyness of the background when there's a coalition fighter trying to shoot the living daylights out of you. It's a pretty tough hectic game. I've quite enjoyed it so far...
Oh and the bands website should be linked on the right underneath mi avatar. You'll like it...But not a lot heh heh.
Even got some links from the blogs space through to here and the other ffed3d related sites. Had some vids up too. But I had to clearout mi comuter about a week ago due to a really nasty virus. And since the embeded videos are failing to appear . For me anyway. So again, if anyones got any technical pointers as to how this has happened. Then please let me know.
Cheers. 💡
i would uninstall any flash/shockwave/java plugins and reboot (not sure what browser you use... use firefox) but make sure the browser doesn't see these plugins any more and reinstall the latest versions of each (with browser closed). That should take care of any flash/java related browser issues you may have.
Starting fresh again:
1. In your browser remove all flash/shockwave and java plugins
2. Check add/remove programs for those plugins and remove them
3. reboot
4. Reinstall the plugins

Ahh! It was the absence of the shockwave player that was causing all mi troubles. So much stuff to remember when resetting the machine lol. All is working well again..Taa for that.
