To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Helo from a 'old' gamer

I decided to join a forum just for particular reason. Exploring new or explore the old but still playable games. Right now im looking for a trading strategy game but much more complex than some crap in "Smugglers" style (ugh... i even wonder how it can be that i wrote that name...). I like games which give me some challenge like MoO, Space Empires, Endless Space, but now im looking for game all about maintaining my own ship and then, when i got rich, my own mercantile fleet and then my own prospering corporation of some sorts. In short - im looking for: Trading Strategy game (whether real time or turn based), NO PILOTING sim nor MULTIPLAYER (hate those... too much buttons on keyboard, why no multiplayer? Im old date gamer, there was any MMO's when i was a kid - BTW i dont like them. No fun when someone gets better position if he can spend real cash on stupid virtual commodities that are generally OP and/or are disbalancing game), more weight on trading than fighting (for fighting i got other games), would be very nice if open ended or sandboxy, I dont need uber super graphics to play. Any ideas, fellow Space Admirals?

About myself. Im a plain gamer, more precisely quite old plain gamer. I was born in '86 in country on the east side of Iron Curtain where i was unable to play any games until late '90s (my first PC i got in 1997 and due to game prices be precise, today's tendencies about those prices do not prognose well also).

But on the other hand, I was co-working with my friend on play-by-forum game on a certain Polish forum, and i my self made a several PBF games (but were not played through because i did not finished those)

So i'll be glad if someone can point me to a good and tested free game or to game for not so big cash.

PS. Sorry for my language mistakes (even if those does not exist - in which i will not believe)

Welcome to SSC, MRav - from a very old gamer.

Hopefully, someone will be along soon with a suggestion or two for you.

Hi MRav

Welcome to the SSC. At first I would have thought the X series would tick all the boxes for you, but unfortunately for you they does include piloting too. Another game I can think of is East India Company. This isn't space related but the whole point of the game is to build a massive trading empire using sailing ships, developing ports and equipping your ships to defend themselves. I am a very committed space sim fan, but I do like this game. Have a look at here if your interested.

Welcome to the forums MRav

As for the game you looking for it's a tough criteria, only ones I can think of that may fit the bill are Starship Tycoon http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/starship-tycoon and Space bucks http://www.mobygames.com/game/win3x/space-bucks and Starship Corporation http://www.starshipcorporation.com/

Gazillionaire

Turn based Trading Game (with rather weird art style) - that also supports Hot Seat for killing friendships (at least those ol' windows version)
