why would I ever pre-order any game ?!
Because people are dumb, mindless zombies. Remember the last year when the anti-preorder movement was at its finest?
Ah ah! Oh man you are so right!
Anyway generally speaking people are boored, too many games so they have seen a lot of games...they have become too critical.
To the other side publishers have to moderate hype instead of pumping it to the stars. Games able to sustain a big hype are few...Doom, The witcher...sometimes even this great titles are not able to sustain all that expectations.
It's a double edge sword.
I think hallo games paid for sony hype policy.
I want to chime in on the whole NMS "issue"(?). I've never been hyped about the game. It didn't click with me. I'm not here to take a stance on either sides. I will never buy the game simply because of what I saw didn't appeal to me and the ending of the game really just made me loose interest. I'm also not saying that the game is bad. Not at all. I can totally understand the people who love the game and I'm glad that they do enjoy it. There are so many games out there these days that people can enjoy which is pretty awesome to be able to have so much to choose from.
That said, I don't blame the game as in terms of design, it works, it's just a repetitive experience, well to me it is. I do blame the marketing behind it and I blame Sean Murray for the way he lied by omission or just answering in the vaguest possible manners possible. I can only imagine what some of the other developers must have been thinking seeing Murray talk about the game in ways the other devs know is not representative of what the game actually is.
To me most Murray's answers tends to be in the vein of "the game is so big, you may experience it, but don't count on it." I also think that not updating any of the shown pre-release footage is something that cannot be excused. You cannot do half the things seen in there. and from the gameplay footage I saw it's not something I'd want to play, but when I look back at the interviews and said footage I might have been interested. I also feel that people have been misled. There wouldn't be this much uproar about the game if it at least fulfilled a couple more of the promises made.
The fact that on the first day two streamers were at the exact same location, yet not being able to see eachother really made me feel pissed at Murray. It affirmed the fact that he WAS lying. Even if you love the game you cannot deny the fact that he did. It also hurts indies. A few years back indies started out so strong and it's obvious that crappy games would emerge. but thanks to steam and it's failing greenlight platform as well as early access indies are taking hit after hit. I hate seeing this happening because there are tons of other indies out there that work their asses off.
Hello Games, no doubt, have had their developers work very hard on their game. It's incredibly obvious and noticeable. As I said I can only wonder how they feel. I've worked for Monochrome and my ex-boss did stuff that the whole team was questioning yet we couldn't say or do anything about it. He's the boss. What are you going to do against your boss. I'm pretty sure some of those guys must have experienced something similar.
Anyway. As it stands I just hope the fans will continue to be able to enjoy their game and hopefully we all can learn something from how we shouldn't jump onto the hype trains of this industry. Get excited but keep it in check. Let the games surprise you for a change. You want to play a shooter? Check out some gameplay footage, and a review or two. If you have a good feeling just try it out. People can make mistakes when buying a game it's part of being human. Sorry if I'm all over the place but it's a topic that has a wide reach. And don't forget to keep enjoying the game, regardless of the hate others have for it. 🙂
This just in, apparently blaming NMS for every misfortune you're having makes you cool because it can get you to the headlines or something.

If I read something like "As you know we're doing a Kickstarter, and half of the comments are like 'this is just No Man's Sky all over again.' ", it seems to me that that is a statement that can be fact-checked. And the other MNS stuff that was said seem to be fair conclusion's, based on that.
So ... I don't see why this would be unjustified blaming/complaining by DU.
btw: DU made the 500K goal today (oct 8,2016).
I'm not 100% sure because I'm not a developer, but my best guess is that making a MMO and a Single Player Adventure Sci-Fi game are 2 entirely different things the last one being much more difficult and expensive IMO, and considering that we must be fair with NMS I think. Looking at Eve Online or other MMOs (excluding Elite Dangerous that has a good single player in form of 'Solo' play), they all have very nice grafic engines, no doubt, but for a good reason these titles don't include single player modes that have real free roaming qualities. And will they ever? Nah...Will we ever see a NMS like game with the grafics of Eve Online? Maybe Star Citizen when ready.
Getting good AI behavior for NPC's etc. requires huge amount of work, not just a good grafic engine, and if you make a story mode then your story better hit the moods of the gamers, also the whole thing must be made so to surpass a simple indie-game. Not easy at all. It's not every day that we bump into a storyline like Freelancer, Wing Commander or - hell, how is the name of this jewel - xxxxx.
I wonder if Star Citizen has more problems with their 'Single Player Campaign' rather than the multiplayer part.
Or maybe I'm totally wrong and MMO's are even more complex and expensive to produce? I welcome the feedback of a developer here!
All this should tell us how difficult and what real work is behind a game like No Man's Sky.

Hello World of SpaceSimCentral...,
I'm now in touch with this new site, I hope you are all doing well !
I'm sure that with time ongoing new patch and update notes about NMS will soon come here again, in the meantime I just want to report that NMS has got a fundamental new Update 1.1, also known as Foundation Update that completly changes the game - for the better. After this update, 2 major patches have come out, 1.12 and 1.13 (the latest from december).
What is new? A lot. A leap forward is that now you can build bases and other stuff, you can hire personel, do Farming activities with hydroponic labs where you can hire specialists...and a lot more. Here the complete description of the Foundation update:
http://www.no-mans-sky.com/foundation-update/
These changes are indeed a great game booster, all features that many of us wanted to see from the start. Because I have now a decent rig, I will soon report for more details about my experience with NMS.
Cheers,
XenonS
I've been playing the game for about 1 month now with the newest update mentioned above.
I want to give my player report without spoiling anything of course, and also giving a comment wether the game is worth 60 bucks or not and what needs to be improved. I will divide my comment by 'The Good' and 'The Bad' because these 2 highly contrast each other.
The Good...
Immersion when exploring.
Yes, the planets and different locations are beautiful and immersive and if you enjoy to just free-roam and taking pictures of nice sites then this game is for you. Tip: There is a so-called Photo Mode, but strangely there is no keyboard command to take screenshots. So have a third-party program like MSI Afterburner (or Fraps, or else) that allows you to take screenshots or even videos to enjoy such activity.
Building and Farming is fun as long as the different quests take place. If you get too bored by the 'Normal' game mode, then switch to 'Survival' and be prepared to a very tough (maybe too frustrating) gameplay.
You can also buy a freighter (capital ship) and do all your farming activity there, but you need at least 15 Million units to buy it, so you have to play for a good amount of time to afford it.
If space battles and fights are not critical for you, then this activity will be OK, else, it's way too easy and simplistic at the current state.
The Bad...
Exploration and contemplation of the sites apart, what you really *do* in the game will soon get repetitive because of lacking content. There are a lot of different types of buildings on planets, also there are Aliens in the game, not too many, but they are all dummies presenting you quizzes that will only challenge a 5 year old kid. On terminals in some buildings you have to solve some math quizzes that roughly will be the same all the time, not very appealling. A little more substance with a variety of actions would be fine!
Because of this uniformity and repetitive tasks to do your upgrades for your ship and health systems (major activity) the big scope of reaching the galactic center (and some other goals that I won't spoil here) are highly diminished in my opinion, the game must simply have MORE CONTENT. And there we go for the question about the 60 bucks for it. That's a lot of money for a game in this state. For such a price I'm expecting a content that I find in GTA V, or in Just Cause 2, Just Cause 3, or the FarCry series, and actually these games cost less. But then, just comparing No Man's Sky with these titles is not fair. Why? NMS is not a AAA title with a big gaming studio behind the workers like in the games I just mentioned, so NMS is more expensive because only a little group of people is working on it making it much more work pro person. Still what remains is: 60 bucks for it is way too much for the current game content.
I personally still have a lot of fun with the game, but that's just because of my romanticism and idealism: For me it's enough to occasionally switch to this game and enjoy the nice sites, landing on planets, explore freely, meeting some strange animals, having the challenge to make a 100% Milestone for all fauna discoveries on a planet, and watching the planets in the sky where I have just been before. That's enough for me, though It may not be enough for YOU, so if you watch videos on Youtube about the game, look at the release date, because most of these videos full of complaints are simply out of date, reflecting the pre-foundation state of the game. The game has added a LOT since then and hopefully Sean Murray and his team are going on and will add more content.
Enjoy,
XenonS
So I finally bought the game, Had a couple of problems at the start, one was the press and hold the "E" key and other was the monitor complaining about being out of range. although the game played fine apart from a blue box in the middle of the screen. A quick visit to the options sorted that out and it also restored my sound.
So I got off the start planet while only dying once, still don't know how that happened. 🙂 went onto the next planet with a quick stop at the space station. Landed on the planet and was Reading the message, when I was killed by what looked like that purple dinosaur from the Flintstones.
Reload, killed the dinosaur and a sentinel shows up and kills me. Reload, so I killed the sentinel, then two more of the buggers showed up and killed me again. After another reload, I think I'm safe as I can't see any Flintstone dinosaurs and their only one sentinel which is lurking off by a big rock.
Think I can get on with this tutorial now as the games telling me about some sort of base building.
They are slowly reaching their vision. Each time I lauch the game to play only 25 - 30 min, and each time I finaly spend 2 or 3 hours exploring the Euclide Galaxy 🙂
The only flaw: there is almost too much to do, struggling to stay focused on one goal / mission at a time ^^
I'm enjoying the game but I have the advantage of coming very late to it, I know the frustration of buying a game and then having to constantly restart every time they do a major update.
I guess in the long term, I will get fed up with the grinding for resources but as for now I'm having fun trying out the different features
More death in No Man Sky as I tunnelled my way into a unground water cavern looking for an ancient ruin, turned out to be a very large underwater cave system and I ran out of air.
Death by dinosaurs, this time I though about sanding on a big rock, so to be out of harms way but the sodding thing still managed to attack me. So I killed it and then I was killed by a sentinel. I have now worked out how to avoid the angry sentinels by using the time honoured technique of "running away".
Haha sounds like the sentinels are more annoying than what I imagined them to be, is that mechanic of the game does it stop your exploration much? Do you know if the creatures are aggro before you get to close? My main draw to NMS is the exploration factor too it so I would hope this isn't affected to much and you relatively have the freedom to explore.
But I would guess very early on in the game you will need to do a lot of running away from everything to stay alive. But I guess in doing so would have some impact on you since your in a suit.
You can explore anywhere but a sentinel will pop up after a few second when you move into a new arear and they move around, so you have to be aware of where they are, sofar not seen them underwater or underground. Also angry sentinels like the cops in GTA they will search for you for a few seconds, then return to normal
Only the meat eater will attack if they see you or you shoot at them and they do seem to be more them at night as well, the Herbivore usually runaway but will attack you if you attack them.
I would like to have access to a land vehicle but sofar I have been able to get one, maybe they have to be unlocked in the story mode. Have only been able to communicate with a couple of the aliens on the space station, as I have yet to learn their language.
Have got the hyperdrive and fuel, but the games a bit vague on how you make a system jump from the map screen, but their is a lot to do and see in this start system. the game reminds me a of "The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy" all I need is a towel. 🙂
Pretty amazing but I have not died in the last couple of days and have managed to make the jump to another system, and had my first dogfight. Just before I left I found a crashed freighter but it would have taken hours to fix so I left it.
Have been looking at YouTube vid and it seems the vehicle's are connected with base building, think they missed a trick here in that they should have had the ability of the a ship to carry a vehicle in it's hold.
Followed the plot and have ended up in what looks like an intergalactic bus station
Went outside and it all went "close encounters of the third kind"
I still can't get the hang of jumping to a new system, the whole map screen seems to be made for use with a joypad. Finally managed to do again and ended up in the Stargate universe.
Much bigger system as it has six planets and a moon and the moons is very nice apart from the 100 odd degree rain storms.
Visuals looking good Pinback and Hello Games just recently patched the game again
https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/11/development-update-8/
Just looking at the patch note and their was something about crashes which I have just experienced a couple of days ago when the game just froze.
Made a mistake last night as I swapped my muiltool which had a really good scanner in it for a broken one also it does not have the mining attachment. so I'm now having to look at YouTube videos to try and figure out how to get the mining tool back.
So a number of thing have happened on NMS in the last couple of days, I did a couple missions and my rep has increased with the aliens who will now give mission at the station. Also I found some sort of ruin which sent me into space to find a space anomaly.
Turns out it was a space stion/ship thing where you get mission for the games story.
I also found another crash trader ship and decide to swap it for my fighter. Now wished I hadn't as taking a lot time to fix everything and it fly's like a pig.
Ok the new update, well turned my grass from blue to red and added a couple of animals and planet but the only other thing I have seen so far is bone fossils, worth a bit. Not sure about this but I think the height of the hills have changed, as the planet seems to be more hilly than they were before.
Got a new hyperdrive which allows me to go to the red stars, so I made the jump and found no space station and no one on the planets so far. Did find my first water world.
It did have some small islands on it, so I landed and decided to continue with a mission to feed the animals, do not try to feed the predators as it will result in you being attacked.:)
Next planet was also a blue water world with no land, not sure if you can land in the ocean?. no sign of Kevin Costner either, so I left and went onto the 3rd planet which is a snowball world.
I just realised something with the feeding the animals mission, and that is they sometime crap crystal, which was a WTF moment. 🙂 as can be seen in the pic below, this critter just dropped me a red hot steamer.
Not sure if they all do it or if it just certain critters, now if I could just find a Nibbler type animal from Futurama which craps starship fuel.
Moved to another system and found a very nice planet apart from the boiling rain again. Anyhow have decided to build a base to see if I can work out how you get the vehicles, if anyone know, let me know as so far I can only build in wood. Found glowing ball in a ruin, pick it up and was chased by three sentinels and got a nasty dose of radiation from cargo contains found in one of the big crash freighters.
Also it the first time I have seen one of predators kill a herbivore.
Anyone know what these comm tower are for.
Visuals looking nice in those shots Pinback, I got a laugh out of you needing the animal wildlife waiting for your reward hahaha
You do much space combat in NMS yet? What are your thoughts on it or are you limited because of resources for your ship?
I have found that you can feed the animals at any time as long you have items they will eat, but I don't recommend trying to feed the predators. 🙂
I have had a few space combat encounter with pirates, they will usually appear if you carrying anything of value, and they also followed me all the way down onto the planets surface once.
Combat is on the arcade side but is a lot fun to play even in the freighters which has a noticeable slower turning speed than the fighter did.one thing which is not too good is the radar which dose not appear to work very well, although the lock on is auto and the game will show an arrow as to where that ship is.
More death in NMS and after I said the space combat was easy I get jumped by 3 or 4 pirates with bounties on them, result dead in space. (first time) just on a side note I wish the scanner was better for scanning asteroids especialy when looking for fuel.
Anyhow I have decided to move to the beach and set up a new base so I can explore underwater as I not done any of this since my unfortunate drowing accidents.I have also worked out how to upgrade the base as it tells you how to do it in the log.Currenty looking for a scientist for the base.
Quick look under water
Some sort of black smoker, get too close and a jet of boiling water erupt's from it.
Lot of fanboy speculation that the next big update will be space and I hope they are right as it could do with more things to do in it.
