To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

It would be great if this could be played offline.  The statement above makes me a little bit skeptical however, I would have expected a high-profile announcement if this were true.  Marketing material from a developer is one thing, marketing material from Sony has an air of untrustworthiness about it.

By the way, I know this probably isn't reasonable, but the term "maths" absolutely infuriates me.  It's not even an abbreviation, since math is a shorter word.  Since computers can only perform a few arithmetic operations, in actuality every computer game ever made consists of all and only math.  (More ontologically, the whole universe is apparently just a machine for evaluating path integrals, i.e. "math".)  So, in addition to sounding retarded, it's also meaningless.  (Is it possibly some computer science term I'm not aware of?)

I guess we will find out but I would not expect any announcement about it as I think most people tend to expect games to be offline unless they are MMO.

Yes there is a computer science term called - Algorithm or Computer/Digital Algorithm.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algorithm

And yes it like scraping finger nail down a chalkboard when people use term "maths" or even "maths and sums" ... its mathematics!!!

The more they release a new trailer, I feel that it won't able to meet most people's (read: "mainstreams") expectation. IMO it's like watching them presenting the same stuff over and over again (at least there's walkers now) - either they have so few things to show or they have something very particular to let the players explore on their own, which may explain the trailers almost always having the samey vibe.

Well, at least there's proper release date now despite how they calling it "delayed.

I dunno. I hate to be bitter about the game, its just that after Rebirth and Dangerous its hard to stay positive lol. Its looking good tho, I might have to board the hype train again.

Erm ... having mixed feelings about the BladeRunner linkup attempt, as I have not seen anything game-play wise or game atmosphere wise that even comes close to anything BladeRunner related.

This feels a bit like there trying to boost there initial sales expectations. As such I will completely dismiss the BladeRunner theme in relation to NMS. (Less change of being disappointing later on, but its also makes me more critical / skeptical to whatever else they might say / publish about the game.)

(But I like that they at least got Rutger Hauer to do the narrating.)

I thought it was rather inspired to do a take on his BladeRunner speech.

I'm always hoping that we might see a some scifi easter eggs in one of these games one day.

P.s. Sorry but... posting videos isn't intuitive at all, literally every other forum on the face of the planet allows me to embed, or at least gives me a button I can click and add a link. You guys will just have to click the links. I'm far too lazy to google the code for this.

Sound good 😎 bit of shame about the one bio sphere and the gravity but it looks like it will have a ton of things to explore, deep oceans for one.

Same on the 'one bio sphere and the gravity'. Other than that, I like what I hear.

Just hope they checked (and keep checking) for potential "dying at the other end of a portal" bugs. 😉

Unless I missed it, there wasn't any talk of DLC. Hmm I hope Hello Games will continue to patch and add small bits of content to the game. But I know they have been working on this game for years now and may want to move on to other things, I hope the hype will make expanding on NMS probable in the near future. I will probably wait a bit and get it for Xmas sale so I can read all the reviews and see how people like it first.

Much hilarity can be had from the Steam forums where all the self opinionated urchins are saying they are not buying it because their is no multiplayer, which is strange as IIRC Hello games have always said their would no multiplayer in the game.

The other big beef is the price which is high for an indie game but I guess Sony wants their investment back, so it's look like pay up on release or wait a few months for a sale, mind you, you can always spend $150 on an empty box  http://store.iam8bit.co.uk/collections/no-mans-sky

Minimum specs from Steam

  • Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 7
    • Processor: Intel Core i3
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: nVidia GTX 480
    • Storage: 10 GB available space

My god people are such idiots.  The thing is, if I didn't know how things worked, I would say "Yeah, that's perfectly reasonable, this person really cares about multiplayer, so they don't want to play this game.".  But no, no I guarantee you that's not what it is.  I have no doubt it's more along the lines of "This game doesn't have a feature that I want, even though there was never any indication whatsoever that it would have said feature, therefore this game is absolute shit and anybody who plays it is the product of incest.".  Sigh.

Steam forums are just getting weirder and weirder.

Nice one CaptainKal I would love to get one myself but I'm not convinced it worth the money for a plastic model and a Steam code, if they had put the game on a disk I may have been more tempted.

Since I spent nearly 8.000 euros, in doctors and hospitals (nothing serious, thank god), and another 2.500 for my Master of Sciences, it was one of those "what the hell" moments!!!   . No to mention, it's my birthday in ten days!!!  :victory:

I bought one for Christmass, just for some exclusives. ("The last of us" is very good actually. And "Destiny" a good time waster!!). And if they release a Steam App for streaming games from PC, it will be great. (Not very propable, but I think there is a PS3 steam app).
