JazHaz snapped this great pic of his new Serpent Class Cruiser - a beautifully detailed ship.

Not much, you can fly though it safely at the moment, although discussions are happening on the Oolite BB about giving low damage. At the moment its just a 2D texture, and doesn't resolve into separate moonlets. See this screenshot, taken from up close:
Rings Demo 3 by JazHaz, on Flickr
Another pic from the planetary rings demo OXP... I do like a nice Neptunian.

I take it that these rings will be in the next Oolite build Cody? I think they will be a great addition <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//nyam.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
That'll be up to the devs - but seeing as cim (who made the demo OXP) is a dev, it is on the cards. Mind you, they do try to keep the core game as straightforward as possible (which is commendable), so it may well be left as an OXP option only (waiting to be improved upon). At present, the demo only adds rings to two systems per chart, so I had to finagle the numbers/textures to get a be-ringed gas giant... at first, I had a be-ringed blue ocean world (which also looked pretty cool).
Thinking about it - I'd guess it'll remain an OXP option only.

I suppose (to an Elite purest) having planetary rings in Oolite would take it dangerously close to Elite 2 territory as they were not present in the first Elite. I know one thing though (not being an Elite purest myself), I will gladly add them if the oxp is finished <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Heh... I am somewhat of an Elite purist myself, and you'd really need gas giants for rings - in core Oolite there is only the one rocky planet per system. However, I'd consider planetary rings to be eye-candy (as are multiple planets per system... ie System Redux), so I'm with you there. I'll keep the demo in my trunk set-up, and definitely use it when the next stable version is released. Man, scooting through those rings on injectors is way too much fun!

As it happens, they look pretty good around a core Oolite planet too... hmm.

Yep... beautiful, ain't it! The mis-jump sequence is also pretty damn good!

Well... seeing as you asked so nicely. But a still shot really doesn't do it justice... the whole sequence is pure eye-candy!

Very nice are they in the current build of the game.
No - atm, they're only available in the latest trunk version, using beta OXPs by Svengali.

The galactic jump sequence in trunk (with beta OXPs) is already identical to the above, atm - I presume it will stay that way.

Some light hearted shenanigans with the local constabulary... I got more than a caution that day. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//sad.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />
When I went back to return the favor I was treated to a demonstration of GalCop citizen's tax credits at work... this Viper pilot made a mockery of me.
I like the first shot a lot because it reminds me of a cover from some old sci fi pulp magazine " highly outrageous tales" or some such.
The second shot was just pausing at lucky moment, I happened to be testing the features (custom views, grabbing screens etc) and it was a legit dogfight, I didn't even know he'd dodged until I paused, I wanted to get a screen of a hit!
It certainly makes GalCop pilots look uncharacteristically skilled. >.>
Nice pictures superbatprime <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Have you tried the Furball OXP ? Thats a hoot <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_crazy.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Yes it's awesome, too awesome at times when I first installed it lol.
I actually toned it down for most system types, so the chances of a furball in a corporate system is virtually zero while in an Anarchy it happens almost constantly. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_biggrin.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
