Colony Wars Red Sun.
You play the part of Valdemar,a miner who is having strange dreams in which you are
contracted by a mysterious general.Who want's you to investigate the Red Sun starship
and a new alien menace which has appeared.

Red Sun is an arcade space shooter for the PS1 with a basic simulation of Newtonian physics.
Unlike the two previous game, there is no branching storyline.Although there is a story to
follow in the game. The game play over five station each of which have there own set of mission
to under take.Which can be played in any order. In this game when you logon you are given
four choices mission, upgrade part, upgrade ship and menory card.

Mission selection pannel.
When you selecte a mission you be given the details and some background info along with any
objectives which have to achieved to complete the mission, and how much the reward is.After
that you can launch/decline or reread the brief. You will also find any storie related
mission here, these storie mission must be played in order to move to the next station. You can also
enter the Thunderbowl competition on some of the station, this a four way fight off,but if
you are killed it will end the game.In the main mission unlike the previous games if your
ship is destoyed, there is no escape capsule and the game will end.If you fail one of the
objectives, then you are given the choice of retrying the mission or returning to the station.
Failed mission will then reappear in the mission list at some point.

The mission themselves are still the old kill/protect every thing, but there is a greater variety
as well more planet based ones to fly,in which you will encounter alien animals, which are
some times part of the objectives.

Upgrade parts
Each ship has a number hard points which can have a selection of 40 types of
weapons and add on mounted on them. Each one has its own description and cost,as the game
progresses new weapons will appear. The weapons can also be changed and sold here.

Upgrade ship.
As the name suggest you can change your ship, there are nine to fly in the game.

Graphic
This is the best graphic of all three Colony Wars games, the ship are sharp and well detailed,
and the surrounding space of planet/sun ect looks excellent.Along with some brilliant explosions
,Considering the game was released in 2000,it still looks very good today.

Combat.
As with the previous game you still have the problem of not being able to tell if the enemy
ship are above or below your ship,as there is still no stalks on the radar. The primary/
secondary weapons selection has gained a click noise now, which stop the endless cycling through
the weapons to find the right one.The big new feature here is a rechargeable shield, which
make one hell of a difference to the combat, also the captial ship and station now have
turrets ect which can be destroyed. The Newtonian flight model has been modifyed and made
worse.

Sound effect/music
the sound effect and music for the game are good, but nothing outstanding about it,there is a lot
less voice audio in the game as none of the mission have a voice over,Althrough you still
get comments from your co pilots ect, telling you about your objectives.

All in all this is the best of the three Colony Wars games it has the best missions and the
best graphic. There are a couple of minor points with the combat ,but you will soon forget
about them once you start playing the game. There's some great explosion in the game
as the enemy ships blow apart. And the adding of the alien animal to the ground mission is an
inspired idea and should be copyed by others. The game really reminds me of level based
Freelancer, and if you still have the hardware or an emulator its definitely worth getting a copy
of the game.
