I pretty much started in with Freelancer. It's a great game, but even this is on the far end of what i am looking for. I tend to like graphically inferior games with simple interfaces, with a general good story. Some examples. I really enjoyed the Smugglers series, and Escape Velocity Nova. I enjoy upgrading ships, the occasional space battle, trading, and the like. I have tried the X series, but i found the learning curve to be a bit too steep. I also played EVE Online, and Star Trek Online. I gave up on EVE because i want something smaller in scope. I already play WoW, so i didn't need another game like that. I tried STO because i love star trek, but i had to stop playing because i got it when it first came out and it was riddled with bugs. I will prolly go back to this later. In the mean time i want a nice, simple space game that has some of the elements i talked about. If you have any suggestions, i would love to hear them. Thank you!

I have always been a fan of the Wing Commander/Privateer games, now they would be considered lacking in the graphics department but the stories are pretty solid in all of them. The same with Freespace and Independence War games. On the more recent side, hmm you have Transcedence, Ascii Sector, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, Starpoint Gemini, Black Prophecy, Pioneer and a lot of other games coming soon and in alpha/beta states. There is a lot of them talked about here so just dive in and search through the forums a bit.

if you are looking for a GREAT game try to get a copy of Tachyon The Fringe, HAS voice acting of Bruce Campbell as the main character Jake Logan from evildead fame, this game was very under rated you can get on download or from steam, i still have my dvd boxed copy 🙂 you cant buy this game no more in the box maybe in a secondhand shop lol

for single player space shooter with a above average story I second Darkone's suggestion of Freespace. Also Independence War II but to a lesser degree... Both also aged very well IMHO

Thanks for all of the suggestions! OOlite seems interesting, but it almost seem a bit too old, lol. I actually have Tachyon: The Fringe, but i beleive i found the learning curve to be a little steep. Perhaps i will look back into it. As for the other games, they are all ones i have not heard of so i will certainly look into them. Thank you for the suggestions!
