To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Nehrim is free, you can download it off the official site, its basically a new game made using Oblivion's resources all you need is a copy of Oblivion installed so it can copy some files. I read that its supposed to have about 50hrs of game-play. I'm only in the beginning of the game so I can't confirm everything personally.
From aforementioned site: Q: What exactly is this "Nehrim"? How does it fit into Oblivion? And what the fudge does "Total Conversion" mean???
A: Well: Our project Nehrim does not fit into Oblivion at all. What we did is build an entirely new, discrete world that has nothing to do with Tamriel and the TES-Universe. This is characteristic of a total conversion: It works independently of the main game. Moreover, in a way Nehrim is a genuine, new game.
Q: So much for the basics. But what is so special about Nehrim? Why should I download and play it?
A: Let's just give a few reasons:
1.) Nehrim is a game focusing both on story and classical RPG gameplay. You solve quests, earn experience points, collect better equipment. Although this sounds rather conventional, Nehrim finds a perfect balance between a stunning presentation and the actual game. If you are not motivated to proceed playing once you have started, you are probably doing something wrong.
2.) There is something to discover at every corner in Nehrim. Monotonous woods and impassionately designed dungeons? Not here! And honestly: Who wants to wander through landscapes you can find outside your own home? Nehrim includes sets of landscapes that have never been implemented in any game before.
3.) There is more to the story than "Go save the world". Much more. The characters have deep personalities, they change throughout the game. And who knows, there may even be some romance...
4.) There is going to be a new soundtrack. Our team musicians Simon W. Autenrieth and Lukas Deschel have been industrious so even acoustics freaks will be comfortable in the new world. Aside from these compositions there will also be a gig by Schandmaul, a popular Folk-Rock band, who kindly have provided a song for the project.
5.) Nehrim has an elaborate synchronization. And when we say elaborate, were talking no less than 56 professional voice actors and a recording studio from Berlin that got our backs. Regarding this, Nehrim may just be one of the biggest synchronization projects ever having been undergone for a fan project.
6.) Nehrim is free. All you need is a copy of TES IV: Oblivion.

Might want to check out the forums as well for tips on using TES4 mods with Nehrim. http://www.sureai.de/forum/viewforum.php?f=86
Have you played it, is it any good? If so, whats it play like... like original oblivion or something else? I really dont like the original Oblivion, but I very much enjoyed a tweaked/overhauled oblivion with mods. (Oscurros Oblivion Overhaul is the way to go)
So if its like the latter I would be willing to give it a go, but if its just Oblivion with a new story, well theres Fallout 3 for that.
I'd be very interested to see if there has been any progression in dialogues and the like, like the improvments seen in NewVegas over Fallout3/Oblivion
I'm playing it but I'm not very far into the game since I decided to try importing some oblivion mods before continuing. It plays more like OOO then vanilla since it gets rid of enemy level scaling (there are recommended level warnings too). Also here's an excerpt from the faq...
A: The skill system. In Nehrim, you level up by gaining experience points. You gain experience points by killing monsters and most of all for finishing quests. This is the best way to motivate the player to play them. At each level-up you get "learning points" you can trade for skill upgrades at a teacher - just as in the Gothic series.
I know there are also some stat and damage tweaks and other changes as well but I'm not sure about the specifics. The quests are also different, for example they have you flipping levers and running from trolls in the prologue and sometimes you'll have npcs that will follow you around and fight with you for a while. The game is way darker too so you actually need to use torches. Oh and you have to move objects around sometimes for quests but I've found this to be more irritating then fun honestly.
I HIGHLY recommend using either S.P.A.M. (i think you need to switch the master) or the Skill-independent Attributes mod found here: http://www.sureai.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=3061 since even though the trainers make this element of the leveling system more tolerable I still think it's a stupid idea.
Check out these links for making the game better...
Great Thread about modding nehrim including a much better modlist then whats on SureAI forums http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/t ... -and-mods/
This one will point you to a few compatible combat mods http://www.sureai.de/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 097#p35446
deadly reflex 5 are supposedly compatible with a patch which I'll be testing later today.
Very useful link for improving visual quality: http://www.sureai.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=4278
It sounds good. I'll have to give it a try after im finished with Planescape Torment :), which is another very good game.
Would it work on Oldblivion?
My computer is rather old.
I don't use it myself. I know Nehrim it uses the same engine and I've read it might work. You should to try asking in http://www.oldblivion.com/sm/
Just finished it recently, thats the first time I have ever played through it. Its a very good game even by todays standards. I've had a lot of time off over the holidays 🙂
I recently started Baldurs gate TBP (The Big Picture) which among hundreds of other additions allows you to play through every baldurs gate game in the BG2 throne of Bhaal engine as one continuous game 🙂
I'm a WildMage-Drow in BG1 (Whichis a class and race you could never play in that game) if that means anything to you 😆
Sorry for the offtopic hehe.
