Below is a list of mods that work in the new mod structure as of Alpha 24.

The files that simply end with -V1.zip were not built to be mod compatible and as such some features (pilot models, scanners objects etc) are not usable in this format and they may even crash your game if the mod is not used without some of the other mods.

Over time I will be stripping these features/functionality out of the models so they are at least stable. If you have any issues/bug reports etc with any mod listed here please post in this thread.

If you have a mod ( or any other files Pioneer related ) whether it is currently Alpha 24 mod file compatible or not post it here http://spacesimcentr... along with who should be credited. I will then add it to the mod/file list or attempt to get it into a mod file if it is not already in the correct format.

If you want to get your work into the actual release of Pioneer rather than an add on then to quote Brianetta "All content included with Pioneer must be released under a GPLv2 compatible license" and if your work applies then read this thread http://spacesimcentr...o-get-involved/

If you have had your work added to the release version of Pioneer can you let me know and I can de-list the mod as it would no longer be required.

Red = Data file version. Extract the files and folders to your Pioneer/data directories (this may overwrite core games files and result in other mods not being compatible)

Green = Mod format. Drop the .zip files into your mods directory

If you know who should be credited with any of the following please let me know and I'll update the read me's, similarly if you are the content author/owner and do not give permission for your work to be used here please let me know and I will ensure its removal.

All files below that have no name after the - and before the V#.zip were supplied by gernot/p66 (though not necessarily created by him)

Those icons look great vuzz. Just to let you know that to be a24 mod compatible you need to use the.zip format. and you don't need to use full path for the directory..

so i have changed you files to zip and the first folder is icons and then the files. Hope that makes sense.

Also sorry about the YT1300, but I obviously am new and do not know the history of all the work here. So is the entire YT1300 your work (models, textures etc)?

I'll get the missiles and ecm uploaded now...

Ok this is good <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//nyam.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> , one mod thread to unite them all. This is just what I need for ModDB. I have been wanting to post shots of all the cool models that have been made, but if I do I must be able to provide links so that the peeps on there can get at them. It would be so much easier if they were all in just one thread, ( <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> winks back at Metamatrian).

So I have a few suggestions <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//meeting.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ,

Firstly, the admins on here need to lock this thread and only allow designated members (I suggest the model makers and updaters themselves with the option for new contributors to be added to the "allowed list" by asking the admins) to edit it (or add posts) as new models are created.

The reason for this is for clarity, remember there may be people who visit the thread who are unfamiliar with who designed what or where to look for more info. I would further suggest you divide the models up according to what alpha they are for, across new posts in this thread. If a model is updated, move it to the appropriate post. Since the thread started with Alpha 24, the next post could contain models for Alpha 25, after that, Alpha 26 and so on.

Secondly, all other posts made thus far (except the first one), should be deleted (including this one)

This way, this thread can remain clear and be a one stop shop for those seeking to mod their copy of Pioneer.

Thirdly, the sister thread to this "Completed models for Pioneer" should be linked in this thread so that those interested in the dev process of a model can check that out.

Fourthly, could the model's creator be part of it's file name eg: Ships-Bloodrunner-P66-Pioneer-a24-V1.zip

That way people can tell at a glance who made what.

Fifthly, All models must come with a little note containing installation instructions and possible issues included within it's archive - you know how to install it, I know how to install it, but others new to Pioneer may not.

And finally, it would be very helpful if each model had a screenshot that accompanies it. That way (on ModDB) I can post a shot of it and a link and who created it plus once in the download area it will look nicer. Pictures can do wonders for downloads <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

These are just my thoughts, basically keep the thread clear of enquiring posts ("Completed Models For Pioneer" can be the thread for that), make it as easy as possible for people to get at them, what alpha the model is for, what it looks like and who created it. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//drinks.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_drink1.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Sounds like a good idea to me...do I just ask an SSC admin or is there somebody more specific?

Since the thread started with Alpha 24, the next post could contain models for Alpha 25, after that, Alpha 26 and so on. This could become difficult to keep clear if we allow others to post in this thread so how about we have this mods listing purely for listing the mods and another thread where people can post their links and data (like the completed models thread perhaps?

Secondly, all other posts made thus far (except the first one), should be deleted (including this one)

This way, this thread can remain clear and be a one stop shop for those seeking to mod their copy of Pioneer. I can certainly arrange that <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thirdly, the sister thread to this "Completed models for Pioneer" should be linked in this thread so that those interested in the dev process of a model can check that out. Will do that shortly when I edit the OP again!

Fourthly, could the model's creator be part of it's file name eg: Ships-Bloodrunner-P66-Pioneer-a24-V1.zip

That way people can tell at a glance who made what. Already kind of did with the bit before the V1.zip (Spazeman, wa, vuzz etc) but only on the files i know for definite who provided them, hence why i asked if anybody knows who contributed what so I can edit them once there were all uploaded.

Fifthly, All models must come with a little note containing installation instructions and possible issues included within it's archive - you know how to install it, I know how to install it, but others new to Pioneer may not. I did include a mod read me for most of them with instructions and credits but again I can verify and update that once I had go them all uploaded and listed and then amend the read me again if needs be.

And finally, it would be very helpful if each model had a screenshot that accompanies it. That way (on ModDB) I can post a shot of it and a link and who created it plus once in the download area it will look nicer. Pictures can do wonders for downloads <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> That I can do but I have a basic laptop with no shader support and currently using the CTRL+PrintScreen crashes my game which the devs are helping me to resolve.

These are just my thoughts, basically keep the thread clear of enquiring posts ("Completed Models For Pioneer" can be the thread for that), make it as easy as possible for people to get at them, what alpha the model is for, what it looks like and who created it. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//drinks.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_drink1.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> thanks for the comments and input. Always welcome from someone with more experience than me <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_razz.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-P' />

Yep, Darkone or Pinback are the admins. They can be the gatekeepers of the thread, only modmakers should be allowed to make additions or changes to the thread. But I don't know how to do this, perhaps Darkone can advise on this one as this thread cant be like any other thread on here. It would need special permissions.

Agreed, this thread is should just be for links to the main download archive itself. I suggested different posts for each alpha to give a sense of history to the project and nominated others being able to do so, so that it's not just poor you being inundated with loads of models to include info here and the main download archive. Standardising the process for all mods makes it easier for everyone.

Yes, this can be tricky, its up to the contributors to make it clear what they have done, see above note on standardising.

Thats the reason there should be more than one person who can mod the thread with new info. Its a community Metamartian, so get others to help you. Come on you mod makers, help Metamartian out, this is your thread too! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//drinks.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_drink1.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Just saw you post there Vuzz, this is why someone like yourself should be able to mod the OP. You could add your changes to the P66 X-wing below the existing one, or if your changes are already in the main archive, have a joint credit file name, eg: P66-Vuzz- X-Wing <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

@ Metamartian ,

you cretited to me the X-wing, but i'm not the autor of this model , its P66 , the one i've post is just a variant of the original model.

Vuzz, you fell into my trap <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I did not credit you with the x-wing. Your name is included in the filename as it is a variant provided by you. so if i had the p66 model it would have been called Ships-X-Wing-Pioneer-a24-V1.zip (as all the p66/gernot supplied mods do not currently have his name in them)

and in the mod read me it states...

Known Credits:-

gernot - model

Vuzz - R2D2 and other modifications

i listed gernot as the model provider becuase that is as far as i can trace it. I know he sometimes made models and sometimes converted them, but unless someone can actually tell me who create the model then the credit goes to gernot as the provided of the model for the mod. I hope this makes sense.

the name inclusion in the filename is for who create the variant and not all the contributors (that is left for the readme) as if we listed all the people who may have contributed to each file the filenames would end up enormous.

Thanks Geraldine, certainly for now I beleive the persons that should have access at the moment are you, me, vuzz, marcel and walterar, kviki and spazeman (and gernot/p66/potsmoke but I have not seem here much lately and why so many different names!) as these are for sure the people who have content to contribute. If there is anyone else you know of can you let me know (or Darkone anyway <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> )

I'm having further talks with walterar about some problems with the models. The issue is I quickly hacked away at the ones from gernot to learn a bit of lua and get them to run as mod files in alpha 24 (they needed some code replaced as the their use was no longer supported in a24 and needed to be repackaged) without taking into account the consequences/conflicts and some of the features gernot implemented do not work as they should in this mod format. There are a lot of files which are the same in each mod which I beleive can be stripped out to make them small in size and more efficient and future proof. Currently some of the models would require the replacement of the core files to run idividually which would bugger up the non modified ships. So my aim is to start again from scratch and attempt to bring the ships upto a proper mod standard which will take a while as I am learning on the job so to speak.

that said, I'd still like to keep the ships available so people can see what is possible.

It would appear that if you have them all installed there is not problem but if you only have a couple installed then conflicts occur and the game crashes or does not startup.

Ok Darkone got back to me. He can lock the thread only allowing you Metamartian to post and edit it. Also he came up with an ingenious idea, if an upload is made to the Pioneer Mods archive in the downloads area, it just might be possible for the forum to automatically update this thread. And failing all that he could create a special sub forum, just for the mods. How about that Metamartian?

Yea, I thought it would take a lot of the work out of maintaining the thread. All you would have to do is tweak it every now and then, but for it to work, the mod makers will have to agree to sticking to a standardised ways of uploading their mods -:

proper filename conventions (Ship/Buildings/Ambiance/Mission/Total_Conversion (TC) ect + What Alpha its for.

EG: Elite_IV_TC_Beta26 <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_crazy.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (I wish)

Folders in the download area

Could be split up depending on Alpha/Beta/Version 1.0 ect then further split up depending on what the mod does and finally by Author

EG MkII In the above example: We have a bright young coder who joins the SSC and happens to have the same name as a famous dev. The download file structure would look something like this

Pioneer_Mods/Beta26/Total_Conversions/David_Braben/Elite_IV_TC_Beta26.zip <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//haha.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Having little pictures in each mod archive means people looking for files get to see a nice range of pictures instead of a lot of boring file names where you might miss the mod your looking for.

That should make finding the mod your looking for much easier, especially so when you use this thread to navigate to it. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//read.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hi Geraldine, I've done some more reading and thinking.

I'm not going to break my neck and get everything upgraded that needs it. I will go through and get the existing gernot models stripped of their mod incompatibilities but I am not going to invest days/weeks into adding back certain sub models or functionality given that the modelling system is going to change. I will strip the current models I have back to a compatible level with core lua's only and not the one's gernot created for the old system of overwriting files.

What this means is if the ship model calls for gernot's big scanner, or new squad signs etc then i will strip it out. This way people can still have the amended ship chassis or re-designed original chassis with extra textures etc.

So long story short Darkone does not need to faff about with the auto updater thing just yet as it may be better to wait until the new modelling system is out...(unless he want to try it anyway <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> )

I will however keep this thread updated and get the rest of the ships upload for completeness etc

Hope you can see the sense in this.

Absolutely, there is no way you should be left to do all this all on your own. It would (over time) become a massive job as like you said, the game is still at alpha so things can change very quickly with regards to requirements for mods. My ideas came from looking at what the people over on the Oolite board do with their OXPs. They have 100s of them, but they guys have worked out a pretty good system for adding mods to their OXP archive and its well organised too.

If mod makers can upload their files to the right part of the Pioneer Mods archive, that would be a great start.

And Metamartian, you have done great work in updating Gernot's models, anyone who helps the project is a hero in my books! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//girl_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Vuzz, I don't think that will work as a mod. My understanding is that it needs to be in .zip format, not .7z.. A person would have to extract it to a folder, then .zip it back up. I haven't tried it. I see we're both trying to bring Gernot's big crappy back to life. Your version would be better than mine because I altered it so it wouldn't use his sub-models. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Vuzz

The operation of Pioneer-mod, is simple.

You put the mod file compressed with ZIP, inside the folder /mod

Pioneer will handle uncompress and apply.

You try it.

If you do not like, or not working, you remove the MOD, and the system returns to its original state.

A MOD, NEVER replace a file that contains the elements essential to the operation of original models of the system. Unless this is the desired behavior.

A MOD, NEVER modify the system permanently.

Maybe someone who knows the English language can make a mod guide easier to understand.

@Geraldine, I turn to you because it may be the most know the story of Pioneer.

I need to know who the authors of the official models. Ie, ships, buildings, stations, etc.

This is important because in the readme.txt should be the credits. And the addition of a detail of which is the modification has been done and on what file

Wow, thats a question and a half walterar! Tomm created the first models seen in the game when he originally coded the game for example, the Sirius Interdictor which was the very first ship in the game. I think thats the only model of his still left in the game, all the buildings have been replaced.

John Jordan (the creator of JJFFE) does loads of stuff in the project. I have seen his influences throughout the game.

Uncle Bob's Lanner is the first model you see when stating the game and it too was converted from FFE3D

Most of the Elite ships were originally created by Gernot, but they have been modded for every Alpha, sometimes by Gernot himself, sometimes by others. He also created some buildings, adverts and God only knows what else too and is Pioneer's most prolific model maker

Marcel created the Ladybird, stations (especially landing bays), cool new landing pads (although they are not in the official game yet)

s20dan also did models as well as his wonderful work on stars, and planets

The present buildings were created by Vlastan

Brianetta I am sure has also modded alot of the games content as has Robn and Luomu too

Philbywizz did the Mac conversion, what an incredible amount of work that must have been!

Vuzz as you know, tweaked the Mil Falcon and he is correct about David Braben, and also Ian Bell, without those two there would be no inspiration.

Steve Tyler originally created the beautiful Viper model for FFE3D then Gernot converted it. Also the cockpit I think was redone by him. I really wish he would come back to the project as he had buckets of talent and some great ideas for the game.

Basically there is a whole lot of people who update models, convert them from other sources, add cool details like icons, planet pictures and other behind the scenes work that you never see, but without it there simply wouldn't be a game.

Every name I have mentioned above are all heros and I am grateful to each and everyone of them for helping to bring my eternal dream of having a new modern Elite game. Also apologies to any I have missed as not all the contrubtors post very often on here.

You can always check out the Author's txt file in the Pioneer folder, I will re-produced it below, its the Alpha 24 version
