I like the shorter buildings. They make the city seem like they are a bit more vast.
IMO, there are a couple of shortcomings: it happens more often to find building buried in the ground, and it reduces variety (and, at the moment, we don't have very much variety in the cities). I think that, to have some variations, some little groups of skyscrapers should remain.
Maybe, the cities should be reorganizied in a more rational way, with the starport being placed outside the main city (who wants to live in a place near those architectural monsters that covers most of sky and with all those ships constantly coming and going away? ), or someway isolated.
You can download the 201306.17 version of Pioneer Space Sim for Linux32
robn has fixed the problem.
Continue to enjoy! 🙂
Wow... just tried out the linux32 version and not only did it work flawlessly I got a pretty decent performance boost compared to win32... even in windows!
This is an excellent work robn, who has managed that work Pioneer, natively, in Ubuntu LTS (and others) easily. Just need to try it.
ping @Marcel 🙂
Surely you mean a favorite of my grandson, the "Inter Shuttle". One of the latest works by Gernot, an artist crazy, missing in action.
🙂

It's coming...
Pioneer Scout + G7 version
I just had an idea for more kinds of scout missions 🙂
Hacking missions
Just like scout missions, but with more risks. You have to sabotage/steal data from bulk ships/big ships/spaceports's computers.
Maybe you could need a special equipment, or just use the Radar Mapper like in scout missions. You have to go near your target, start the hacking process and wait. If you are far there's more lag, so the process will take more time. You could hire a hacker into you crew to speed up the process. There's a chance to be caught. In that case, you'll have to fight, or your ship could be counter-hacked (some equipment will be damaged).
More difficult mission are with moving targets (ships). You have to approach them and keep some distance while the process is working.
But I meant ethical hackers! Those who hack bad person's ships (and you decide who are the bad ones) 😉
"John Scout (or Johanna Scout) is not a vigilante..." 🙂
Ok... ok... 😉

I'm curious , explain me the ethic of hacking ?
I'm curious , explain me the ethic of hacking ?
The subject is complex and prone to misunderstanding. Even the word "hacker" is often interpreted in different ways. Maybe this interview with Richard Stallman could interest you: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/rms-hack.html
To avoid going too much off topic, I explain what I was thinking when I said "ethical hacking": a romantic equivalent of the "ethical stealing" (although "steal" is an improper word) of Robin Hood.
When done for socio-political purposes, it could be defined "hacktivism".
In science fiction, you can find lots of novels about hacking and hackers in the cyberpunk sub-genre. Neuromancer by William Gibson is the most famous novel. Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson another nice one. In the book Excession of the Culture series, which could be defined a "space opera", by Iain M Banks, you could read about ship's Minds (future counscious AIs which thought are formed in the hyperspace) hacking and being hacked.
Enjoy this.
Very good work with this experience parameter ^^ GG

okay ^^ i see what you mean , i'm a fan of Jack Vance but always read in french ... i gest this concept of hacking is very present in his work.
yes ,sort of robin hood tranposed in sci fi ^^ I like that .
In the best tradition of Elite, it is so small (only 39.4 Mb) yet it does so much!
