I like the shorter buildings. They make the city seem like they are a bit more vast.

IMO, there are a couple of shortcomings: it happens more often to find building buried in the ground, and it reduces variety (and, at the moment, we don't have very much variety in the cities). I think that, to have some variations, some little groups of skyscrapers should remain.

Maybe, the cities should be reorganizied in a more rational way, with the starport being placed outside the main city (who wants to live in a place near those architectural monsters that covers most of sky and with all those ships constantly coming and going away?  ), or someway isolated.

"Year 3200. These are not buildings. These are points of contact with the surface. The cities are underground. And very resistant to impacts, as you will see playing Scout +. Imagine."

That was the explanation I gave my 10 year old grandson. I had no complaints. He loves his grandfather.

For the rest, I agree with you but, it is what allows the kernel code, so far.

Warning!

The file of the 201306.17 version of Pioneer linux32 on SourceForge is corrupt.

Reported in issue #2335 to GitHub.

Do not download this versión to Linux32 until they @robn fix this.

Versions for Win32 and Linux64 work correctly.

Pioneer is back in OSX.

In addition, major changes now allow Pioneer run on Linux without having to install dependencies "difficult". This is good news for users of Ubuntu LTS (12.04)

Download the new version of Pioneer Space Sim 1306.21 from here: Win32 Linux32 Linux64 OSX

Then, download and install Scout+ to here:  PioneerScoutPlus-G6

Continue to enjoy! 🙂

@NeuralKernel

This is an excellent work robn, who has managed that work Pioneer, natively, in Ubuntu LTS (and others) easily. Just need to try it.

ping @Marcel 🙂

Surely you mean a favorite of my grandson, the "Inter Shuttle". One of the latest works by Gernot, an artist crazy, missing in action.

I just had an idea for more kinds of scout missions 🙂

Hacking missions

Just like scout missions, but with more risks. You have to sabotage/steal data from bulk ships/big ships/spaceports's computers.

Maybe you could need a special equipment, or just use the Radar Mapper like in scout missions. You have to go near your target, start the hacking process and wait. If you are far there's more lag, so the process will take more time. You could hire a hacker into you crew to speed up the process. There's a chance to be caught. In that case, you'll have to fight, or your ship could be counter-hacked (some equipment will be damaged).

More difficult mission are with moving targets (ships). You have to approach them and keep some distance while the process is working.

A game is a world with its own rules. A golden rule in Scout+ is "Crime does not pay".

John Scout (or Johanna Scout) is not a vigilante or a criminal.

He (or she) is a war orphan in search of his destiny.  His father was a hero.

But do not worry, in Scout+ G7, hackers appear along the way.

But I meant ethical hackers! Those who hack bad person's ships (and you decide who are the bad ones) 😉

I'm curious , explain me the ethic of hacking ?

The subject is complex and prone to misunderstanding. Even the word "hacker" is often interpreted in different ways. Maybe this interview with Richard Stallman could interest you: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/rms-hack.html

To avoid going too much off topic, I explain what I was thinking when I said "ethical hacking": a romantic equivalent of the "ethical stealing" (although "steal" is an improper word) of Robin Hood.

When done for socio-political purposes, it could be defined "hacktivism".

In science fiction, you can find lots of novels about hacking and hackers in the cyberpunk sub-genre. Neuromancer by William Gibson is the most famous novel. Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson another nice one. In the book Excession of the Culture series, which could be defined a "space opera", by Iain M Banks, you could read about ship's Minds (future counscious AIs which thought are formed in the hyperspace) hacking and being hacked.

It's here!

Pioneer Scout+ G7

News

This month we have in Pioneer, thanks to Shipyard Nozmajner two new spacecraft:

'Mola Mola Light Transport'

Mola-Mola-Light-Transport.png

...and 'Pumpkinseed'.

Pumpkinseed.png

To these are added two versions balanced for the Scout+ :

'Mola Mola MK2', very fast and maneuverable,

Mola-Mola-MK2.png

and 'Pumpkinseed T1', economic version of 'Pumpkinseed', known as 'Small Courier' in version G6.

PumpkinseedT1.png

In Scout+ we now have a total of 25 active ships for the game.

It incorporates the concept of "experience in missions". Also now you can see the number of shots that have impacted your ship, and the shots that you are right.

ScoutExperience-G7-4.png

Now, you must prove an experience of at least five successful missions to access some important missions.

ScoutExperience-G7-1.png

ScoutExperience-G7-2.png

ScoutExperience-G7-3.png

Significant improvements in the combat situations in the missions. Due the current deficiencies of the core AI Pioneer, now, Scout+ prevents the emergence of hostile in exit hyperspace. Which caused, in most cases, a forced game end. Now, the attackers appear only if the distance to the destination station is less than 1 AU. allowing the option of fighting or evading to complete the mission.

Download free from here:  Pioneer Scout+ G7

Applicable to Pioneer Space Sim 201306.17 (or higher), all platforms.

Download free from here "Pioneer Space Sim 201307.14" to:  Win32  Linux32  Linux64  OSX

Enjoy this.

Remember...

How to install Pioneer Mods

It is Plug and Play Is not permanent changes. Absolutly secure.

To use in a clear install of Pioneer.

You have two options for adding Mods:

In Windows:

My DocsPioneerMods <put here the mod, in Pioneer mod format>

Eg. My DocsPioneerModsPioneerScoutPlus-G7.zip

Pioneer manage only .zip, not .7z

Other form (for developers or modders)

Create a data folder in your userdir.

Eg. My DocsPioneerdata<unzip here the "mod", in Pioneer mod format>

Understand something, or too much confusing? Please, correct me if bad English.

In the best tradition of Elite, it is so small (only 39.4 Mb) yet it does so much!

You think you're bad shooting?

Now you know how many shots your opponent received.
