Elite classic video games remake seeking backers
David Braben is turning to KickStarter to fund a remake of Elite.
Also of note, funding for it went up more than £1000 between me posting the link and tabbing back to the KickStarter page... I suspect it will achieve it's funding!
*gasp* Elite 4!? *swoons*
Pioneer got a mention on the BBC article as well! o/
Multiplayer support as well. That's going to put it head-to-head with Eve... and Star Citizen i would guess. March 2014 estimated release. Hmmm... so Pioneer will be on Alpha 44 by that stage! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//shok.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':O' />
We did! Cool I didn't even notice that on my first skim read (I'm at work)
thunk. Just gave Dave 75 quid.
Now get to work!!!!
Although personally I would much prefer to have the option to fly the ships like Frontier/FFE as I totally enjoy how those ships handle.
You do have the option, right here in Pioneer <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
C'mon Fluffy, you know I love me some Pioneer <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//preved.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I got asked about it by a few people, so I wrote a bit of a response so that I don't have to keep repeating myself.

My opinions only, doesn't reflect those of Pioneer itself (whatever that means).
Spot on with your comments Robn, the Elite announcement doesn't effect in any way, my admiration for Pioneer. Its here, it's working and it's bloody marvellous. Sure, I pledged toward the kickstarter, but if or when its finished it will have to sit in the same folder as Oolite, FFE3D and Pioneer on my hard drive.
Also, had a look at the traffic on the ModDB site, there has been a small spike of hits. Perhaps the announcement can actually help Pioneer as it is still the only FE2 re-make out there.

This is what we'd put on the box if there ever was one.

PIoneer ships handle exactly the way FE2 ships did except with the add bonus of being able to barrel-roll. It even uses the same keyboard commands (although why Hyperspace was moved from F8 to F7 (the old toggle for manual/off/autopilot) eludes me - there was a while where I kept going to kill Autopilot and jumping out of the system!! Ha ha).
I am keen to see Dave succeed because like everyone I still love those games, but I am a huge fan of Pioneer and am happy to hear you guys will keep developing it.

It will be better, when Braben start work on Elite IV...

I think that Elite: Dangerous is Elite IV - a much better title!
