Now if he'd been busy flying his plane instead of listening to crappy distracting music, he would have realised that he was jamming his fist on the Wrong Button. πŸ˜† In case you mised that, the guy tried activating his VTOL engines to escape, instead of his main engine πŸ˜‰

A Journey Through Space is a free compilation album using Korg synthesizers. It has song titles reminiscent of Holst's Planets Suite, but the songs don't seem to express the Planets described. It ranges from electro-pop to ambient. You may find a couple of tracks in there that you'll want to add to your Pioneer sound folders, when that option becomes available.

A Symphony of Science is another free album inspired by Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

Edit: just thought of another. Music From Outer Space is free music from Ray Wilson, who builds and sells the electronic instruments used in these tracks. Synth classics, pop covers and some ambient stuff that I really like.

I made a music clip of a new chillout number I made. At 1.29 in the Vid I used a movie I recorded in Fraps out of Pioneer. I credited Pioneer at the end of the vid.

I still want to contribute some music to the game. I will start soon. !

In the meantime check my vid:

I know this is a revival of an old thread, but I've become a bit bored with the music that's included in Pioneer. It's not that I don't like it, I do. I've just been craving more variety. In FFED3D I put in a bunch of mp3 files from other sources to spice things up a bit, but Pioneer uses the ogg format and I couldn't find much that I wanted to use. I did a search today for a free file converter and found this.

http://spider-player.com/

It converts just about anything to ogg and does it well. The midi files from Noctis actually sound much better. Listening to the main theme from FFE while approaching Gates Spaceport was awesome! πŸ˜€ It finished when I was just outside the "gate" and then switched to the Minute Waltz as I entered. 😎 I now have a nice mix of old and new music. It's for Windows only, I'm afraid, but I thought I'd share. πŸ™‚

The music included in Pioneer is very good, but the time is tiring and monotonous.

In Linux use SoundConverter to convert mp3 to ogg.

Vega Strike ( http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/ ) uses .ogg and there's some pretty nice tracks on there, I wonder if they would be happy to let us use some of those?

Wouldn't hurt to ask, but for our own personal copies I'm sure it'd be fine.

I think whatever tracks you choose for a soundtrack, eventually you will want a change. I've noticed with a few games that they use a very sublime background music to create a "feel" to the current situation. For example Fallout 3, it has an endless tune playing quietly in the background while you wander about, if you get attacked it becomes a bit more tense while remaining subtle. Its not really meant to be heard. Far Cry 2 does this also. I think that would work well with Pioneer if you got it right. It doesn't stop you putting actual tracks over the top either if you wanted. Rather like listening to Galaxy News Radio. (Sorry to all the Fallout 3 haters out there...)

I'm quite happy with the music myself, and as you say if I get bored I can always copy or add my own music files into Pioneer, or even just have my own music playing in the background using wmp or any other player.

I'd love to produce some music for Pioneer too!

I cannot promise anything on short basis, but I'll try to have at least something for the next month, even a teaser.

Also, I think the idea of having different music cues for different places (planets, docking, etc) would be totally awesome.

Anyway, I love doing "space" music, and I'll try to start doing as soon as I can.

See ya all!

I like the music in Pioneer but I have also customised it with some tracks from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC DC, David Bowie, Crosby, Stills Nash &Young, America, The Eagles, Peter Green & the later Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Yes classic Rock is alive and well in the future! πŸ˜†

Valhalla I am coming! .............. 😳

And for exploring desert planets

I like it! Although you may not find that to be a complement considering what I posted. πŸ˜† And yes, I do have some of those tracks in my 'space' folder. I also have some oldies, the soundtrack to Forbidden Planet for example, and if you can find it, try 'Music From Outer Space' by Frank Comstock. Very Star Trek TOS-like.

Edit: Here's something we might all like. This is a free midi file, convert it to ogg, stick it in your 'space' folder and smoke it - um, I mean, play it. πŸ™‚ I tried to post the converted file for you, but it was too big.

why, is it made with a "Theremin" (ætherphone)?

edit: wrong guessing, i thought i've read once TOS soundtrack was made with a theremin.

the theremin was invented in 1920 by Lev Sergeivich Termen (Léon Theremin), a very simple synthesizer based on the varying capacity of a electrical field, when it's disturbed by another capacitive loaded body (a human hand i.e.).

the original instrument is very simply build without any semiconductors (1920, of course).

once i found the original circuits layout in the web, there exists many kits for the theremin, but most are semiconductor based new layouts.

copyright holder of the original layout is RCA if i'm not wrong (unfortunately...).

anyway here's something that lets you know how it sounded and still sounds,

it's not that i really like this, just as an info,

i guess you've got a computer to.

i found "Project: Comstock - Music From Outer Space" the whole album here,

http://otherworldsounds.blogspot.com/20 ... stock.html

it's worth to browse his blog, more music played on the theremin,

http://otherworldsounds.blogspot.com/se ... Electronic

[/hr]

btw, if we havn't those filesharers how could we exchange our impressions?

i was looking a few days ago for a special classical recording "vivaldi - concerti con molti strumenti", it's available yes, but does music industry really believe i pay >1$ for a mp3 each tempi? or buy a CD for 40$? crazy? if can get the record in a shop where i can listen to it first?

always arguing about piracy and minor sales, change the way of thinking.

i own >200 LP's and >200 CD's (i have no idea how many really), any questions?

statistically seen the people who download and share music are people who have already a large collection of records.

apart from that, you can't find each and every record you like to listen to in a "legal" way.

i have a classical LP recorded in the 30's under the HMV label, never found the record in the archive of HMV, like it wouldn't have existed, am i free now to spread this?

i guess no!

biggest music pirates was industry itself, already back in the days of "vaudville" they had agents (spys to tell it right), who lurked around in the streets and cafe's where they played new scores, quickly they wrote down every note and often they had the production finished before the original artists had a chance to publish it.

is that lawful? is that right?

isn't that organized crime?

"rabbit, bear, come - we've got work to do"

all this so called "copyright infringement" goes to far, i was visiting a page of the inherits of a german comedian. "abmahner" (free working lawyers who search only for copyright infringements) have charged the keepers of the page with 4000Ã’Ò€ő¬ for posting prosa of the artist in the forum of the site. πŸ‘Ώ

a forum is to me something like a enhanced very large lounge table, where we sit and talk about "idontknow". well how long does it take until they come into my house to hear what we've been talking resp. recite? (fortunately in switzerland this still isn't allowed, but how long?)

oral basket...

The music industry is still like this today πŸ™‚ At least still stealing and using bits that they shouldn't.

BAck when I was younger I was into Drum and Bass, as it turns out all the famous Drum and Bass artists/tune writers would rip off entire tracks from old Jazz/Soul/Blues bands.

Adam F, Grooverider, Ronnie Size, Goldie, Just a handful of more famous D&B names that got really rich doing that πŸ™‚

But, thats what music is all about. These guys shaped music for a generation despite releasing illegal tracks πŸ™‚

Cheers hehe. Its kind of inspired by Vangelis, the Greek God of Music lol. And I ripped off Phil Collins (day in paradise) and Battlestar Galactica (along the watchtower) for chords πŸ˜‰

Thanks for the link to the blog Gernot! Lots of interesting music to explore. πŸ˜€

Btw, would someone please give me a hint about how to get the music player to play more than two songs in a category before it stops? Ideally I'd like it to play continuously, but increasing the plays to a large number would work too. I'm looking at the code and I'm confused. πŸ™„
