To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hello all,

Just a quick one really. Why do so few ships have a cargo scoop? I've not managed to find one yet. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//fie.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fie:' /> Also what about lasers? Is it that there just are none? or is it intentional that there's no 'continuous' lasers or have I just not found one? anyway...

Having just about read most of this forum now, I beleive that the combat side of pioneer has not be decided and thus the weapons etc have not really been the focus (as it's more important to be able to fly around etc). so i think the final design on weapons and combat mechanics are still up for the devs to debate.

As for cargo scoop, you can buy these in the shipyard but as you mention only some ships support this. I have not delved too far into the game yet (and I can not double check as I am at work) but I "think" the ship needs to be cargo scoop enabled in it's .lua file (actually have a cargo scoop model coded in), so this maybe a case of the ship designer did not beleive that class of ship should have a scoop or that he did not include it.

Still I am sure someone who has been around a lot longer than I will point out if I am wrong....

Yes a ship must have a cargo scoop assigned in the .lua. And last time I checked you also had to create a surface which if any cargo were to hit this surface, it is scooped up by the ship... That probably doesn't make sense <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Basically this 'surface' is where you can imagine the cargo scoop sits, any cargo hitting the surface or scoop, is picked up by the ship.

eran100 what this means is, that unless some goes and codes a cargo scoop into more of the ships you are stuck with the 4 (I think) ships that currently support cargo scoops.

Remember though that Pioneer is in alpha, the core game is always evolving as is the ability to add new ships, stars systems etc to the game. There are already 10+ ships that you can download seperately and fly around in not too mention new spacestations and ports.

Give it time, it will come.

This is not a question but I have been reading some old threads and found myself at Robns' http://imgur.com/a/uU7l6#0 page...seeing the image if Austrailia in hyperspace made me laugh <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

**Edit** took a closer look at that image, I was wrong it was not hyperspace..booo

Also from the same thread how is the new UI coming? some of the mock ups I saw look brilliant and I for one can not wait to see the back of the eye melting solid blue screen of the dock!

That one is a mock-up done by Friendly, the same chap that did the current panel graphics. Its something I've been working towards for many months, but there's a surprising amount of ground work required.

I do have a large amount of a new Lua-driven UI system implemented on a branch. Its coming well but is slow and rather mentally draining work. I'm taking a break from it at the moment (not least because I'm about to go overseas for a few weeks for work) but I hope to have it usable before the end of the year.

But of course that only means there will be new foundational stuff in place to build fancy interfaces, animations and other bits and pieces. Initially it'll look mostly the same <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I can only imagine. My brain fries at the mere prospect of understanding the ship.lua's let alone the actual complex work <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//hi.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hi:' />

I just wondered how the work was coming on since I have been trawling the older threads in an attempt to catch up on what I missed. Thanks for the update RobN.

Oh and I hope you are off to somewhere nice regardless of the fact it is for work <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
