To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Is discussing non-photorealistic space background forbidden? 😈

'cos embedding something like http://alexcpeterson.com/portfolio/spacescape ... with a more "realistic" twist of course, might be nicer than the current white points.

It is something of a taboo yes 😉

But on the other hand, the most beautiful nebula I ever did see, was a real one 🙂 So lets add in real nebula.. eventually.

Im not sure exactly but I reckon if you were only a few LY away from a nebula you would probably be able to make out a lot of details and colours provided you had an IR camera.

The nebulae are already there. They just don't show up at your resolution. (-:

I'm so happy! At last people who feel like me. Ever seen Star Trek Online? They even put large drapes of blue nebulae around Earth! What a disaster.

Maybe there's room for a few exceptions for systems far, far away. Maybe towards the galactic core. But otherwise ...

I mean ... where's the nearest nebula anyway? Pleiades?

That illustrates nicely how far we have to go when it comes to rendering bright things. Those background stars should be invisibly dim with that thing in sight. Depending on the atmosphere, the sky probably shouldn't be black either...

Still, it's an awesome sight.

Well considering HDR does that for you, then its not far at all 😉 (Its(star dimming) already there)

But if HDR is in-fact active then there's a bug and it should be reported.

Edit// Forgot to mention those pics are bloody awesome, except of course for the 'bug?' with hdr. 🙂

So where is Canbewa?

Was wondering that myself. Its hard to tell if HDR is actually on or not from the pics.. The main sun has no hdr-type glow and stars aren't dim, but by contrast the planet's atmosphere and the smaller star do have some sort of glow.. So 2 for and 2 against 🙂

Hi sorry should have posted that in the screenshot Canbewa is at -28-32,15 found it

as I move jump by jump towards the core I think it going to take a while to get there,

also HDR is not on. I am above the planet nearest to the star the sun facing side

of the planet is awash in bright light it looks very hot.

Excellent! It's been added to my travelling script:

Just save that to data/modules and look for me on the bulletin board (:

One of my favorite places is my own home town.

I've been working on the pad, and thought this composition looked kind of cool. I'll upload it soon so we can all have one!

That's a very nice pad you have there - can't wait to see it in the master branch! 🙂

Marcel, great work there 😎

Had a little thought looking at the pad. Would it be possible to have 4 landing lights that flash in sequence, say as a cross shape, move sequentially in toward the centre?

You mean like the space station docking lights in FE2/FFE? That would look cool. Of course it's possible... if I could figure out how to program it.

I wish I knew too 🙁 , little tweaks like that can really enhance the immersion factor. Even without the lights though, it's still looks mighty fine Marcel. Kind of reminds me of the landing pads they had in the old TV series Space 1999 at Moonbase Alpha 😎

That was one of my inspirations, and probably Philbywhizz's, too. I'm pretty sure I can do the lights, It'll just take some time to figure out. I had a look at color coding the lights on the Elite station (red, orange, green based on status), but haven't gotten it to work yet. Tonight however, I'm going to tweak the side windows a bit.
