To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hello! I heard you were looking for translators, but I don't have access to Freenode atm, in that my computer is being repaired and I'm stuck on library computers with all manner of usage restrictions. More details, please? Thanks!
Hi!
We do need translators. We keep all our files on Github.com.
We have two sets of language files to translate.
First:
It might be best if you play the game, and see where the various bits of language appear, and in what context.
This issue on our tracker is where I keep translators posted on new strings to be translated.
you can find the files of language fragments here in our master repository. The master language is English.txt, others should be translations of that.
The files are formatted as pairs of lines, like these:
"Game saved to "
SELECT_FILENAME_TO_LOAD
Select a file to load
COULD_NOT_OPEN_FILENAME
Could not open %path
The lines with CAPITALS_AND_UNDERSCORES are tokens, and don't change - it's how Pioneer knows what to use. After each of those is the language line, which needs to be translated. Indentation doesn't matter; leading and trailing spaces are trimmed. If a line needs a leading or trailing space, then the line must be quoted (like the first one, above). If there is something like %this or %(this), then it is an embedded token, and needs to be left unchanged. It will be replaced with some other word or number by the game.
Second:
The missions are currently only in English. We are currently developing a multi-language system for the mission scripts, and that will be detailed once we're ready for translators to have a go.
Welcome to Pioneer, and I hope you have fun here!
Hi,
please excuse my ignorance, but: if I'd like to contribute by making a translation, would I - in the Github-repository - click on 'English.txt' and then 'Fork and edit this file'? Or would it be better to copy-paste the contents of that file into a new text-file, edit it locally on my PC and upload it once done?

Zerotown

Any way you like. If doing it on Github.com doesn't work for you, you can also email the file to me, at brian@ppcis.org . Whichever email address and name you use on the email will be how your work is committed to Github.com.
Thank you for clearing that up! I'm about halfway through with a Dutch translation which I hope to finish tomorrow or the day after that. I'll mail/upload the file once done and tested!
SPACESTATION_LONG_WELCOME_MESSAGE
This token does not need to be translated properly. In fact, it can be anything you want. Translators should feel free to inject some of their own personality into this message.

You could add a comment to English.txt to that effect. It should also be noted that this text should be as vague as possible. Don't make reference to specific game elements, UI, etc as these may change and then your message is out of date.
Hi Guys,
I've been working on the Dutch translation, but haven't been able to upload it to Github. Or, rather: I've been afraid of messing things up there, so I'll post my file here. If any of you would like to upload it, I'd be grateful!

Zerotown
p.s. Brianetta: I've sent you a version of this file via e-mail, but that one might have been caught in your spam-filter. Anyhow: this one is more up-to-date!
Already sent to Brianetta and now attached here for anyone who wants.
the italian translation to PIONEER.
thanks all the dev
Yep, both the Dutch and Italian translations wound up in the spam bin. I've fished them out.
I like to have at least a name and email address for the Git commits, so do provide those if you're only going to go through the forum.
Right, those have both been committed. Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Dutch and Italian have been merged and will appear in the next nightly (and of course alpha 15). Thanks!
Hi guys,
Today, I discovered some small typo's that I tried to fix. Doing so, I ran in two issues/questions.. hope this is the right place to ask them:
1). When I try to use glyphs like รฦรยซ and รฦรยฏ, the game doesn't display them. I've noticed that the Polish glyphs do work however. Is there a special way I need to use them? (I tried saving my .txt-file as a UTF-8 instead of a 'normal' ANSI-coded file, but then the game doesn't load the language file at all).
2). When I try to edit the language file from Github, it mentions that I only have read-only access to the file and thus can't edit it directly. Github then creates a fork for me, which is nice, but somewhat confusing as well: I don't have a clue how the pull and merge actions work. I'm willing to spend time learning to do so, but just want to ask: this *is* the way editing the files is supposed to work, right?
Thanks!
UTF-8 is the required format. Try to make sure that your text editor isn't inserting a "byte order mark" into the file. This might be in the editor's options.
some editors are very bad for doing this, notepad is one such editor, if you want a good editor, try notepad+ http://www.notetab.com/ (there is a free edition that works nicely)
either of those editors will work, but yes there are more, but the above are what I recommend
edit
forget notetab, its not a fully fledge unicode editor,
this might be a better choice and free
Ah, i see.. didn't know that. Thank you both for your replies. I'll use notepad+ or notetab from here on!
ive edtied my text, I suggest you use PsPad, it has native unicode support and is free, and does support many languages, as this is for translation work, then that would be a better choice
Ah, multi-language support... that *is* handy. Thank you!
I have updated my Scottish language file again and tested it on Alpha 15, seems no bad n nat ๐
Also updated my previous entry for this file here viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2266&p=21484#p21484
That wiki page has been updated to include the new Alpha 16 translation system for Lua missions, which is an enhancement of the current one.
As an example, translators can take a look at this:
https://github.com/pioneerspacesim/pion ... vTrans.lua
It contains both the English and Polish language for the drive servicing BBS module, which has been fully converted to use this new system.
Many thanks to GizmoR13 for providing a very timely Polish translation. It helped more than you know!
Wow, great work guys! Can't wait to dig in!
Actually it'll be in alpha 15.
Great work Brianetta ๐
I have a nearly finished translation to spanish in a few days. I dont know if the text format, this is, accents and the special spanish fonts (few) is compatible with pioneer. Ex: รโรยจ (dyeresys) รโรยด(tilde/accent) รฦรยฑ (special fonetic nasal n)...
Any problem? any info? I am editing text in my basic vanilla windows notepad, is it a problem?
greetings!
