To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

LRGs in Pioneer and by the looks of things, flyable too! 😎 But what about docking? Or are these actually flying space stations?

You can't fly them.

And if you do manage to make them dock...

Yes, I can see what you mean robn, docking would be impractical for such a large ship such as the LRC. It would be nice though if they had a job to do in the game. I guess it would either need a special larger docking frame or use smaller ships within its own docking bays to transfer its payload. If they had their own docking bays, they could be used as a movable docking port or even the first stage of a colonization effort, expanding (slowly) ever outwards to populate the galaxy with colonies. Yes there is a lot of potential with these massive flying bricks. They could become an important part of the game instead of just sitting around. Also the Lynx Bulk Carriers could be used as tenders or support ships for the big LRC. Yep I hope someday these big ships have a real role in the game.

Well, the docking was just a Lua hack - normal game mechanics will never allow it to happen.

Everything else I agree with. I want to see the possibility for convoys, which might see you docked with a ship which would have minimal servicing and refueling available. When something interesting happens (ie attach), you get launched and go and save the day. I like the idea of support ships. Hopefully some day we can make it all work.

Maybe we need some space stations that can handle docking with these massive ships.

Attached to non-rotating components of course, sort of mega-tonnage only docking, like container ships today, you tend not to see too many of them trying to use mooring berths designed for yachts for example 😉

Having said that, I thought in Frontier they were remnants of earlier colonisation efforts before jump/hyperspace drives became available and were obsolete because they were too big for hyperspace... still, it's our fiction now so lets just do whatever _we_ want!

I believe that in Frontier they were supposed to have chain drives. A class one hyperdrive, that could handle repeated jumps across the interstellar void.

The huge mooring post idea was used in X2 and later. Destroyers, carriers and bulk freighters could moor next to a shipyard, and the very large corvettes could also moor at an equipment dock where there was a smaller, large berth.

I think you're confusing the lool system with the lol system! 😆

Btw, what ship are you flying there?

I am posting two new screenshots, nothing really special IMO, but Wave is such a beautiful ship... 🙄

BTW, how can I disable that text with ship's reg number? It is too distracting on screenshots.

Awesome screenshots!

Where did you find that planet? It looks like it's in a binary star system, is that correct?

Thank you 🙂

Nope, actually it is a triple system [ovation here] 😀

I found that planet in Waessess system (-26,301,81) now I am muuuch further than that system and looking for other nice things to catch on screenshots 🙂

For those that missed it, http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/11 ... -elite-ii/. Great article, and the link to us was followed a lot (according to the server logs). The screenshot that fluffyfreak is reproducing is this one:

Its funny, whenever I've thought back to Frontier, even before I knew about Pioneer, I always remembered the smooth curves of the Eagle when actually it was quite blocky. Amazing what a strong emotional attachment can do 🙂
