Karl Urban the guy who played bones in the StarTrek reboot has been offered the part of Judge Dredd in the new film.

I know a lot of the fans dismiss the Stallone film, but I do think Stallone look the part even if he is a bit on the short side 😆 .But that first ten mins is pretty awesome, just a shame the film goes downhill after that.

I like Karl Urban, he did a good job in Chronicles of Riddick as well. I didn't think the first one was all that bad really, yeah the acting was a bit cheesy but for the time period the movie was made the visuals were all right.

Urban was good as Eomer in the Lord Of The Rings films.

I think Judge Dredd should be cleaner shaven than this pic but as long as the face under the mask is somewhat intimidating. I think it will be a good fit.

Always thought Dredd would make a better TV series than a film, guess it will be a B flick action movie so I will be happy. 😀

Don’t think the uniform looks right, but at least Urban got Dredds smirk.

New trailer for Dredd

[media]

Well it certainly does not look anything like the comic, but I guess concessions have to be made to those unfamiliar with Dredds world.

That trailer is looking good, a lot more gritty than the first so that is a good thing.

Well... It came and went but the DVD should be out sooner rather than later.

It was in a word... AWESOME!

2000AD meets arthouse indie flick.

It utterly erased the sins of the Stallone version (in which he plays a character unknown to me, even though everyone in the movie calls him Dredd >.>)

This version was like Joe Dredd himself, no compromise, they stuck faithfully to the source.

No worn out Hollywood shtick (Stallone's Dredd kissing Hershey... remember that? wth?), it was a faithful portrayal of a day on the beat in the Big Meg.

Urban nailed the role, the direction and photography was superb, the action was brutal and visceral and the callouts to fans were subtle but almost constant.

It was critically speaking, a hit, with stellar reviews and fans loving it.

Unfortunately the wider movie going public didn't seem to care, which probably means no sequel.

In a way I'm not too upset, I'll grab this as soon as it drops in DVD and just be happy I got the Dredd movie I wanted to see.

If your first experience of Judge Dredd was the Stallone movie, you may not find this version to your taste as it's more concerned with keeping close to the spirit of the character than stuffing in as many worn out "blockbuster" tropes as possible.

But if you are a fan from back in the day... you'll drop to your knees, look to the heavens (specifically Betelgeuse, heh) and thank the almighty Tharg for such an awesome adaption.

Given the tight budget and constraints they obviously had to keep it lean and mean, no doubt a sequel would have seen an expansion of the scope, the black humour, the twisted societal satire, but as I said I'm not too upset about the lack of box office because at least it got made, it exists and in a short while we'll be able to own it forever!

Still it makes you wonder... when dross like transformers is on it's 4th flick, wth is wrong with people?

Anyway...

Superbat Prime rating: Drokking awesome!

Excellent news I never got a chance to go see it in the cinema so I am really looking forward to getting the film as I have being buying the comic for years.

Just got my hands on the Blu-ray yesterday and it bloody brilliant this is Dredd from the comic, I did have some doubts about it but Karl Urban nails it and has captured the very spirit of Dredd  in his performance.

I just saw it tonight and I agree entirely, Karl Urban did an amazing job with being Judge Dredd and I hope they continue to make more movies like this. There is a ton of material for movies in the Judge Dredd universe so hopefully they will keep pumping them out. Only flaw... I wanted to see more blood

Hopefully there will be a sequel but I did read that it did not do great business outside of the UK.
