To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Looks like their going to be a new Star Trek series or as in a spin off from the Discovery series involving the Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike along with Spock and number one as shown in the original series and the second series of Discovery.
Only seen the first series of Discovery myself which is set in the new time line and it's a bit average so not sure if we really need another trek series.
The Wagon Train rolls on... and on... and on!
It's an endless Trek. 😀

Rollin' rollin' rollin', keep them dollars rollin'.
They saturated the concept didn't they? And as Cody so subtly alluded, the latest resurrection of this franchise is going to have a lot of people thinking "cash grab"
Hey Gaius - good to see you!
I haven't really watched any of the new series or the Picard series (have heard some bad things about this one). Netflix has all the star trek series on the platform except for the two I mentioned. Would have been nice if they brought on the actor that played Pike in the newer movies I think would have been great. I like star trek a lot, just have been put off from the direction I have seen the last two star trek shows have done with discovery and picard after watching many reviews. but I think the more star trek the better.... everyone needs more scifi in their life 😉
Hi Cody! Glad to be back, all of a sudden my troubles logging in have vanished. Hope you are all doing well and looking forward to preparing a little review for you guys on a very niche simulation that's out there.
Aye welcome back Gaius.
Going to pick up the second series of Discovery and see what it like.
will do but might be a couple of months.
Finally got around to watching the second series and I really enjoyed it, thought it was a lot better than the first and the addition of captain Pike seems to give the series a boost that it lacked in the first series.
Not to say that it all roses as it's a Star Trek series you still have the odd ball characters/ techno babble and an that annoying ginger ensign. One trope that it makes too much use of is making the viewer thing that a character has been killed off only to have it revealed that it was a slight of hand although two of the minor characters do get bump off at the end.

Nice! Seems worth spending some time on then.

Ahh, the Red-shirts....

It one of those series which seems to divide the fan base, personally I'm not a huge Star Trek fan so I watch it for what it is, rather than what the fans expect.

Growing up it was that or the ridiculously campy "Lost in Space" (oh the pain). When I got older I saw it differently and didn't care much for the newer shows as the tech just reached ludicrous levels and increased my disbelief. I guess I preferred "Enterprise" which makes me a minority no doubt.
This one being set before ToS may appeal to me... as long as the writing stays the course.
I enjoyed Enterprise as well and it's a real shame it was cancelled as it was just starting to get really interesting.
And a trailer has popped up for it, will it be any good, well if it's written and produced by the same clowns that do Discovery then the omens are not good.
You have to have Paramount+ subscription I think to watch this.... that will be a mistake I think if its not on normal tv or other streaming services, I mean the idea is to make money so give it to everyone and make it available so more eyes watch it.
But watched that new trailer just yesterday and it looks pretty good at first glance, we won't really know until we can watch some episodes.
Picked this up on DVD at the weekend and I think it's the best Star Trek they have made in decades, even the couple of the duff episodes are good.
Picked up the DVD of the second series and have binged watched it over the last week and my thought, not as good the first too many comedic episodes and the weird episode this year is a musical one.
Think the writer's must have heard the Firms Star Trekking from the 80s. 😆 but all said and done still the best Star Trek in years.
Thanks Pinback for the heads up. I only have watched a few of Discovery and none of Picard (yet) nice to hear this one is actually good.
