To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Heck yeah, thanks for finding this Pinback and the trailer doesn't even look cheesy. I went to there website and they have a countdown timer: http://yamato-movie.net/

But I hope they but this on DVD/BR with some English subtitles. Looks great and they did a good job on the visuals reproducing the Yamato.

OK, I can't read Japanese. What is the concept here? Do they actually find the WWII battleship Yamato on a former seabed (ravaged Earth scenario) and convert it for space flight? If so, what a wonderfully mad concept 😀

While on Flightsim.com I also uncovered the Arcadia model by Kazunori Ito, who (amongst a load of other futuristic craft) also created a Yamato model too. Does this have any relation to the story line or maybe it's from something completly different? 😕 For those of you interested in his work here is a link http://www.flightsim.com/main/review/ito/ito2.htm

Yup that's pretty much sums it up, here what old liar has to say about it.

Thanks for that Pinback 🙂 But does the Arcadia have any connection to it? It kind of looks as if it would somehow fit the idea retrofitting of old battleships.

Iam not familiarly with the series and it was long time ago that I saw the film, but having a quick look around the net I think the Arcadia is the bad guys ship. ❓

It's from another anime, Captain Harlock ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Harlock ), but both series were created by Leiji Matsumoto, ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leiji_Matsumoto )

Thanks for that CaptainKal 😉 I knew there had to be some connection between the two. The Japanese certainly made some impressive anime over the years.

Wonder how long it will take until they release it on disc? Re-watched the trailer again and I think to get the full effect you will need to watch the subtitled version and keep Japanese dialog. Because it sounds like the actors give some good performances.

Thanks for that link Pinback, looks like my guess was right on the mark concerning the plot as I had never seen the anime. And I think you are right Darkone, keep the Japanese dialogue. It worked a treat with Das Boot. The english version of that is very inferior to the original German version. I wonder if any games devs are looking at the franchise? 🙄

There's been loads made over the years all in Japanese according to this web site http://www.starblazers.com/department.php?page_id=124 there may be a couple for the U.S. Playstation if you follow the links. http://www.starblazers.com/html.php?page_id=338 Looks like there's a few on PS1/PS2 , although by look of them they mostly look like crazy jap RPG.

Have this one saved on my Netflix for the hopes that it comes out soon. Wonder if there is any plans to internationalize the movie or to at least distribute a subtitled version internationally.

Think I read some where that it was going to get a limited theatrical release in the US.
I'am hoping for a DVD release later in the year.

Just watched those two clips and I cannot wait to see this movie. Limited theater release means no Space Battleship Yamato in NH 🙂

I use to watch the anima series that was out in the late 80's.

I hope they do bring out a subtitle version... I'll certainly buy it.

I would, too. I never watched the anime much, but I always thought the concept was kinda cool. And the trailer looks awesome.

I was on a Dubai to Singapore flight couple of weeks ago and saw that this movie was on Krisworld and it had English subtitles.

But I didn't have the strength to watch it was totally buggered on this trip. 😥

So there must be a English subtitle out there.... somewhere 🙂
