To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Still doesn't feel like Star Trek at all. This could be Avenger: Whatever or Transformers 16 for all I care.

I don't get. There is so much potential in this brand. Why waste it by turning it into just another generic action film?

As far as Star Trek films are concerned, this has been going on for 20 years now.

To be fair, movie trailers are almost invariably awful.

The 2009 movie taught me that I'm willing to put up with a little bit of the typical action-movie bullshit if it keeps the franchise alive without simultaneously turning it into a monstrosity.  That said, yeah, have to agree, this trailer is absolutely revolting.

i loved star trek for the philosophical and ethical conundrums in it. Star Wars was for my instant action fix. The difference between the 2 is becoming narrower and narrower for me with the Abrams movies. It kinda hurts to have less options in terms of themes and styles of these movies. All has to be mass produced standard hollywood garbage.

Yeah, what does it say about people that we're ONLY allowed to have Star Wars?  (That's not to say that I didn't love Star Wars before the prequels.)

Also, STOP IT WITH THE GODDAMN SUPERHERO MOVIES ALREADY I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE

Oh well, guess I'll just have to keep re-watching 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I liked the last movie for what it was worth. I thought the dude that played Khan was awesome.  It didn't always feel like Star Trek but it was entertaining. I get what you're saying, Rob. Guess we'll have to wait till they reboot once again.

My first Post but I've been a lurker for a long time =)

(guess it's my second post lol)

Well JJA is busy making Star Wars so there is a new director. I actually liked the last two ST movies, yeah I would love to have more mystery and science in the movies but as long as there is no Jar Jar Binks I will continue to watch. Out of all the Star Trek series of shows I am sure they could create movies on the themes of those shows, there is a ton of material they just need to look.

I will watch this one too and give this new director a shot, I just hope he doesn't mess it up because I do tend to favor Star Trek over Star Wars 🙂 And I as well linked the actor that played Khan in that last movie he did a great job.

Judging by the trailer I say they have based this one on Star trek 5 which is not a good idea 😆

Read that Simon Pegg has had a hand in the writing of the scrip.

I did like the first Jar Jar Abrahms Star Trek, but Khan 2.0 was god awful and this is looking to be the same. I don't have as much as a problem with the new Trek as I do with the new Star Wars, simply because JJ Trek doesn't overwrite everything that has happened in both the Trek EU, shows and movies, but who the hell thought hiring the Fast and Furious director was a good idea?! I'll try to give him a chance, but after I saw the new trailer twice while watching TFA, my hopes are not up. I love action in Trekl; hell my favorite movie is First Contact and I don't get why hardocre fans (I am one) hated Nemesis and Insurrection so much. Despite the action, they still had hints of Roddenberry's vision in and had great stories.... but I would kill for a Roddenberry style Trek film.

It looks like they are visiting a planet this time so least they are 'Exploring strange news worlds and seeking out new life' 🙂

I do like the fact that they have Idris Elba playing a villian, I think he will do a good job.

New Star Trek Trailer.

Has the crew suddenly got older and fatter or it just bad lighting on set and have they blow up the Enterprise again.

This trailer looks good, yeah they destroying the enterprise again 🙂 haha

I do like the fact they are going back to the roots of exploring and visiting/encountering new life.

God movie trailers are always so... just awful.  Not sure what conclusions to draw from this, as that is always the case.  I was mostly satisfied with the 2009 movie.  The Re-Wrath of Khan wasn't great, but it wasn't nearly as awful as Nemesis was, let's not forget that travesty.  I kind of wish they would stop making them as when they are released I spend most of my time dreading them being shit, like movies these days almost always are.

Trailer no3

So they have trashed the new Enterprise, can say that I'm sorry to see it go as I never thought it look right.

Uh...so many spoilers. So basically the story is that some aliens are going to use bots to rip the Enterprise apart and it'll crash-land in a slightly less spectacular way than in Star Trek: Generations. Then they'll escape the planet in a shiny new Akira class cruiser.

Aye they do seem following the original films and I read some where that Kirk will meet his dad in the next film which sort of ties in with StarTrek 4 the voyage home.

Probably won't have any whales in it.
