I'm a long time fan of Eve Online. I had to stop playing the game because I was too invested in it and spent too much time playing. 🙁
In Eve Online, I frequently flew logistics. For those of you who don't know what logistics ships in Eve are, logistics ships are repair ships that shoot magical beams at their allies repairing their armor or shields. Certain ships even had bonuses to repairing allied ships. Having a good network of logistics ships was integral to an effective fleet of almost any size.
So, will some form of repair ship be presence in Shallow Space? Or will all repair be by onboard modules?

The answer to that question is both actually. Ships will be able to repair themselves but will consume energy otherwise destined for shields, engines or weapons. Engineer craft which will come in Frigate and Cruiser varieties will be able to be equipped with 'Utility Turrets' which will specialise in Mining, Construction and Repair.
Much further down the line this will add a greater dynamic to the tactical instances where sometimes the primary objective will be to mop up after an enemy incursion rather than straightforward assault, defend or escort.

Hm okay that kinda supports my idea for the whole base issue.
