To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

SO, I've known this was in the works for awhile but really didn't have anything to share. Recently the developer Mindark has released some concept art and allowed a player made video showing the early stages.
Apparently with the last update they added the space content and are doing some testing. Currently It is not open to normal players. I would guess, based on Mindarks past, that the space expansion won't be completed and ready for release until 2012. From the looks of the video it needs at least another 6 months of work, if not more.

The audio is kind of hard to listen to. The voice is a Mindark employee that explaining things over ingame voice chat.
Here is the concept they released http://www.entropiauniverse.com/media/images/
Other Information about the game is available here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropia_Universe .
Question?? Comments?? I think it looks pretty good...but I'm not too sure...sounds like it will be pretty expensive to play. In the video I think the Mindark employee says that one of the missiles on the mothership will cost 5000ped to use. which would be 500usd, I hope that he was just trying to make a joke.
edit:Here is another clip I found on youtube, Shows a medium space fighter in the calypso atmosphere. Looks like a teaser clip to me
Sorry for the double post but, I think this deserves a bump.
This could be a once in a lifetime chance if you have plenty of cash to spend on an MMO. (motherships will be for sale in the auction for a limited time)

Entropia Space is set to be released June 21st.
The competition for motherships and medium fighters is stating today. (see link above for details)

I'm pretty excited about this. Apparently my prediction of 6months wasn't very accurate 😀 But, it will probably have a beta feel for at least 6 months 😎
I've played Entropia for quite a a few years. I'm still just a low end to average skilled. I never wanted to spend too much playing, so I never got any awesome stuff.
It should be interesting to see if the gameplay is fun or not. Sounds like it will be a lot of pvp. If there is no joystick support I'm going to be pissed ❗
This looks kinda cool.
At one point I was looking forward to this, but based on how everything else is in the game and how space sims have been going, I'm not holding my breath.
I am not one for playing online game but that free to play mode seems a bit of a con.
A bit of a con. is a bit of an understatement.
The whole project entropia is a ripoff where people loose money by the hundreds.
Game is designed as a casino, they lure you with eyecandy and free to play is almost nothing.
For every guy that strucks big in this game one hundred more loose everything they put in the game.Basically everything costs money, ammo, weapons, armor etc.The more advanced the item the more it costs. Then everything has a decay rate. Not to mention that every time you deposit money in the game mindark keeps 5 or 10%.
I'd take a monthly fee any day over this, they can keep their eyecandy.
Besides there are better sandboxes out there.
Let mindark rest in pieces.
I tried this out for a bit a few months back to see what the hype was about and you can make money off this game if you are willing to grind your ass off to get the small things people need to buy to craft/construct things. But like everything else the cool stuff costs real money unless you have a huge amount of time on your hands. For a part-time MMO gamer I would have to invest more than the avg $15 a month to get anything out of Entropia so with that I don't play it. I don't mind paying monthly fees to be on the same slate as the next person.
I find it hilarious that the only thing you can do in the free game is gather sweat. 😆
Now that is taking the mickey “BIG TIMEâ€Â.
And to grind any crafting you have to spend $$$$$$ on resources to get to a level where you make stuff that can be sold. If you choose to go mining for those resources, again you spend $$$$$$ leveling up mining buying probes/bombs etc. Plus you need to grind up combat and spend $$$$ on that in order to go mining because of the mobs. Ether that or hire an escort, again $$$$$.
I have to give it to Entropia Universe's business model because they are making money and good for them. If people are willing to pay for every little aspect of the game then all the power to you. I have read many articles and posts on this where people don't pay to play that game any more because they have a system setup where they actually get paid to play the game. But it did cost them some money to get to that point and I don't think I would ever have the free time needed to accomplish something like that. I think if Entropia Universe altered there payment methods their population would grow nicely, because the game world that I played in seemed nice and the gameplay was responsive. I always think that a player should not 'have to' pay to play a game that they say is free. You should be able to attain any item in the game that you can pay for eventually. Like in those ships in the pics, if you play long enough you should be able to get one with hard work. Having durability stages to weapons and gear is only good when you don't have to pay actual money to fix them or you make the right friends in the game to do it for you.
False. Only fees incurred during deposits and widthraws are bank-fees.
This is not a kiddy MMO. You're playing with real money, with the only limitations being your own restraint and intelligence. Just like any competitive economy, you're going to hear way more from the failures than the successful.
I get such a kick from seeing so many people that have tried this for 2 days and already have a full evaluation ready. Brilliant.

That is such bull edeanp, your own restraint and intelligence will fail you when you hit mindarks greed.
Besides having 2 posts, and foaming at the mouth over your version of truth i see you are also a mentalist, guessing how much time people spend playing.
Take 5 bro
Some more player made videos of space are starting to popup on youtube. Some showing some PVP loot tests...others show the inside of the space stations and motherships.
The first round of motherships sold for about $9000usd each. To add insult to injury you can't even fly it after you purchase it. The mother ships require several components before they even function. The good news is that prices for the components seem to be coming down.
I'm guessing startup costs for a normal player in space would be around 400ped or $40usd (Sleipnir MK1 with space thruster and a mounted weapon, and some left maybe for fuel) Really I wouldn't recommend it tho, the weapon efficiency for new players with little or no weapons skills will probably be really awful.
I haven't seen any AI npc's or mobs in the videos uploaded. There is a pirate base which might have some gameplay soon.
IMO If there is a list for worst game expansion this should be right near the top (plus no joystick support according to one you-tuber)
