To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

SWTOR goes F2P on 15 Nov

Took about a year for it to happen, but BioWare and EA's expensive MMO is now going F2P. I will at least give this another try now to play the story arcs of light and dark side. Plus over that years time there has been a nice amount of patches so the game should be fairly solid (I hope). It's a shame all of these games have to go from P2P to F2P so quickly, I just think people don't have the patience to wait for fixes or certain content before they jump ship to the next game. And I think game companies make leveling and accomplishments come to easy in a game, hence not making it challenging enough so players get satisfied with a game to quickly. Or the majority of the populous has A.D.D and just cannot play games like they could anymore.... hehe that might be me <img src=' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

haven't played it in the past 2 months, cancelled my subscription 2 days ago. will have a look at it tomorrow. =)

I haven't finished the story line of a single class, although I have 6 lvl 50 characters.

When I played in the beta, I didn't like the PvP much. The storylines were decent and that's what I would probably play if I loaded this game back up again. But I will probably wait a month after F2P starts to get back in so I can have a nicer experience, hate lag and wait times and any possible bugs that crop up with lots of players logging in. I do see some life left in SWTOR and see it actually growing like STO did when it went F2P. I think with the right direction SWTOR could be a really good game for a long time. Just wondering if we will see addon content to the quality of the released game with voice acting, gfx and soundtrack etc... as the game is F2P.

6lvl 50 characters True, you must have spent some time with the game. Surprised you never finished out storyline with your characters, you level mainly through PvP?

I didn't play PVP at all. Well, maybe 5-6 Matches in one year. I played most characters until their first or second chapter then went to operations with my clanmates. I loved the story part of the game but the fascinating thing for me in RPG's are different skill builds and trying out other classes.

I am the typical 'twinker', not so much into end game (because I hate the item spiral) and not into PVP. Just developing new characters, looking if they work and when they are done, starting a new one.

Some things you should know before you give it a try:

Overall, the story elements are solid. Gameplay mechanics-wise, I thought Star Wars Galaxies was bad, but this is just a whole new level of bad. Also, the space combat feels like it's primarily aimed at kids and their grandmas. Seems like "everyone being able to pick-up and immediately play" was the main goal with the game, just like with every other EA game of late. As a result, the experience is far from rewarding (leveling up is a fake way of making you feel "rewarded" or like you've accomplished something and doesn't work without challenging gameplay mechanics to back it up).

Tried, it's so WoW-like.

Nothing to do, only theme park and a lot of "skeletons to kill" missions. Space is more disappointing.

Such a budget and nobody inventive. There is nice story and a lot of instances for 2-4 players but that is all.

No worth paying for and I am not surprised it is free now.
