So thrown the rattle out of the pram and crying into your milk as Frontier Developments abandon plans for an offline single player game I know I am. For years people have complained about developers just remaking Elite with some fancy graphics and the odd feature added, so it some what ironic that Frontier finally get off the fence and do a new Elite game, they basically just remake Elite with fancy graphics.

So at the moment E:D is just a free roaming space trading combat game but according to God (Breben)Boy's vision at some point in time it will have seamless planet landing and wandering about on ships.station and planets, in less they change their minds.

So whats allows you do that right now, lets start with the free games.

FFE3D Andy mod can be found in the download section here and check the thread here http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/topic/4731-enhanced-planet-textures-for-ffed3daj-texture-caching/

Poineer http://pioneerspacesim.net/#&panel1-1 not sure which version they are upto now but you always check here http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/forum/23-pioneer/

Part 2 show us the money the following games have some of the promised features of E:D although Rodina is probably the closest to what E:D may become.

Evochron Mercenary http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/

Rodina https://elliptic-games.com/

The Precursors the greatest game you have never played but it is totally unfinished and has lots of bugs can be bought on GamerGate and check the forum about getting it to run http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/forum/29-the-precursors/

Parkan 2

And one for the future.

Nova Voyager http://www.novavoyager.com/

And one from the past.

Sundog

And God Boy should always remember that he may have a vision for Elite Dangerous but Sundog got their first, 30 years ago and 6 months before Elite was released.

You Forgot PARAGON which has everything that elite dangerous promised except multiplier and the ability to walk outside your spaceship.

Which I can't get because I spent all my money on elite dangerous and now my only way get money is by cleaning my parents' windows which is somewhat hard when you live on the second floor of a building.

Your right I did and theirs probably a few other as well, but it could be argued that Paragon is just Pioneer with different graphics and a bit more gameplay.

It also has something like a frame shift drive and does not have that time-skip thing all the other frontier inspired games have.

Also a few more.

First up, the X games. Yes I know X Rebirth has had a bit of a tough time, but its getting better bit by bit. X2 is still my favourite of the series though.

I War 2 Edge Of Chaos

Tachyon

Freelancer

Privateer Gemini Gold (available in the download area)

Privateer 2

And how could you forget about Oolite Pinback!?!

Your right their is a planet OXP for Oolite and Freelancer and the Privateer games have limited planet interaction.

Bit ironic about X2 which had the one of the best idea Egosoft ever had of allowing you to fly into the station was dropped from X3 onwards, only for it to be picked up by Frontier about a decade later for use in E:D.

is paragon really having "a bit more gameplay" than pioneer or was that a publicity stunt? 🙂

So true about X2. X2 had unique ship and stations designs (putting X3 ones to shame from a design perspective), hidden stuff in stations. Heck asteroids had holes you could hide in. Oh ! and out of the box cockpits. A thing the modding community had to dig up and remade for each version of the game.

Well that was my first X and one of the first game I modded so extensively, so I may see that through rose-tinted glasses

(ps: X:R is beyond saving because the scripting and modding community died with it, Egosoft killed it by replacing an impractical but efficient language by some lovecraftian horror no coder in his right mind would touch with a ten foot pole)

i feel the vibe of this thread. Having now spent about 3 or 4 hours in E:D I understand the game to some degree. The online only doesn't bother me, but man ALIVE. This game really is just elite isn't it. 30 years and they rerelease the same damn game with better graphics. From browsing the forum it appears all the npcs in the game just randomly spawn in to be killed. There doesn't even appear to be any real simulation in the game, which for my money, makes it less impressive than pretty much every other spacesim i've played in the last 15 years or so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardwar_%28video_game%29

Hardwar is probably my favorite space sim game, and it has planetside stuff!  (but not space btw).  hard to find but it feels unique and has character. I am tempted to heal the failure of Elite by reinstalling it, or perhaps I will play some x3 instead. I'd agree that x3 has lots of issues but the universe is sort of simulated and it does feel alive and interesting. Eilte is really just empty proceedural space.

So my question is; Which games (as there are a lot of elite likes) make their universe seem to actually be alive?

by alive i mean stuff is simulated not just busy with aimless ships.

I really don't know how to answer the first part of this without been down right rude and offensive .... so no comment from me.

Getting fed up with complaints on Frontiers Forum and really don't want to see it in this forum.

Let's see see how the game has developed in the next 12 months from release on 16th. Before we pass judgement on the game.

As for for spacesim where the universe that is alive ... I think that X3 or XR will be your best bet (if you call it a universe ... it pretty small compare to ED)

Aye, I agree - but the naysayers will/have spread to other forums. They need an audience, you see!

The thread was meant to point out that their are a number of single player/offline games which are available now and have the same features, which E:D may have at some unspecified point of time in the future.

Every one is entitled to their opinions after all I have been slagging Egosoft off for years on this forum but I have given them a break as I do like X-Rebirth.

i apologise if i have offended. I didn't realise this was a sensitive issue.  I haven't been on the frontier forums much. I was mostly riffing of Pinbacks comment " Elite with some fancy graphics and the odd feature added, so it some what ironic that Frontier finally get off the fence and do a new Elite game, they basically just remake Elite with fancy graphics."

Given that no one in the thread had reacted badly to that I figured i would be ok expressing my opinions on the game.

No need to apologise mate. I need to apologise for lashing out like that. You have every right to voice your opinion on the game. The reason I didn't want to make comment on your first part because the Frontier forum have been saturated with very unconstructive criticism on both side of the fence. And exactly what Cody said ...

Taking your advise Cody ...From now on I'm going to stop reading the ED forums altogether and only look for the Change Logs and Newsletter post.

Totally agree Pinback. I;m  glad we have such fantastic forum that D1 has provide where we can express our passion. I just got remember to respect each other (sorry de5me7) when we expressing our passion of sci-fi game.

I had X-Rebirth on pre-order for a box set. But it seemed that fate kill my interest in the game when store said that Egosoft will only provide a digital copy via Steam.
